DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!! I'm a little frustrated and confused at guys moving company. My wife and I used them to move from Illinois to Tennessee. There were many items broken by them during the move. The person you speak with makes this move sound really great, and then you deal with the rest of their company from shipping to drivers to delivery. There was also added fees anfter speaking with the scheduling department. The guy I spoke with stated that because it was a holiday weekend, they needed to charge me for storafe, as they needed to truck. I can say, with uttermost certainty, that truck was never unloaded. So, i paid about3k more for nothing, all in the name of makingmoney. Upon the initial packing of the truck, there were 5 people that showed up to pack our belongings, and when it was delivered, 2 people showed up, and one was a little on the heavy side and after about 25 minutes are had to stop, because he was winded. Then to add insult to injury, items had been broken on the move. Beware when they say you get .64 cents per pound. What they really mean is if they break your antique lamps, and the lamps weight is 2 pounds, guess what they will pay you? $1.28. Not based in the weight of the truck, no no no, the weight of each item they break. Be very cautious and overestimate your item weight, because they will not pay you anything. Please use a reputable moving company, not this shame, shameful, disgrace!! Just another passed customer from this company.
After being held hostage for 5 weeks, our moving experience with this company is finally over. No matter what line of bull they try to sell you, this is a company that subbed out our long-distance move to another van line, who then subbed out to 3 different smaller contractors. We were given a delivery window of 3-7 days after they picked up our belongings. We took a week off work and drove down to meet our delivery but it did not arrive as promised. Another window was given. Then another. And another. This went on for 4 weeks, during which one of us needed to be physically present in the new, minimally furnished house to take delivery. There were flights and train rides back and forth to take care of work and obligations back home. Finally at the end of week 4 half our belongings were delivered. And when I say "half" I mean a bedframe with no mattress, pool table legs but no top, other table bases with no tops, a bookcase without shelves. Most every stick of furniture that was delivered that first run had damage of some sort. Boxes clearly marked FRAGILE were squashed. We then had to wait another full week for the remainder to be delivered. They did offer to credit us $50 per day outside the original window, but we have not rec'd credit for the last 7 days where we had already had to pay in full before they would unload what only turned out to be a partial delivery. Communication with this company once they have your stuff and/or money is a nightmare. In all that time no agent would or could tell us where our belongings were, that's if they ever even returned calls. I have seen other reviews where the company comes back and says "according to your contract..." so be sure no matter who you use or how ridiculously long the contract is, read it all with an eye to spot where they can screw you over. If we had a time machine we would definitely go back and avoid Colonial at all costs.
The move itself was excellent on both ends of the trip. Communication regarding the days of the move and the delivery days was minimal. I wish I had been told that you would be holding my furniture and boxes for a week and a half! I had assumed it would have been done sooner.
Throughout the process of getting ready for our move, we were informed of what we needed to do and what they would be responsible for doing as well. They were always responsive to our questions and our concerns about the process. The movers that loaded our belongings were very efficient and very nice. The mover who unloaded our belongings at its destination was also very efficient and courteous and went over and above what we would have expected. Also everything arrived in great condition!
From start to finish, the experience was hassle-free and handled with the utmost professionalism. The moving team managed the pickup and delivery flawlessly and Louie was a pleasure to work with. His team was tireless and always seemed to have a fun time while handling numerous heavy pieces of furniture. I would highly recommend Colonial Van Lines for your next move.
Colonial Van Lines was very communicative during my extensive interstate move. The estimate was accurate. The driver and crew were accessible and highly skilled and worked tirelessly for my move. They moved belongings from a 5 bedroom house with no damage. I am highly pleased with the service I received.
The entire process was flawless. Communication from packers and delivery men and also project manager very efficient and frequent. Everything was transported without any loss or damage. I would gladly use Colonial Van Lines again without question for any moving needs.
From the beginning of my moving experience there was a lot of communication. The movers were extremely quick yet very careful with all of my belongings. Upon arrival they placed my items in the designated area in a very orderly fashion. I felt they truly cared about pleasing the customer.
The only reason I’m even giving 2 stars is because of Amanda. My experience went downhill as soon as my items were picked up for my move from AZ to IL. I informed my account manager, Bernadette, that I would be at the destination on a certain day. She still proceeded to schedule the delivery for a time I wasn’t available. Luckily, my elderly father was home to sign for my things. However, he wasn’t aware of what was supposed to be in the delivery. When I was finally able to get there, I had 7 boxes belonging to a different person and was missing 7 of mine. I attempted to reach out to both Colonial Van Lines and the dispatch company they use and got nowhere. Bernadette stopped answering my calls and never called me back. The dispatch even lied and claimed the issue was resolved. I ended up locating the owner of the boxes on my own and returning them. I started a claim and was told I’d get $100 for returning the boxes. That was back in March. It is now July and I still have no boxes. I followed up and was told by someone I needed to fill out a form waiving liability. Thankfully my claims rep, Amanda, stepped in and made things right. I got the $100 when she said I would. I’m still without my missing boxes, but she is helping with that. She has been the only responsive person I’ve encountered during this entire process. She deserves 5 stars alone. But this company overall is terrible.
Move from Richmond Virginia to Vincennes Indiana was handled professionally and timely. The three gentlemen who loaded me and packed my materials did so your professionalism. Two gentlemen who unloaded me did so professionally. No items for damage for lost. The driver when called was within the time window when he said he would be to deliver my belongings. I recommend Colony for anyone who is moving
This was my first long-distance move and overall I was very happy. The customer service was very good and our movers were excellent and such hard workers.
Everyone I worked with communicated great over the phone and by text through the whole process, and the movers themselves were very careful and thorough with their packing!
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Both pickup and delivery dates were a DAY late from my scheduled times. Also, if I had not followed up I would have never been contacted by the company that there had been a change. Both times I was assured my things were to be delivered as scheduled, and was not informed of the change until I called to ask for a status update.
I feel the communication was misleading. I specifically asked if they subcontracted and was told they do not …. My goods were picked up by a contracted third party. We specifically did not want a company that subcontracts! I was told by the person assisting me that she would assist me throughout the whole process- I was juggled to 3 other people. I was told several times that the movers take two days to load… it took them 4 hours. The only highlight was a gal named Gabby! She was very communicative and helpful.
Colonial was easy to work with and provided a lot of information to prepare for our move. Our driver, Amir, was easy to work with and stayed in communication with us. They worked hard crew worked hard and had everything packed when promised. Our furniture was delivered when promised. It was a good move.
Pickup and Delivery service was careful, staff communicated with us well.
Complete nightmare. Was charged more than double the quoted price for my trip, for belongings that barely filled a 10x14 storage unit for my trip.
Absolutely avoid this company at all costs. I was quoted 5k, cost me 12k. Wo
