Took out learner driver insurance for…
Took out learner driver insurance for my son paid the 12month premium instead of monthly. My son passed his test within 7months of taking out this policy so had 5month remaining. Collingwood representatives said that 90% of my premium was used 7/12 🤦 and that the remaining 10% wasn’t enough to cover the cancellation fee so I received a bill which they kindly automatically charged my card with…..
Absolute scam of a company!!!!
We also had problems with login on my son’s portal and when we tried to contact them to rectify they kept on assuring me that I was logging in wrong or using the wrong device or inputting the wrong information, none of there instructions resolved the issue.
All we wanted was the insurance certificate as my son was taking the test in his own car, they refused to email it and said I needed to pay an admin fee to receive.
bearing in mind this was the morning of my son’s test which added to the stress he was already in.
I wouldn’t recommend this company ever to anyone, please look elsewhere, save yourself the headache.

Total rip off insurer
Total rip off insurer, I took out a 12 month learner policy for my son, paid in full. The insurer wrote to me last week highlighting the policy needs to be cancelled when the learner passes their test. As my son had passed on the Friday before, I cancelled the policy, I then received an email for a £40 cancellation fee! Despite the fact I had paid in full and only had 2 months left of the policy, IF I had let the policy expire without renewing I would have had no cancellation fee and my son had already taken out full insurance out elsewhere on his car so would not or could not have claimed on the policy as he was no longer a learner. When Collingwood email to ask you to cancel 'if you have passed' they make no mention of the cancellation fee buried in the small print, BECAUSE they want to sting you with a charge you will have forgotten about when you took the policy out, nor do they mention it when you cancel on line until after you have cancelled. Total rip off insurance for learner drivers

Be warned!!! £119.05 Policy Cancellation Fee!!!
I am writing to warn others regarding the £119.05 cancellation fee applied following the termination of my son’s learner driver insurance policy.
Having passed his driving test, I cancelled my son’s learner insurance policy with Collingwood promptly and in good faith in order to comply with the agreement. I then had to pay a £119.05 cancellation fee for my son, who is a university student.
Passing a driving test is an expected and foreseeable outcome of holding learner insurance, and the cancellation arose solely as a direct consequence of compliance with my obligation to inform this company of a material change in status. The cancellation was therefore not due to misconduct, misuse of the policy, or any failure on our part.
Furthermore, I was on the phone waiting for 18 minutes before a disinterested ‘agent’ even spoke to me who didn’t apologise for the wait and waste of my time.
I consider the application of a cancellation fee to be disproportionate and inconsistent with the principle of fair treatment of customers.
How employees of this company sleep at night is beyond me. And guess what? They investigate it themselves and judge that it’s all legal. Legal it may be, but ethical? Justified? Fair? It really leaves a bad taste. I hope they are pleased with themselves.
So be warned people, there is a cancellation charge waiting for you when your teenager passes their driving test and it could be as much as £120!!!

Disgraceful cancellation charges!
The monthly prices were clearly too good to be true, as when it came to cancellation as my daughter had passed her test, she was charged £72. Its learner insurance so obviously the end goal is for the policy holder to pass, new young drivers are already robbed with their first year premiums when passing without having to pay to cancel their learner insurance. Needs making clearer when purchasing online! Absolutely disgusting!

Cancellation Rip Off
I bought an annual learner driver policy from Collingwood Insurance for my son for £256. The policy clearly stated that once he passed his driving test, the cover would no longer be valid, which I understood.
My son ended up passing with only a few weeks left on the policy, so I was happy to simply let it run to expiry with no refund due.
However, I was very surprised to receive an email saying I now owed a £40 “cancellation fee” because he had passed his test.
The policy had already been paid in full and, once he passed, it could no longer be used anyway. Charging £40 just to allow the policy to end feels unreasonable.
I can see from other reviews that many customers have experienced the same issue. Something to be aware of before buying.
