We had the best time!

We managed to get the chance to stay here before restrictions were put in place and I'm so happy that we did.

It was a very welcome break surrounded by nature and the place itself is amazing. We felt so excited when we arrived looking around at the gorgeous bedrooms and the upstairs area is so relaxing and open.

There are lots of games stocked up as well as DVDs for the large projector to get that cinema experience. We even had the opportunity to light a fire and roast some marshmallows. It was absolute heaven and I would go back in a second.

The walks around the area are some of the best I have ever seen. The scenery is just beautiful and I loved seeing the birds landing on the patio area eating the bird seed left for them.

Overall it was a fantastic stay and I would definitely recommend to anyone needing a little break from the busy city life.

We stayed in red kite barn last year and in all honesty would live there if we could!!! The barn is completely off the grid surrounded by beautiful scenery with the sound of streams/ waterfalls as you sit in the patio area- utter bliss!
The beds are just heavenly, I have not slept that well in a long time - so comfy!! The barn has everything you need for a relaxing break especially the projector with the cinema effect lighting - I am currently trying to rebook for this year as we cannot wait to return :)

We were lucky enough to get away to The…

We were lucky enough to get away to The Barn early December 2020. Communication with Anjana prior to our visit was excellent. She answered any questions we had, sent directions and the code for entry to the barn.

I cannot tell you just how blown away we were on opening the door to the barn. We had previously stayed at the Conker and were in awe of the property. It was immaculately clean and well made up for us on arrival.

The manual /advice booklet upstairs is worth the read, with lots of information about the area and the equipment in the home.

Facilities within the properly are fab! The screen is perfect for late night movies. The kitchen was well equipped and the views are breathtaking. The maker and son sofa is the ultimate chill out zone with late night popcorn and hot chocolate.

We were put in touch with “stevie the hot tub man” for the extra touch to our stay - showing how helpful the owners were before our visit.

The barn has everything you need. It’s a truly remarkable properly in a perfect location.

I cannot wait until we can travel again :)

Thank you both for our stay

Hello Melanie,
It’s nice to hear that you and Tony enjoyed the graduation to the grown up Red Kite Barn from the Conker which I know you loved too. During lockdown we worked hard to improve areas of the barn internally and we are now introducing ponies and pigs to help rewild the private 80 Acres of woodland we manage round the barn , so I enjoyed hearing about the clever house pig you used to own. Hope to see you and your mom and niece soon. Ànjana

Have just returned home after a wonderful and relaxing weekend at Red Kite Barn. The perfectly equipped Barn (both inside and out) is surrounded by beautiful scenery which provided the perfect backdrop to unwind and relax. We hope to return soon.

Booked the red kite dragons egg a year…

Booked the red kite dragons egg a year ago well we got there after a 6 hour drive to find someone else in the dragons egg no one was there to explain why but we ended up in the tree tent opposite which we have looked at and didn't want to stay in but we had no choice so when we looked at the tree tent it was dirty and the pod had not been cleaned properly and it should of as covid19 is still around the kettle was disgusting the kitchen utensils was rusty and only one chair on the decking the other chair was broken there was a dirty sponge and a dirty brush left for us to use to wash up with there was someone's shower gel still in the shower and as forcit being private well to women walked past lucky I wasn't in the shower and there was no ice block's in the small cool box so what good is that, there was no canopy on the decking by the fire and no hammock there and no cover for the fire wood so it ended up getting wet so didn't burn well the comfortable mattress was just a 4 inch piece of sponge so very uncomfortable bleave me it was well after having 4 rubbish nights there i have taken lots of photos and made a complaint.

Mr Lawrence appears to have moderately enjoyed his 4-night 'free' stay and has rated us with 2 stars, for which we can thank him. After speaking to him at length on Saturday evening and apologising for having had to change him from Dragon's Egg to Ynys Affalon, (tents largely identical save in colour), I ascertained that he fully intended to use this fact to get a free stay. In fact he told me as much.

