CDI College – Cybersecurity Specialist Diploma (Burnaby Campus)
My experience with CDI College has been deeply disappointing, and I cannot recommend this school to anyone considering professional retraining.
Program Misrepresentation
The program is marketed as “job-ready cybersecurity,” but in reality, the majority of the content is outdated system/network administration material. Critical hands-on labs and capstone projects, promised in marketing, were either removed or skipped entirely. Practicum placements were not aligned with cybersecurity — I was offered Level 1 phone support despite 25+ years of enterprise IT experience.
Outdated and Error-Prone Materials
CDI relies heavily on third-party content (TestOut/CompTIA) without vetting or aligning it to their eCampus exams. This resulted in constant errors, broken links, and mismatched exam keys, all documented in detail. Students were expected to work through inaccurate material with little to no correction from the institution. For example, I was taught using A+ v14 material, even though the industry had already moved to v15, leaving me underprepared for the certification exam.
Certification Support
While vouchers were provided, there was no time or structured support to prepare for exams. Courses were rushed back-to-back, giving students no opportunity to adequately study or succeed in certifications that the program was supposed to prepare us for.
Administrative Failures
The program was plagued with delays and errors: wrong textbooks provided, missing modules, weeks of downtime due to LMS issues, and repeated contract amendments to extend timelines. Communication was poor, and responses from instructors or staff often came too late to be useful.
Refund Policy and Accountability
When I raised formal complaints, CDI’s response was to dismiss my concerns. They initially claimed a refund was “not applicable” because my tuition was paid by WorkSafeBC. This is contradicted by CDI’s own refund policies, which explicitly state that refunds are paid back to the government or sponsor who funded the student. Instead of addressing the issues, CDI attempted to deflect responsibility.
Dispute Resolution Process
Even the dispute process has been mismanaged. A premature decision was issued by the Campus Director before reviewing my evidence. Only after resubmitting my evidence (and proving their mail servers silently drop ZIP files) was my case moved to the Regional Director.
Bottom line:
CDI College failed to deliver on its promises of current, job-ready cybersecurity training. The program was outdated, misaligned, and riddled with errors. Administrative support was poor, and the dispute process has been dismissive rather than corrective.
If you are serious about a career in cybersecurity or IT, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for reputable, accredited training. My experience at CDI was a waste of time and an opportunity cost — something no student should have to endure.
