Worst bank on planet earth
Worst bank on planet earth. As a person that banks with multiple Canadian banks, CIBC is a nightmare. Extremely unorganized, horrible customer service. In 4-5 months of dealing with an issue that resolved within a second, I spoke to over 10-15 customer service reps including going to the branch I only has 3 nice helpful ones. And 2 of them where after I snapped and called them to close all of my accounts. I'd give it a negative 10 if I could. Absolute disaster of an institution. Condescending client resolution team. Telephone banking team hangs up on you if they dont want to resolve issues . Never going back to this bank. Only resolution is file a complaint that no one will ever care or review and lets just live in the dumpster fire of a bank scamming and being absolute disrespectful to customers. They placed my account on hold for 4 months would tell me why, branch opened a new account then started ignoring email to close the old account. Now when i snapped because i didnt get any help i started getting calls from "nice people" that wanted me to stay as their customer, i told them my whole story and they momentarily released the hold on my account that was limiting me to use it for 4 months when i was calling and trying to remove it just by getting "i dont know, i cant tell you whats wrong" Told me to call customer resolution team where I told the lady my story and she just said "thats too much information what do you want from me" Insane take when I'm trying to get an issue resolved.
Bad customer service
I went to a CIBC bank to open my bank account a 1 month ago. And I made my first purchase by purchasing a wallet. But my second purchase didn’t work. And we back to CIBC, and the cause of this was by these idiots who locked my bank account because they said there was not enough ID or something. My mom was infuriated because these brain dead imbeciles asked for if I had a driver license! NO! I don’t! Then my mom told them to close the account. These people who currently work here Should not be hired here at all. I’m not trying to be racist. But we need better customer service, because the current customer service is very bad, rude and frustrating.
Suddenly freeze my account,I can't use…
Suddenly freeze my account,I can't use the money. And let me call them, i'm waiting for almost 40 mins before someone answer my call. Then the customer services guy transfer me to other department, at this time my call get hang up for no reason. Finally my problem get solved but it takes me a long time. And this problem repeats every haft year. Jeessus
The waiting to speak to a customer…
The waiting to speak to a customer service rep, is crazy long!!!
they should please be so kind and hire more people.
I have set up an estate account
I have set up an estate account. Unfortunately the advisor is used told me the grant of pro ate would gi ve me access to my late mother's checking account to pay final bill. Now I found out that they will not accept digital copies. We'll the court keeps the will of my late mother's. I only have digital copies but that's not acceptable because they want original copies. Unbelievable service jumping through problem after problem. Never use CIBC
Loyalty means Zero
After more than 20 years with CIBC, I’ve learned that loyalty is a one-way street.
I have trusted CIBC with my banking, credit cards, mortgage, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in investments. When I needed them to stand behind a travel product sold through their CIBC Rewards Travel program, they didn’t.
I purchased a Cabo San Lucas vacation package. The itinerary, which I only received after specifically requesting it two days later, showed flights to Mexico City while the resort and transfers were in Cabo. Rather than address the obvious incompatibility of the package, CIBC chose to defend the transaction and deny responsibility.
The issue is no longer the travel booking. It’s the realization that after 20 years of loyalty, my relationship with the bank meant absolutely nothing when a problem arose.
My mortgage is up for renewal in 2027 and it will not be staying with CIBC. I am currently exploring options to redeem my remaining travel points, close my credit card accounts, and transfer my investments elsewhere.
Banks love to talk about relationships and customer loyalty. My experience with CIBC taught me that those words only matter when they’re convenient.
Twenty years as a customer. One issue. Zero accountability.
Called in to speak to a rep & had to go…
Called in to speak to a rep & had to go thru the animated messaging three time before it comprehended my need to actually speak to a person. After finally getting the message I was directed to the department only to be put on hold, I waited patiently as it stated up to a 30 minute hold, only to be disconnected 24 minutes later. There are times when customers actually have important questions that need to be addressed. CIBC needs to do better.
If it could be minus greatly…
If it could be minus greatly appreciated. I have no money they locked me out even though I got paid today they locked my account. They locked my account so now I had to complain.