We take timed and dated photographs prior to entry because in such times - as the Guardian has reported - a small minority of people are using Covid to exploit independent businesses who have had to honour earlier bookings, cancelled during lockdown, at their personal expense, and are nervous of social media, as above. I really felt we needed to take a stand as we have had the same tactic employed against us, even by a doctor, which to me is the last straw. I anticipate she may choose to write on this forum so I thought I would address this pre-complaint at the same time.

We turn ourselves inside out to try to accommodate people. There has been an unprecedented demand for holidays post-lockdown and we hear people's stress and pain and try to find somewhere special for them to go to. We have inquiries from so many health and key workers because we offer a unique blend of peace and tranquillity. This does not, of course, mean that we are perfect by any means, and offering such remote holidays does mean patience has to be exercised if a gas bottle runs out or a squirrel eats your food.

Please, if you are booking a holiday with anyone, if something isn't right, let the owners know early on, as a small issue can generally be resolved in a timely fashion. It is simply not right to consume the product for 4-7 days and then demand a refund. At the time, with the level of demand we have, a full refund could have been made as we have 4 -5 inquiries to every one space sold. Mr Lawrence could have gone somewhere he liked, and we could have had a guest who liked our unique offering.

Suffice to say in this case, Mr Lawrence sent me one screen shot of a call he made to me for 3 seconds before hanging up and then had sheepishly to admit he and his partner cleaned only AFTER they had spent the night there, and that he did not have any photos of cobwebs, flies or leaks, or any of the matters he alleges to justify his complaint. Nonetheless, the third party company, holidaycottages.co.uk has taken it upon itself to refund him £250 as they wish to close down his complaint. As a representative of Sawdays said to us, it is an extraordinary time and as much goodwill as can be spread around is so very much appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

Relaxing break away from it all

We were honoured to be the first guests to use the Conker, which was a unique experience for us. It was very cosy & warm and with enough space for us & our 2 year old Springer Spaniel - watching the stars through the roof porthole and enjoying our morning cuppa in the March sunshine on the deck with fantastic views. We moved on to stay at Red Kite Barn, which we also thoroughly enjoyed. Lots of thoughtful touches from Anjana & David which we really appreciated. Away from everything, the sound of owls, woodpeckers, lambs - bliss.
Only reason for 4* is linked to being dog friendly : being surrounded by sheep outside the Conker & Barn it would have been useful to have a fenced in area on the estate that our dog could run off lead, but regardless wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a brilliant escape from the bustle of life.

A wonderful Welsh retreat

Red Kite Barn is fantastic! We had a wonderful long weekend getting away from it all - it really is a great place with everything you need for a retreat from busy lives. We parked our car on Friday afternoon & didn’t move the car until the morning we left. We made full use of the amazing facilities - well-equipped kitchen, comfy sofas, amazing big screen & projector, pool table, & luxury bedrooms & bathrooms - perfect for us with 2 adult children. The surrounding area is spectacularly beautiful. The host Anjana is helpful & speedy with her communications. We hope to be back in the not too distant future. Highly recommend.

Red Kite Tree Tent - Ynys Affalon

I surprised my husband with a night here in November for his birthday and we both absolutely loved it! The host, Anjana was very helpful with recommendations for local restaurants and responded quickly to my queries.
The campsite kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of wood for the fire. We spent the night cooking steak, potatoes and corn on the campfire (which was DELICIOUS), drinking whiskey and watching the stars between the tree canopies.
The tree tent warmed up quickly once we got the wood burning stove going, and was really fun to stay in! There's a handy book about the tent to read, which isn't kidding when it says you will continue to feel the rocking motion for a couple of days after!
We stayed at a Michelin restaurant near Monmouth the next day, but on reflection I wish we'd stayed longer at the tree tent instead.
We will definitely be booking to stay again.

Luxurious hideaway

Spent a blissful week hidden away here for my 40th birthday. Went for some wonderful hikes and cycles in the beautiful Elan Valley to return to soak in the luxurious bath and then snuggle down to enjoy the cinema screen in front of the wood burning stove. Kitchen well equipped if you fancy doing a bit of cooking, beds super comfy and night sky amazing. Looking forward to returning again, this time bringing the kids. Book you won’t regret it.
