Compost Direct - no communications
I purchased 850L compost from this company last Friday. I had an email straight away from Paypal confirming my payment, but had no confirmation email from Compost Direct which I found a bit strange. On Monday, I still hadn't had a confirmation email so tried to contact them via phone - no-one answered. I came across the two alarming Trust Pilot reviews as I was trying to work out what was going on and immediately asked to cancel my Paypal payment and started an enquiry to the company via Paypal. Then today (Wednesday), the compost turned up to my surprise. There was nothing in the van except my compost and the driver had no paperwork. He did ask my name. So at least I have my compost and I've contacted Paypal to let them know. But it is all very odd. I have used them for about 3 years without any problems at all.
BEWARE - Not sure this company is still in business
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I ordered grit and compost, and sure enough, received an email from Compost Direct saying it had been despatched within a week. However, I contacted the sub-contracted delivery company (Palletways) several days later and they had received nothing at all from Compost Direct.
When I tried to contact Compost Direct I received no response to my email and their telephone number had been disconnected. Fortunately, I paid via Paypal and they tried to pursue this for me. The fact that Paypal then refunded my credit card within two days of taking this up suggests to me that there is something seriously awry with this company.

I placed an order for 2 ton bags of compost totaling £280, they have taken the money iv had no confirmation email, it is impossible to contact them they just ignore you and do not send the product. absolute shambles. Be warned !!!!!!!!

After waiting weeks to received my order I finally emailed compost direct to cancel my order. I eventually received a reply to say I would be refunded. The next day (no refund) I received an email to say it had been dispatched. I again emailed to say that I did not want the product. At the current time I have no reply, no refund, and no sign of the product. I will never use these people again.
Impossible to contact
The lawn dressing was fine when it finally arrived but the company was impossible to contact. I received an email delivery that my order was despatched 'only' six days after my account had been debited. After a further week and no sign of my order, I emailed Compost Direct and then used their online form. There was no reply and no telephone number. The order eventually turned up but I am still waiting for a response from the company. Easy contact with a company is a must so I won't be using Compost Direct again.
Zero customer service
I've ordered from Compost Direct previously, a couple of years ago without any problem.
This time however, I've not received any confirmation or delivery details at all.
I've sent two emails and two message through the website, but nothing. My account was debited straight away though.

The worst company & product!
Delivery was a nightmare and the customer service is that they do not reply at all despite several emails. I could call but there is only a premium rate number available and there is no way I'm giving them anymore of my hard earned money!
The worst thing of all though was the quality of the product. Absolutely littered with plastic and big bits too. There is no quality control or attempt to get it out. Some bits were so large you can see them a mile off! Disgraceful! I would give minus stars if I could, it's appalling they are still in business. Of course - no facility to leave a review on their website! Very poor!

I will never buy from Compost Direct again.
I bought a bag of border gold. I am now having to sieve it as small lumps of clay make up approximately 25-30%. It is nothing like the soil shown in the photo on their website. So not only did I get less than what I paid for, I am now having to waste my time making it usable.
They haven’t replied to my email and as they don’t publish a telephone number, there is no way to follow up with them for a refund.
Update: I contacted them by email (as suggested below) and have yet to hear back. This was my second email.

Small plastic pieces throughout the Black Gold Compost
I have ordered Black Gold compost from this company a number of times- probably had 10 cube bags. The first couple of deliveries were ok but unfortunately there was a very high content of small plastic pieces in the most recent 4 bags. My garden is littered with coloured plastic. You cant see it when you are putting the compost down but after a few weeks and some rain it becomes very visible. Very disappointed and frustrated..........

Quick delivery. Had an issue as the courier spilt the bag even though it was on a hard standing albeit with a surface layer of grass. Reported to the company and had a partial refund with no quibble.

Order placed 14 April...still no delivery and here we are in the beginning of June.
Not a company to be recommended. Beware.
Last year I placed an order with this company, and was very happy with the product. As a result, I decided to place another order in April. I ordered 3 of the 1400 litre sacks Premium Enriched Soil, at a cost of £269.97. On top of this was added a £94.50 delivery charge. Total bill, paid in advance, £364.47. Fair enough, and so far, so good.
The website indicates delivery within a matter of days from placement of the order. Now, more than 5 weeks later, I still waiting. I have emailed them twice, and tried phoning on numerous occasions, all to no avail. Calls are put on hold, and I have waited up to 40 minutes without reply. Interestingly, the company also operates as Beaver Composts, as the answering message is exactly the same.
I would advise potential customers not to deal with his company, as you could end up losing significant sums of money, with no apparent recourse.

I just wish that i had looked at reviews before ordering, i placed an order on 4th april, it is now the 22nd, i have had an update saying they are having trouble with delivery drivers.
So as we will not be here in the UK in the next couple of weeks i have sent an email requesting they refund my money and cancel the order, i will update here when they respond, because they will NOT answer the phones

Why oh why did I not read these reviews before ordering my compost! Order number 2940 ordered on 26 March, paid £200. Can’t get through to customer services, no reply to emails and still no delivery. Easter been and gone and all our plans for garden ruined! Just want my money back now, but can’t speak to anyone to get this organised. Nightmare!
