I was a highest-tier Lifetime Deal (LTD) member through AppSumo, having invested significantly in their top-tier plan believing in their "lifetime" promise. Without warning, Cloudimage terminated ALL AppSumo LTD accounts and downgraded everyone—regardless of tier—to the FREE plan.
Why this is unacceptable:
1. Zero Business Credibility
They changed the rules overnight. As a T7 (highest tier) LTD member, I woke up one day to find my account reduced to a free plan. No grandfather clause, no transition period, no real consideration for early supporters who trusted them. This is a breach of trust, plain and simple.
2. Insulting "Compensation"
Their so-called compensation? A maximum 50% discount (40% base + 10% annual prepay) on NEW subscription plans. But here's the insult: Whether you bought T1 (lowest tier) or T7 (highest tier), everyone gets the SAME discount. They made no distinction between someone who paid $49 and someone who paid $500+.
Even worse, they reset ALL LTD members to free accounts with identical base offers. This feels deliberately disrespectful to early adopters who believed in them.
3. Better Alternatives Exist
Why would anyone now trust a company that abandons its customers when convenient? There are far more reputable alternatives in the market:
BunnyCDN (reliable, transparent pricing)
Cloudflare (established, trustworthy)
ShortPixel (respects lifetime deals)
Gumlet (better customer treatment)
My advice to potential customers:
Choose a company with integrity. Choose one that honors its commitments. Cloudimage has proven they will change terms whenever it suits them. Today they cancel lifetime deals; tomorrow they might change subscription terms or raise prices arbitrarily.
The real question: If they can break lifetime promises, what makes you think monthly/annual subscriptions will be honored?
Save your money. Invest in companies that respect their customers.

I bought the highest-tier lifetime Cloudimage plan on AppSumo and integrated it into my business stack, trusting that “lifetime” meant what any reasonable customer would assume: as long as Cloudimage exists as a product.
What Cloudimage is doing now feels, in my opinion, completely unacceptable.
- They are shutting down all AppSumo lifetime plans, even though the product is very much alive.
- They are telling lifetime customers to move to normal paid plans and pay recurring fees, with a “discount” as the consolation prize.
- There has been no real equivalent replacement and no refund offered for the lifetime access that was sold and paid for.
- Communication was vague and staggered, and at no point did they present a solution that actually respects the original lifetime commitment.
To me, this looks like:
- A bait and switch on early supporters who helped fund the product.
- A business decision that completely trashes the trust behind lifetime deals.
- Very close to what many would describe as borderline fraudulent behavior, even if lawyers will argue over the exact wording.
If you are considering using Cloudimage today:
- Ask yourself how much their promises are worth if a fully paid lifetime deal can be unilaterally shut down and converted into “pay us again or lose access”.
- Understand that your “deal” may only last until they decide it is not profitable enough.
For other AppSumo lifetime buyers who are affected:
- Collect and keep everything: original AppSumo listing, screenshots, invoices, redemption emails, and the new termination notice.
- File formal complaints with AppSumo, explain that Cloudimage is wiping lifetime deals while the product is still running, and demand a concrete remedy.
If you feel, like I do, that this crosses the line, seriously consider speaking to a lawyer or your local consumer protection body, and explore coordinated or collective action with other affected customers.
Based on this experience, I would not trust Cloudimage with any critical part of my infrastructure again. Their treatment of lifetime customers speaks louder than any marketing copy on their site.
Updated 29/11/2025: After emailing to Cloudimage, Cloudimage replied to me directly.
Their main points were:
- They say the decision was reviewed and approved by both their own legal team and AppSumo’s legal team.
- They say the old Cloudimage 2018 infrastructure is “end of life” and they rebuilt Cloudimage as a new, more advanced platform.
- They insist this is not a scam and that they acted in good faith.
- Their proposed “solution” is still only a discount of up to 50 percent on the new recurring plans, on top of the original AppSumo voucher.
From my point of view, this does not fix the core problem:
- I did not buy a specific internal infrastructure. I bought a lifetime Cloudimage plan.
- The Cloudimage brand and product are still alive. Only the AppSumo lifetime tier is being killed.
- A discounted recurring plan is not an equivalent replacement for a fully paid lifetime deal.
So my view has not changed. If anything, the response confirms my concern that early AppSumo customers are being used to fund the product, then pushed off their lifetime plans when it no longer suits the vendor.
I encourage other affected AppSumo buyers to keep records of everything, contact both Cloudimage and AppSumo in writing, and if necessary speak with consumer protection bodies or legal counsel about their options.

We've been using Cloudimage for a few years now and never had any issues.
Thanks to their auto-resize features, our clients can upload pretty much any image, of any size, and the end user will always have an optimized and lightweight images. This greatly simplifies image management in our platform.
Great performance overall, and easy to use product for our tech team.

Funded their development by selling AppSumo lifetime licenses, and then when they finish developing their product they rug pull the lifetime licenses.
I would fully accept their excuses if they truly were now offering a different product, but as far as I can tell it's still an Image optimisation and image CDN service at it's core. Sure they've added new features and built it again from the ground up, but they could still have offered the core image CDN and optimisation features that were promised (and paid for), and limited access to the newly added features for AppSumo customers.
These excuses don't really cut it, and I'm surprised AppSumo's legal team let them get off so lightly without any form of reimbursement. To me lots of newly added features doesn't equal a materially different product than what was sold when the core features are the same, and therefore licences should be honoured going forward, or reimbursed.

