I’d be very careful about signing up…

I’d be very careful about signing up with Clerk.io

They charged us over $2000 when we didn't use their code at all.

Their “can’t lose” guarantee seems worthless.

They don't do refunds.

Their onboarding process is unprofessional

BACKGROUND:

We signed up to Clerk.io on a wdify installation basis.

- The installation process itself was a mess. For example: Their installation workflow / process document was like something from the 90s. Badly designed word docs.

- They were unprofessional eg we had to send the passwords to them several times. (And they wanted these sent by open email. They didn't get that it would be safer to send these via whatsapp etc)

- But the big problem was they left half-finished elements live online - even though these wouldn't have taken long to finish off. Instead they literally left them online and said they’d fix them in a few days!

- The account manager acted passive aggressive. Surprised at why we needed their incomplete changes taken off the live website (The site was left a mess. Our sales suffered immediately)... Then smooth-talked about how they would hate for us to have a bad experience… which, of course, they had literally just given us.

- They then spent weeks saying they would be setting it all up again on a non-live instance ie a test site.

- Eventually they admitted they couldn’t do that without our developers

(We had said at the outset we didn't want our usual developers to get involved - they weren’t available. Clerk.io promised all along that this wouldn’t be necessary).

Unfortunately, unknown to us, throughout this time clerk.io had started charging us monthly

We had thought the payments would only start when we were live / using their service. If we had known this we would have cancelled formally.

Instead, after a couple of months, we simply made it clear that we weren’t going to move forward.

When we did our year end and saw their automated monthly charges totalling about $2000 we asked for a refund.

They said a senior manager would contact us to discuss it.

Nobody did - despite several reminders.

Arguably they could have kept a couple of month’s payment for the installation. But they’ve kept several months’ payments.

Bear in mind we didn't use their code at all.

First of all, I truly am sorry that you have not had a good experience with Clerk.io. We pride ourselves on a high level of customer service, so I do apologise that you have not been satisfied. I have now thoroughly investigated your case.

I see in the email history that we asked once for confirmation of credentials. After receiving that, we still needed the exact URL to access your site, but there must have been a misunderstanding because credentials was shared once again.

We then experienced that the shared credentials didn't work and asked once again. You asked for the possibility to share credentials elsewhere than mail and we met your wish by setting up a Google Meet call.

I see that on the 28th+29th of July 2021 there was a lot of emails going back and forth between us and you. All of them were related to some of the modules that were implemented, which didn’t live up to your expectations. But they were all answered within the same day.

On the 2nd of August you disabled the app due to a drop in your Sales.

Your dedicated Onboarding Consultant has been in dialogue with you throughout your journey. She apologised to you for some of the wording might have seemed harsh. You replied back that everything was ok.

Your dedicated Account Manager, who replied to you after you wished to cancel, wrote an email with all the steps and details needed to cancel your subscription.

On the 18th of June 2021, in the first weeks of your Onboarding, we suggested that a test environment would be preferable due to the complications that can come from working on a live site.

We’re sorry if we’ve been unclear about this. We meet different configurations every day and at times we need more information to know where to navigate in order to not make crucial mistakes.

We inform our clients from a start, that payment begins from the day the contract is signed, because we already set several things in motion to begin your onboarding. Further, in most scenarios the 15 development hours that are included in your subscription, are cheaper than the cost you would have to pay elsewhere to do the implementation.

On the 4th of June, one week after signing, you also received an email from us, stating clearly, that with regards to pricing you’re paying from the sign-up date to cover the Onboarding costs.

I’m very sorry for the period of time between your request for cancellation and now. That is on us. However, as we have explained, our contracts are without any minimum contract period that allows you to cancel your subscription at any time from your end - without our involvement.

I’ll make sure to follow through, today, with your request about a refund.

Smooth Installation, Great Service

We recently implemented clerk.io on our website and have been very impressed with the results so far. As with any major change to a website there were hurdles to be navigated, but our contact Daan has been absolutely brilliant throughout the whole process.

Communication has been top notch all the way across the installation procedure and most importantly, the end product has worked! Our conversion rate has improved significantly upon last year, and we're looking forward to seeing how it performs over gifting season.
