Chantry Vets has been providing veterinary care to the pets of West Yorkshire for more than 60 years. Initially based in Wakefield Town Centre, we have expanded into one of the area’s largest Small Animal practices. We have 7 branches located across West Yorkshire in Wakefield, Middleton, Castleford, Pontefract, Normanton & Great Houghton. Our branches are supported by our main Hospital at Brindley Way in Wakefield. We initially moved from our headquarters at Gills Yard, Wakefield, to Alverthorpe in 2012, but later outgrew this site also. We opened our flagship purpose-built hospital with state-of-the-art facilities in March 2022 to provide greater levels of service to our customers and their beloved pets. Our Gills Yard and Alverthorpe surgeries now provide first-opinion services to the local community in easily accessible locations. The practice gained hospital status in 2013; the highest level of accreditation available from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Every four years the practice undergoes rigorous inspections across all our premises.

Really sad to say this but another experience where I feel genuinely robbed. Paying what is extortionate pricing for medication which is 5 x dearer from the vets is simple criminal. I can see why pet owners decide not to use vets which is very sad. Also the estimate for more blood tests and X-rays was simply crazy and blood tests only carried out 6 moths ago. Its think of a number and sadly I feel that they put cost above care.

One of their staff receptionist is RACIST and boarderline abusive .
Absolutely livid with what I found out few days ago. So when my cat was taken to her first consultation with what we knew to be Entropion, I did think it bizarre that she wasnt given any flourescent orange drops in her eye to check for any other issues … We took her to another reputable vets for the surgery as financially could not afford the surgery procedure at Chantry, to be told she had an eye ulcer! Which would of been caught if the vet had done standard protocol! So my poor baby has been suffering longer with an ulcer also which could of been detected in first instance! Was also given steroid eye ointment which makes eye ulcers worse!!!! Current vets have now prescribed the correct medication for the ulcer until surgery begins. I would like to heat back from Chantry Normanton about how to rectify this issue as serious neglect of care on the vets part! Believe the vets name was Jaro? The reception have been nothing but lovely with us but the care/vet side absolutely stinks!

The first time I gave a bad review on the vet who sorted her ears out, this time our Blu had to have a operation and I wasn’t too happy this vet was doing it but I gave them 5stars. Absolutely amazing with her, rang me about what was happening and when I left her to when I brought her own. They even rang me to make sure she was ok. They could not off helped us any more. Thank you to the operation Team x

Two months ago I ordered flea and worm treatment for my cat went to collect and they had given me flea treatment that my cat was allergic to even thoe the vet an receptionist knew this and they are suppose to care animals
Our dog Jake has unfortunately required surgery to his leg and Chanrty have been outstanding. All the staff have been amazing, Lisa who performed the surgery and Maria who has helped us deal with Jake’s after care (can’t name others but would like to) have been amazing. Really caring and understand for ourselves and Jake.
I’ve never had anything but a positive experience with Chantry, over many years of taking various pets to them. I’ve always found them to be knowledgeable, efficient, organised and, above all, so caring of my animals. When I lost my cat earlier this year, they were so kind, making a difficult time that little bit easier. Thank you Team Chantry
I would rate chantry today no stars. I have been a customer for 35 years and have 2 cats and 4 dogs all in health plan so costly. I had appointment at normanton today and I needed my dog to be seen asap (usually would be Pontefract). Got there to find shutters down and no one around. Phoned brindley way from car and 15 mins later I got a receptionist who was not obligeing and said we phoned u and left a voice mail to phone us. I told her I didn't get call or voice mail. She went on to say the manager phoned at 9am and no answer and no option to leave voicemail mail (which was it left voice mail or not) I asked to what number etc etc but the just say lady 4 numbers. I said you did not phone me and I got don't speak to me like that and I said I'm not speaking like anything I'm just saying nobody phoned me. With that the little girl put phone down.
If I'd of been abusive swearing angry I'd get it. I wasn't. Defo gone down hill.

