if you don’t want to waste your life dealing with CGU then AVOID AVOID AVOID

I have insured my collection specifically for $250k for a reason … a lot of money time and effort has gone in to it including paying all this money for insurance just in case if anything happened to them ( which it has been affected with strange white spores .. apparently that is not considered to be anything bad 🤷 even if they are visible or not )…

for example I have several single items and the rough total value comes to over $12k and the extra $10k is definitely not going to cover all my other items ..
I have already told CGU that I wasn’t pleased with the first outcome and the second outcome isn’t looking any better …

I believe I have told CGU that there is no point cleaning the items as I still want to keep them and I will just open them in the end … I’m not sure what the exact process is but I’m guessing the items will have to be opened to be cleaned and inspected and that would already damage the value of the items even further and I don’t see the meaning of not getting my items back if I’m just going to open them in the end ..

Sorry if this message has no meaning or if I’m not understood properly …

Update
I was given the $20k and I feel like it is hush money
I’m still not satisfied as they consider my collection to be not a Collection which makes no sense at all .. they have no understanding of my issue and they expect 20k to fix the problems in my house like that’s gonna be enough to pay the costs of fixing the walls and ripping out the floors and replacing them and what will I have left to replace my 250k collection?
CGU is a ripoff and full of stupidity AVOID AVOID AVOID
Even if your bank recommends CGU for your insurance for anything
It will be a big mistake
I was promised that my collection and my house was insured
Issues arrived and took 3 years !!! To resolve the issue that hasn’t been fully resolved !!
And all I get is peanuts ?!
Oh and I forgot to mention I did receive $1k from the beginning to fix issues in the house LOL pathetic

Weeks of silence after their own report proved my claim

One star. My tenants abandoned my rental, caused significant damage across multiple rooms, landscaping, doors, flooring, and more. CGU sent a builder to assess. The builder produced a thorough report with dozens of photos documenting the damage. Great, right? Except the scope of works that came back only covered a portion of what their own report documented, and only basic floor protection despite there already being furniture and appliances in the property due to the glacial pace my claim has progressed at. Severe pet damage caused by the tenant's animals? I have a laundry door that has been scratched down to the wood. Excluded. Landscaping damage acknowledged in six photos? A heap of weeds that required almost $2000 of landscaping work to restore the original condition. Zero dollars. Hallway flooring damage? Not scoped. When my broker formally raised every missing item and requested a revised settlement, CGU stopped responding. Daily calls, daily emails, escalation to senior staff. 20mins on the phone on hold each time. Weeks of silence. Meanwhile I'm trying to move into the property with unresolved damage, having already sunk my own time, efforts, and money into making it habitable because CGU's delays left me no choice. I'm a young guy in my 20's and this is my first investment property. Instead of giving me a fair shake, this insurer will drag things out unnecessarily and use every tactic to avoid paying what's owed, including seemingly not replying when you present evidence they can't argue against.

It is with significant disappointment…

It is with significant disappointment that I document my experience with this company. The level of service provided falls substantially below what any reasonable consumer would expect from an insurance provider operating in today’s regulatory environment.

Throughout my dealings with this organization, I encountered repeated inconsistencies in communication, unfulfilled assurances, prolonged delays, and a noticeable absence of accountability. Representations made by various representatives were frequently contradictory and, in practice, unreliable. The cumulative effect was not merely inconvenience, but a material erosion of trust.

Insurance, by its very nature, is founded upon good faith, transparency, and timely performance. In my experience, those foundational principles were notably absent. The handling of my matter reflected a pattern of inefficiency and disregard for professional standards.

On the basis of my experience, I cannot recommend this company to any prospective policyholder. Consumers are well advised to exercise extreme caution and carefully consider alternative providers before committing their time or financial resources.

Suggest suing 91 yr old woman

Shocking company, demanded clearing work be done on a mm all industrial property. Had a bad fall with nasty injuries doing work. Tried to claim $2000 to cover medical expenses and stalled, and not paying. Suggested I should sue the owner, my 91 yr old mother, with dementia. Typical heartless, money grubbing insurance company.

Unconscionable conduct

Have had our small farm insured with CGU for a few years now. Never made a claim, paid on time.
Get an email saying that they just wanted to let us know our policy was cancelled 2 months earlier . We ask why and are told that they no longer do farm insurance but they put us onto a broker to help us out. Imagine our surprise when he supplies a quote from CGU! Premium higher than before. Then we're told that the price includes the brokers fee! Since when does the customer pay brokers fees?

Very ,very disappointed in CGU terrible…

Very ,very disappointed in CGU terrible customer service we had to contact them every time, which u r on hold for 20 minutes every time.
To do with the car rental, just no communication ,they paid for 2 weeks ,car had not even been assessed, they would not reply to car rental agents, so the money was taken out of our account, we returned the car ,no refund was received after 7 days.
We contact CGU again only to find out they had extended the rental but nobody contact us to let us know . No apologies.
So l would .not recommend CGU

Very poor service

Very poor service, CGU taking money at zero quality of service level. Better to stay uninsured rather than taking this service

Not to code, safety or complaince. Erronious certificates

CGU clearly indicates it has policies and proceedures in place to prevent the below.
For two years I pointed out issues, two years CGU ignored me.
Then CGU and CGUs solicitors sent me the below.
CGU have not accepted liabliity and have done a runner. CGU refused to supply the mandatory building permits and documents.

"3.1 CGU accepted your insurance claim for fire damage and loss of rent arising from the damage to your property. CGU appointed Bay Building to carry out rectification works. While BB is independent of CGU and CGU cannot control the quality of the works completed by them, CGU accepts that BB’s works contained a number of defects and CGU accepts that it remains liable under the insurance policy to ensure those defects are rectified. Similarly, CGU accepts and agrees that the surveyor appointed erroneously granted certificates and approved the works, as did the engineer from Structural Studio.
3.2 You have identified various concerns with BB’s works and the work completed by the original surveyor and engineer. CGU accepts that those works completed by BB contained defects and that the certificates signed by the surveyor had errors. Those errors in the work of contractors is unfortunate and CGU apologises again for the loss and inconvenience caused by those contractors failing to complete their work to the necessary standard."

Site supervisor lived 3.5 hours away, 7 hour round trip. Quit the job, so I received a certificate of final inspection with no hand over, no keys, no compliance certificates, no safety certificates, no builders insurance and the illegally disconnected services not reconnected. My first viewing of the site was when the loss adjuster drove past, stopped and called letting me know they had finished and I better get down there, why the hurry? Structurally the site had already started to fall apart.
CGU eventually refused to fix the above even though CGU and CGUs solicitors agreed they were responsible. CGU
There should be a zero, for putting people lives and safety in danger by allowing non compliant building works.

CGU...plays the stalling game...7months with no outcome

Im in the middle of a very minor value claim $6k. It started 7 months ago. I've read the PDS back to front. My claim meets all the criteria. I chase and chase for updates. Each time I'm told CGU need a new piece of information. I know insurance companies are all the same but don't believe the hype that CGU stands out. They don't. I even tried to call the 24/7 number this morning to be told the claims team wont be available until Monday. My trust is broken.
