The customer service was very helpful and called to keep me up on everything. My cars got here quickly and there was a little wait for the furniture but it did come in and everything was good. Also I would tell people about the good service I got. Thank you.
We were moved by Colonial from Florida to Georgia for an almost 600 mile move. The crew picked up when they said, loaded us up, assisted with all our questions, and enerally were top notch. Everything I asked, they provided. Support was on the phone before, during and after the move. Couldn't ask for anything more.
The movers were very professional and thorough. I felt very confident that my items would get to the destination.
I had every good experience from start to finish. It was really good. I'd use them again if I do another cross country move.
The communication was excellent throughout the process. I knew what to expect and when things would happen. Everyone I interacted with was courteous, knowledgeable and professional. The pricing was transparent and fair.
The crew took good care of my property and disassembled and reassembled the necessary furniture items. They were respectful and answered my questions in a timely manner.
I would use Colonial again for any moving needs.
Excellent experience from start to finish! We used Colonial Van Lines for a move from Florida to Maryland and were extremely pleased. They took great care with our belongings and kept us well informed throughout the entire process. They called ahead to review the items, provided pickup and delivery windows the day before, and called about 30 minutes before arrival. They followed through on everything they promised and were always easy to reach with questions. Professional, careful, and reliable—I would definitely recommend them!
Both the pick up and delivery was great. My things were very carefully packed with a lot of care. The delivery went well with nothing lost or broken. I highly recommend Colonial if you want your moving done professionally.
the BEST moving service. from day 1, I felt like I was truly being taken care of. All the stress and worry went away. Every step of the way the representatives were attentive. The movers stayed with my belongings every step of the way and kept me regularly updated on delivery date. They cared for my belongings with care and everything arrived in one piece.
The drivers and movers were very professional and very careful with my furniture
colonial van lines demanded that I put a 4065 deposit down in order to setup a move that I am doing from NY state to NC. I had a scheduled audit with them on 8/26/26. The audit happens to occur on a day that is too late to make a cancellation. During the audit call I said that I had additional boxes and all of sudden I was demanded to pay an additional 1281.00. I paid the amount even though I wasnt happy with the last minute change. After reviewing the events with my wife we decided to terminate the moving agreement. I did this on 8/27/26. I was immediatly told by Jamie Sokova that it would be impossible to refund back either of my 4065 or 1281 deposits that were made as it was within the 5 days and could not be honored. I feel that colonial van lines is using deceptive business practices. I am attempting to resolve this matter with my credit card company as of yesterday.
Colonial made our move smooth and easy!
From getting a quote to unloading into our new home, the whole process was top-notch. Highly recommend.
Customer follow up is outstanding and the driver and his team did a phenomenal job on both ends of the move. I would definitely recommend Colonial Vanlines.
Excellent preset items to be moved excellent customer care to review selected items type weight and glass issues 5 star mover in 26 ft box truck GABRIELLE. Excellent packing care on pickup and excellent care in delivery . A 5 star overall in moving GEORGIA 30809 to North Carolina 28792 179 miles
Physical movers were great on both ends, however delivery was 2 days late, per the 12 day window that we were given. Communication about the whereabouts of our possessions and ETA from customer service was slow and non informative when they did respond.
Do not hire Colonial Van Lines. Our move experience was completely disappointing, unprofessional and distressful. Nothing occurred as was promised. Our job was contracted out to a third party that delivered at their convenience not ours. Our items arrived crushed, broken and caked with dirt and debris. This is not a company that cares for its clients and only cares about taking your money. Absolutely shameful and disrespectful and lacking at every point. The contract leaves the client with little recourse or leverage and at the mercy of colonial and its contracted providers. I called a lawyer, the police and the federal consumer protection agency only to learn that in interstate moving there is nothing that protects the customer and you are completely at the mercy of the moving company. BEWARE!!!
They let me what was happening, they called if their a delay, very nice people, Would use them again
I would strongly caution anyone considering hiring this moving company, especially if you are arranging a move for an elderly family member.
My grandmother hired this company for her move, and the entire experience has been incredibly stressful and unacceptable. Her original delivery window was August 19–24, and her belongings were not delivered until August 25. Even on the day of delivery, they were supposed to arrive around noon and showed up hours later.
Only two movers arrived to unload her belongings. I was personally there when one of the movers told us that they may have lost approximately 20 boxes and then told my elderly grandmother that SHE needed to count her boxes to make sure everything was there. He also told us that if we found boxes belonging to someone else, we should let them know. Hearing that from the people responsible for transporting an entire household was extremely concerning.
