Very professional service and delivered by good natured, friendly people which is an increasingly rare combination in today’s world. They go way beyond the basics in ensuring you are fully supported and informed.

Competex are highly efficient and extremely helpful - they are quick to answer questions and explain situations, and they do this with a friendly attitude. Highly recommended.

I have been a customer of Competex since 2014 (i.e. for more than 10 years) to set up and then work through a limited company. Throughout this time they have been friendly, approachable and responsive when I've called them. Their attention to detail and accuracy have been very good - I have never experienced a problem in this regard. The Payroll service has been brilliant, with Michelle always going the extra mile for her customers. The underlying systems (document portal, payroll, accounting) are also robust, easy to use and reliable. The only area where I have been disappointed is Customer Account Management and client engagement and relationship building. Many times I felt I was dealing with an insular team of accountants who did not proactively reach out to their customers and build relationships. I was the one to make the extra efforts and things improved thereafter. Overall I feel Competex deserves a 5 star rating and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

They have consistently delivered high quality advice and guidance which has helped to ensure that both my business and personal accountancy and tax matters have been managed in an orderly and timely manner. Most recently (Jun 25) they have helped me complete my personal tax returning a timely manner.

Competex have given me fantastic, professional and friendly service for my small consulting company for many years. There is nothing they do not know about operating small businesses like this and the associated personal tax implications.

I recommend the Competex accountancy & payroll service. When I set up as a consultant in international development in 2003 I came across Competex through my career advisory service. My advisor said she had never heard anyone complain about the service of Competex, the only problem was that they were a bit expensive. As I close my company down after 22 years with Competex I have never regretted my choice to employ their services. It is a huge help not to have to worry about the complex and ever-changing world of company tax and reporting. Competex has done that for me and has been very patient in sorting out the problems I cause through errors in using Free Agent. The service is well worth what Competex costs me. The Free Agent and BrightPay software took a bit of getting used to but I ended up finding them very helpful. I do not remember any error caused by Competex and I continue to be a very satisfied customer.

Competex supported our business over many years, and through 2024 and 2025 gave excellent support through unusual and challenging circumstances - including pragmatic solutions which resolved problems relating to companies house requirements that were out of our control. Melody Murray and Sharon Wright in the accounts team were extremely helpful.

Level of support and attention

Self assessment terrifies me - those brown envelopes terrify me, so I turned to Competex. Sharon has helped me with my return for several years now, she holds my hand, she is persistent, always readily contactable and gets stuff done and all at a very reasonable price.

Excellent service providers. Attentive, efficient, proactive and of course detail. Have work with the team on self assessments, company set up, accounts management and company closure. Definitely recommended.

Preparation of annual accounts, HMRC and Companies House info. was completed very promptly after year end, accurately and with minimum fuss.

Their processes and systems made my life very simple and gave me complete confidence that the accountancy side of my business was well managed.

They resolve the dull stuff that you have to do as a business owner and, in a more unstable world of changing tax rates; increased demands on administrative demands on business; and digitalisation of filing rules, they enable me to get on with running my company and enjoying my leisure time.