Terrible!! We have been waiting nearly 4 weeks for test results of a sample taken during an ultra sound to finally being told that they have not sent the sample off to the lab for testing and found it in a fridge on 30/06/25.
To make matters worse we were told we would have the results around 19/06/25, so we started to contact the practice starting 24/06/25 and numerous times each week until today only to be told a different story each time and that someone would ring us back to discuss the matter and no one rang us back.
No one has enquired about our dogs after care or treatment of his bladder infection since he last visited on 12/06/25 which says to me they don’t care.
We are now in the process of complaint to them and intend to report them to RCVS as by the looks of the 1 star reviews on here we aren’t the only ones to be let down!
Very kindly gave us an emergency appt and dealt with straight away, was away in leeds and husky became very unwell, from ringing through to the very kind receptionist through to the vet treating our husky found the whole experience was dealt with very quickly and efficiently, was very stressful for us as we were away, thank you
A really friendly and caring team, who provided us with a wonderful service in our time of need. Our dog fell ill suddenly and the team were so lovely when looking after him, going that extra mile to keep us updated every step of the way and tendering his every need. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to all my family and friends! Incredible service.
Extremely disappointed with the treatment my dog received here. After a stressful and confusing experience, we were sent home with no clear instructions, no pain relief, and no proper aftercare. We were told my dog’s claw would be removed — it wasn’t — and days later, he’s still struggling and in pain. I submitted a formal complaint and was told it would be acknowledged within 72 hours… I’ve had no response at all. Really poor communication and follow-through. Not what you expect when trusting a vet with your pet’s health.
We have been taking our cats to Chantry for 11 years. The Receptionists are always very friendly & helpful. The Nurses are very caring & treat our cats like their own. The vets are compassionate & advise of the best available treatments for our cats. When making insurance claims, the office staff are so knowledgeable. One of our cats had health issues when we adopted him, and he was referred to an internal medicene specialist vet within Chantry who was brilliant! I love that there are blankets to cover your pet carrier while waiting at the Brindley Hospital for nervous cats & also Pet Remedy spray. I want to say thankyou to Chantry for answering all the very many questions I have had over the years & being there for our cats.
I’ve nothing but positives to say about my experience dealing with Chantry. I wouldn’t trust anybody else to deal with my pets, used them for years and will continue to do so without hesitation.
They’re all caring, honest and friendly. Thank you to all the staff, keep up the amazing work 🙂
I run a cat rescue in West Yorkshire and the help given by chantry to the rescue cats is amazing. We present them with many challenging surgeries. And the help and care given is second to none. X
I also have been with both my dogs. One who sadly passed away last year. The compassion given by the vet who looked after him was truly amazing. I have just had my other dog in for castration and again he’s been so well looked after and is booked in soon for a major surgery I know he is in the best hands. All the staff are super compassionate and they really care x
Highly recommended xxx
Outstanding! Every part of my experience was amazing. From the moment I walked through the doors I was made to feel like my gorgeous dog was the most important animal in the hospital! He was rushed from Warrington where I live with IVDD as no hospital round us had space for him. They were fantastic and told me to get him there asap! From the minute I left him they treated him like their own. He was rushed through and at that point I didn’t know if he would live or walk again, I was a mess. The staff went above and beyond making sure I was reassured through out. The paper work was all the organised and sorted for me ready for signing it was done respectfully and professionally. As I drove away leaving my dog in their hands I felt confident they would do all they could. 4 days later I picked him up and he was wagging his tail and trying to walk already, the nurses all came to say goodbye and wish us well and I could tell my dog loved them all! We had to go for physio sessions and take home lots of exercises for our dog to do which I would definitely say was a huge contributing factor to him walking again and gaining so much strength. Every session he would get excited in the car knowing where he was going and knowing who he was going to see! Every aspect of his journey was impeccable and I couldn’t fault it. If anyone has a dog suffering with IVDD I would 100% recommend making the journey if you don’t live nearby. Unfortunately for us he ended up having a second IVDD issue further down his back 9 months later we rang and they were absolutely amazing again not only telling us to get straight down to them they also remembered him! This cheered me up and made the second time so much easier. They managed expectations saying he could take longer to heal but in true Hugo fashion he bounced back faster than before. I picked him up with tears of happiness, honestly couldn’t believe they had fixed my dog again. I wouldn’t use another veterinary practice ever again. I felt like my dog was given the VIP treatment as well as myself, we were in constant contact with the vet and nursing staff and cannot thank them enough each and every one of them. From the receptionists who made us feel welcome in such a horrendous situation. To the vets and nurses for their care and compassion. The physio who exhausted us with exercise regimes that got him walking, running, and back to health, stronger than before, he wouldn’t be where he is now without that continued care. To the management team who help with the finances and contacting the insurance companies. I will never be able to thank them enough for giving me my gorgeous Hugo back fixed and bouncier than ever!
The staff at this vet’s are lovely and always put my mind at ease. I know I can call and ask questions and they will advise accordingly, always very promptly and with what’s best in mind for my precious pet. My cat was 19 years old and to have someone on hand to ask questions those last few months was invaluable and something I will always appreciate. Would definitely recommend! 5 starts!
We have used Chantry Vets for the care of our cats. One in particular was Jake who was a rescue cat. We started fostering Jake and then adopted him, he came with a number of health issues and Chantry have always been there for us offering the best advice and treatments. Chantry staff have always shown compassion, are very caring and always consider what is the best option for you and your pet. Jake is now somewhere over that Rainbow Bridge having fun, the care and attention during the month he was very poorly was the best he could have had. I have no hesitation in recommending Chantry Vets for the care of your pets.
