Terrible shoes, awful customer service

They could be the worst company I've ever interacted with. I bought a pair of the BIOlogy sandals and after only two weeks of wear, the backs of the straps had worn away. I emailed them and they were rude - they implied it must have been my fault as 'if you have rough skin sometimes this can happen' even though the wear was on the exterior of the strap too and I don't have rough skin. I said this wasn't the quality I would expect for such expensive shoes and all they had to say was as far as they were concerned, I can still wear the shoes - even though they look worn after two weeks. All they offered me was a 25Euro voucher for their online store - neglecting to acknowledge I wouldn't want to buy anything else from them after such a bad experience. Terrible customer service.

I see they have responded to say the rough skin seems to be the case for me. It is despicable that they continue with this narrative - I never once sent them any photos of my feet, so they have no idea about the state of my skin. I work extremely hard for my money and to be treated with such disrespect, sarcasm and lack of kindness tells you everything you need to know about this company.

Dear Beth,

Thank you for your feedback. There are always two sides to every story... ;-).

As we've already explained several times via email, with rough skin (which seems to be the case for you), the heel rubber can sometimes wear through. However, this does not affect the quality of the organic barefoot sandals. We would have offered a goodwill repair, but not from the UK. For this reason, we offered a generous discount. Unfortunately, you rejected everything and instead wanted a full refund. This completely contradicts any appreciation for our high-quality, handcrafted products. It's a shame.
Well, thanks for your addendum. You can certainly trust us to have a little experience, after 20 years as a manufacturer ;-). Therefore, we know very well what can cause damage to the sandals. We would have liked to have resolved it better, but that requires mutual respect. Unfortunately, that wasn't evident in your case...
Best regards

High quality company

I had a few questions before ordering the Único shoes, considering the high price, and Armin (the founder) personally responded (and quite quickly too). The shoes were delayed about a month though, which is the only negative thing I have to say. So far, shoes are good and fit my wide feet. They look good too, which is rare in the barefoot shoe world. Recommended!

Unico - very high quality shoes

I bought a pair of Unico shoes made with full grain leather and am very happy with them.
You can immediately tell they are very high quality leather shoes and the company did their best.
I have been wearing them around town on rainy days (I had to treat them with leather waterproofing products first) and on one long hike in the mountain through a varied terrain and am happy with them in terms of comfort - no blisters, but the leather on the edge is a bit stiff and after a whole day of wearing them on the next day I could feel slight pain in this area when I put them back on. Hopefully the leather will soften up with time.
The only thing I didn't like that much are the laces - they are a bit to thick and soft and don't seem befitting of these kind of shoes. One of the laces already has a small tear - most likely from the long hike.
Another thing I wish was different are the small pull tabs on the back of the shoes. I wish those were made of leather as pretty much the entire shoe is and would have liked them to be slightly longer because I can't put my finger in them to properly pull the shoes on.