It got worse. At one point, they apparently could not locate my grandmother’s $3,000 massage chair and indicated that it was missing. After my mother questioned them about it, they went back out to the truck and suddenly came back saying they had found it. This is a very large massage chair, not a small box that could easily be overlooked, so the fact that they initially could not locate it was alarming.
Multiple boxes arrived crushed or damaged, and items were broken. The movers did not properly unpack her belongings, did not bring her mattress upstairs, and did not properly assemble/set up her furniture. They essentially left boxes and belongings throughout the house and left. My mother was forced to move boxes herself just to create a safe pathway through the home for my grandmother.
My grandmother’s bed was left with the mattress on the floor because the movers could not locate the necessary pieces/legs to properly set it up. My grandmother then could not physically get herself up from the bed, and my mother had to physically help her up and find a temporary solution by adding a thick mattress topper so she could safely get in and out of bed.
This was not simply an inconvenience. This involved an elderly woman being left in a home filled with boxes, without her furniture properly set up, and without a safe, functional bed, while her family had to try to finish the work we hired professional movers to perform.
Between the delayed delivery, arriving hours later than expected on delivery day, damaged boxes, broken belongings, the possibility of numerous missing boxes, temporarily being unable to locate a $3,000 piece of furniture, inadequate staffing, failure to move items where they belonged, failure to properly assemble furniture, and leaving the home in this condition, this has been an extremely upsetting experience for our entire family.
We are still going through the inventory to determine exactly what is missing and damaged, so unfortunately we may not even know the full extent of the problems yet.
I would not recommend this company, and I strongly encourage anyone considering them to carefully research the company, read the contract in its entirety, document every item being moved, and understand exactly who will actually be transporting and delivering your belongings before signing anything. If I could give zero I would. This is an update. Find my other previous review below about the delay and rude customer service.
Our move has not yet been completed, so this review reflects our experience with Colonial Van Lines through the estimating, QA, and pre move process. I will update it after pickup and delivery.
Our experience started positively with Renee, who initially made us feel like we would be in good hands. Unfortunately, our experience deteriorated significantly as we got closer to the move.
We told Colonial multiple times that we were still packing and determining our final box count, and we continued updating them as we figured things out. Despite trying to be transparent, our estimate has now changed three times.
The biggest shock was adding 10 boxes, bringing us to approximately 90 total, and seeing our estimate increase by roughly $1,000. Our boxes are a mixture of sizes, and we are doing approximately 95% of the packing ourselves. Our current estimate is nearly $7,500.
Our interactions with QA were equally frustrating. My mother felt pressured by Paul to sign the revised estimate because he said he was leaving at 18:00, and we were told the move could be canceled if it was not signed. Earlier that day, Renee had specifically told my mother not to answer Paul’s call until we knew what items remained. When my mother later told Renee that she felt pressured by Paul, Renee responded, “Well, I told you not to answer his call.” I found that response incredibly dismissive. A customer should not be blamed for answering a call from the moving company she hired.
I also had an unpleasant interaction with Paul after I used profanity while speaking to my mother about consolidating our boxes. I was not swearing at Paul or insulting him, but he threatened to end the call because he “doesn’t like cursing.” I can acknowledge that my language was colorful, but it was not directed at him.
Our latest conversation with Renee ended badly as well. I was trying to explain why we were unhappy and felt repeatedly talked over. I eventually lost my temper and raised my voice so I could finish what I was saying. I regret yelling and take responsibility for that. Renee then hung up on me. I can acknowledge that I should not have yelled while still believing customers should be allowed to explain why they are frustrated and feel heard.
I also strongly recommend reading Colonial’s entire contract. Our paperwork calls our approximately $7,500 estimate a “Binding Estimate for Services,” while containing additional language about circumstances in which charges can change. It also states that agents or independent subcontractors may be used and that belongings may be temporarily stored, transferred between vehicles, or consolidated with other shipments.
I am not claiming that I handled every interaction perfectly. I didn’t. But that does not erase the issues that caused our frustration.
Before our belongings have even been picked up, we have dealt with three different estimates, an approximately $1,000 increase after adding 10 boxes, pressure to sign, confusing pricing language, and extremely frustrating communication.
For the amount of money we are paying, I expected considerably better communication and transparency.
I will update this review after our move is completed.