Do not trust this company, they sold a lifetime Cloudimage accounts and just removed access after taking our money. Any company can start adding features and instead of granting them, or keeping previous product, they cancel your access?! What a joke and bad excuse! You can keep your discount on monthly payments, would never pay you another cent.

We had purchased a lifetime plan supporting the company as early adopters, but as of November they cancelled all the lifetime accounts they sold.

I had to use it briefly during an event for over 10k people and we were able to do it fast and painless.
It was incredible that it worked so well and the price is great too.

Extraordinary support
Up and running within minutes — literally minutes
Pricing is fair & images load lightning fast — even faster than via Cloudflare's equivalent solution !!

CloudImage was great when we first started. But they recently rolled out a new dashboard and pricing. Normally I'd say, "Good for them, they're growing!" But the way they did it was horrific.
Typically when a company changes their pricing they don't kick paying customers off of the platform. They just upgrade the customer's pricing tier automatically. We were subscribed to the "Free Tier" but had our credit card plugged in. The free tier had overage charges. We were paying for overage the equivalent of two paid-tiers higher than the "Free Tier" (which we had on our roadmap to adjust).
One day our platform no longer had image service. Because they got rid of the free tier without auto-upgrading, they just cut off service. Their customer support blamed me for not reading their emails. But their emails were wordy, markety, and stuck in my Promotions tab. Then when I clicked the resubscribe button in their new dashboard, the service took DAYS to turn back on. Customer service said it had something to do with provisioning new service. Seriously? Are you going to tell a new customer that they can't use it for days on end when before you could just sign-up-and-go? Upgrading is raising something to a higher standard. This ain't that.
And their resubscribe button? It's so buggy that you can't tell whether you're subscribing in Euros, USD, monthly, or yearly. That's how bad this has gone. Then they had the gall to close my support ticket before resolving whether or not we're on the correct tier at the correct price.
Look elsewhere for a solution. They're not careful about anything that they do anymore, and if you need help, you're cooked.

I bought a „lifetime licence“ at Appsumo for cloudimage. Now cloudimage changed the name or their product and i got downgraded to a free plan. That is really bad business.

I had a portfolio website with more than 100 high-resolution images, each over 6 MB, and my site was loading very slowly. After integrating Cloudimage, all my pictures were automatically optimized to under 1 MB each, and now my website loads incredibly fast. The best part is that everything is easy to manage thanks to their WordPress plugin, which handles all the images automatically.
As the director at Robot4Work, we set up Cloudimage once and it has worked quietly in the background since then. Our pages feel faster and smoother, especially on product and event content, and the experience has been reliable over time. Setup was straightforward, and support was responsive when we had a few questions during onboarding. We don’t touch it every day; it just keeps working.
Easy to integrate and best in the market. We love the overall experience starting from integration to production. CloudImage really helped us reduce the size of images and made our fetching extremely fast. I highly recommend!
I'll trailed Cloudimage.io for one of my affiliate websites off the back of a recommendation from an old work colleague. The site is built on WordPress so I one of the things I looked for was ease of integration and the fact there was a plugin which automatically rewrites the image URLs to the Cloudimage version was amongst the many benefits. The fact the free plan comes with 25GB of traffic and image cache was another! They say their CDN is lighting-fast and it's hard to dispute that - I saw noticeable increases with image loading and not having the bottleneck of loading images from the site hosting itself, had an obvious positive impact on overall page load times. I looked at the documentation a little as also plan to utilise on some higher traffic sites that will need me to manipulate the Cloudimage URL format myself and all the syntax is easy to follow and there are lots of useful transformations over and above the basic resizing etc. Would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a CDN and surprised more people haven't switched on to the free plan to test this in action.
It's really a great platform to improve your website performance. Very easy to install, use and manage.
Cloudimage has significantly improved our website's speed, offering a noticeable performance boost compared to other options we've used. The service provides excellent value for its pricing, with fast and reliable image delivery, which is essential for our image-heavy real estate website. What truly sets Cloudimage apart is its exceptional customer support—quick, responsive, and always helpful. While their WordPress plugin is currently undergoing updates and could use some improvements, we still highly recommend Cloudimage for anyone in need of a fast and dependable CDN with top-notch support.
I needed to implement a CDN on our main website as the images were previously loaded directly from the web server causing bottlenecks and a slower than optimal experience for the end user. I selected cloudimage.io initially on its ease of integration - I was able to prototype serving images from cloudimage.io in hours. Once this was implementing on our core platform, we saw a significant improvement on overall page speed purely down to cloudimage.io and the drastically improved speed of image delivery and on-the-fly conversion to the WebP format, also with the added benefit of saving bandwidth on the actual web server. At this moment we are really only utilising the resizing feature but there is so much more available to us. The admin area is easy to navigate and functions like invalidating the cache for individual images is easy to do. Would definitely recommend, particular as there is a free version to trial so you can do so at no cost/risk.
I've been using Cloudimage as a CDN for my website, and it has been a fantastic experience. The service is reliable, fast, and simple to integrate, making my images load seamlessly without any noticeable delay. Even as a free service, it offers robust performance that enhances the user experience for my site's visitors. Highly recommended for anyone looking to optimize their website's speed and efficiency.
Since 2019 I have relied on Cloudimage to provide quality and delivery to our images. We have a WooCommerce shop and using the plugin have integrated the cdn option and image optimisation, it serves light images and also makes the website faster
Cloudimage delivers great image optimisation results. it's fast, reliable, and easy to use. I connected it to my AWS image store, and I am very happy with the image compression results on my website