They don't notify you by email that you…
They don't notify you by email that you need to call them or that thetransactions is flagged, you have to call them three or more times everytime that you make a transaction and even after you call they will give you nothing as a solution.
Avoid the CIBC Ventura VISA — Fraud Prevention System is Out of Control and Completely Unreliable
I am extremely disappointed with the CIBC Ventura VISA Credit Card, and I strongly warn others against using it for major travel bookings. Their fraud department and internal tracking systems are utterly incompetent, and their customer service caused me to lose a valuable booking.
About two months ago, I tried to book a hotel reservation worth roughly $2,000. What followed was a nightmare of continuous errors and denial of responsibility:
Trip.com: The transaction kept failing, with error messages explicitly stating the issue was on the bank's end. When I called CIBC customer service, I was transferred to the Fraud Department. They claimed they saw no blocked transactions and blamed the website.
Booking.com: I tried rebooking on a completely different platform. Exactly the same error occurred. The Fraud Department again refused to admit there was any issue on their side.
Agoda.com: I escalated to a supervisor in the Fraud Department. He assured me my account was properly configured. To prove the point, I stayed on the phone with him while making a pre-authorized $2,000 booking on Agoda. He confirmed everything was set up and ready to go.
Even after pre-authorization, the nightmare wasn't over.
When the time came for the actual charge to process, it was declined yet again. The Fraud Department texted me at 1:00 AM while I was sleeping. As soon as I woke up, I replied to their text, and they told me to have the merchant run the charge again. I went online to pay the balance directly, only to receive the exact same error message: the bank had blocked the transaction.
I immediately called customer service and was put on hold for over half an hour. Before I could even reach a representative in the fraud department, the hotel canceled my reservation. To rebook the exact same room now, I have to pay 33% more.
Fraud prevention is important, but CIBC has gone way too far. Their system is incapable of tracking approved transactions, their staff refuses to take ownership, and their incompetence directly cost me money and my travel plans. Save yourself the stress and use a different credit card for your travel needs.
I was a newcomer to Canada when I…
I was a newcomer in Canada when I opened my account at CIBC. I used their service for 5 years and i had horrible experience. Always have a problem and they never cared to solve my issues. They dont care about their costumers at all. Once 900 dollars withdrawed from my saving account. If i wouldnt notice it i would lost that money. Then they apologized and they didnt even make an explanation. Also never travel abroad with cibc. I wasnt able to use my cards for 2 days in Mexico and i spent half of my vacation trying to contact with them. Also i recently made a domestic wire transfer, even though they said it will be delivered in 17 hours, it has been more than two days and it hasn’t been delivered yet. The worst part i cant ask question to anyone. Nobody knows anything. I am so regret i chose cibc. Any other bank is way better than cibc. Just dont trust them or give your money.
CIBC does not ultimately care about its…
CIBC does not ultimately care about its customers, but only about its bottom line. They apparently do not have sufficient staffing to service customer calls. I have spent three weeks now trying to get a hold removed from a credit card tied to a business account which resulted from a legitimate transaction that was erroneously flagged by CIBC. They make you wait hours on the phone to speak someone with no regard to the fact that this is for a business. Your lost time means nothing to them. Customer care has thus far only provided platitudes and my own bank manager has not been able to resolve the issue despite her efforts. The level of disservice at this bank is almost comical if it wasn't so sad.
Terrible Customer Service with CIBC
For the past five days, we were trying to get into our CIBC Account Mastercard, we were speaking with agents in the Phillipines, they were difficult to understand, they speak too fast, the problem di not get resolved until Monday, July 27th, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. EST,
We would appreciate a follow-up telephone call at your earliest convenience to discuss this important matter and receive some compensation for all the trouble and stress that CIBC caused us over this five day period. Thanking you in advance. Ann and George Vandervlugt 613-822-2016 or 613-806-3062.
For five years I've been wiring funds…
For five years I've been wiring funds to my CIBC business account. They consistently post same day if I initiate before 11 am. Now, they've "Improved and Upgraded" their system and....they say it will now take 1 - 3 business days to clear. Somehow, in the CIBC world, they're probably making millions on interest every year sitting on other peoples money. SMH
CIBC wasted 6 weeks of my time
CIBC wasted 6 weeks of my time with a false mortgage pre approval. they gave me and my wife false hope on what we could afford, and when it came time that we made an offer on a house and it was accepted, it turned out cibc had not factored in any debts that we currently had and we were significantly short on what we could actually afford. we lost the house that we were going to buy because we could absolutely not afford it. it was an extremely embarrassing situation that cibc "client care" said they were going to make right. first off they took their sweet time to look into the situation and then they refused to tell me what they were offering to "make it right". they made me tell them what i wanted, then when i told them what i wanted they "reviewed" it for over a week then without discussion, or notification they deposited 1/27th of what i asked for into my account. it was insulting, and then i missed one phone call from them and it took over a day to get a response back when i tried calling 10 minutes after my missed call. the phone call that i had was insulting as well regarding the compensation. i can not believe that after 18 years banking with cibc this is the treatment i get.
Worst customer service
Worst customer service ever people are rude and uneducated. I’ve been yelled at by Cibc customer service representative and they hang up the phone on me. I’ve been calling past two months back-and-forth to resolve a problem and it still not been resolved. every time I called them for the same problem they say they’re going to fix it but two months later still not fixed.
Bank Service
I am in Canada 1 month and 1 week, i opened a CIBC newcomer account after my second week here. My account has been blocked 3 times since opening. I am on first name basis with the staff that unblocks my account weekly. This week i will close my CIBC account. I am 2 week with another bank and have no issues i would rather give them my business, because the know what customer service is about.
Extremely Disappointing Experience with CIBC Mortgage Advisor – Varun Garg
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel a responsibility to share our experience so that other homebuyers can make an informed decision.
Our experience with CIBC Mortgage Advisor, Varun Garg, was extremely disappointing and left us feeling misled and completely let down. Based on the way our mortgage application was handled, we strongly felt that the product was mis-sold to us and that we were deceived by the assurances and representations made throughout the process.
From the outset, we were repeatedly assured that CIBC would beat the mortgage rate offered by RBC. Based on those assurances, we decided to proceed with CIBC instead of accepting RBC's offer. Unfortunately, those commitments never materialized.
We were also informed that our file was simply awaiting approval from the Regional Vice President. However, when we contacted CIBC ourselves, no one could locate any record of such an approval process. This significantly undermined our confidence in the information we had been given and left us questioning the accuracy of the updates we had received.
We started our mortgage application approximately three months before our closing date and responded to every request for documentation promptly. Despite doing everything expected of us, communication became increasingly poor, and we were kept in the dark for much of the process.
What was most alarming was that on the day of closing, after months of preparation, we were told that we could simply delay our closing. Anyone purchasing a home understands that such advice at the last minute could have had serious financial and legal consequences, including putting our property purchase at risk. This level of advice was completely unacceptable.
The experience felt very different from the excellent service we received initially. Once the mortgage had closed, our emails and phone calls went unanswered, leaving us feeling abandoned as clients. That has significantly damaged our trust and confidence in both the advisor and CIBC.
We also feel that the mortgage product we ultimately received was substantially more expensive than alternatives available to us. Had we not relied on repeated assurances that CIBC would provide a more competitive offer, we would have proceeded with RBC instead.
We currently have an official case open with CIBC regarding our experience and hope the bank conducts a thorough review and takes appropriate action. We also hope CIBC improves its oversight to ensure future clients receive transparent, accurate, and timely communication throughout the mortgage process.
My advice to anyone considering a mortgage is simple: shop around, obtain offers from multiple lenders, and ensure that any promises regarding rates, cashback, or approvals are confirmed in writing before making your decision.
Unfortunately, our experience has left us with a significant lack of confidence in both this mortgage advisor and the level of customer service we expected from CIBC.
Call to find out why am I being charged…
Call to find out why am I being charged $25 when I'm a senior citizen and she asked me security questions that were ridiculous and then I could not get it resolved. Worst bank ever do yourself a favor do not open an account with CIBC, you will be aggravated beyond belief by the time you finish the call.
