Unacceptable treatment of animals

After footage released last year showed workers at farms supplying milk to Davidstow Creamery caught engaging in serious animal abuse, including hitting, kicking, using sharp objects on cows, and using farm equipment to forcefully mistreat them.

This shows a complete lack of care for animal welfare, with profit prioritised over proper treatment. As a consumer, I won’t be purchasing from this company.

A bloody disgrace.

URGENT ANIMAL WELFARE CONCERNS

I am horrified by the videos currently circulating online showing alleged abuse at farms supplying Cathedral City.

The level of violence shown is vile. Footage appears to show cows being struck, aggressive handling, and calves left deceased in close proximity to visibly distressed mothers. If accurate, this is not a minor welfare lapse,it is a profound moral and management failure.

A reported two-week suspension and retraining is inadequate in response to conduct of this gravity. Where such behaviour occurs, the issue is not just training it is culture, oversight, and accountability.

Until there is full transparency and meaningful consequences, I will not be purchasing Cathedral City products again and neither will my family.

Red Leicester packaging issue

Cathedral city mature cheddar is fine. Cathedral city Red Leicester has excellent flavour and texture but has a significant packaging problem. Reported this to the manufacturer but just opened the third successive pack where the seal pulled away from the packaging making it impossible to reseal. Never happens with the cheddar and is a problem the manufacturer needs to resolve.

As of January 2026 I can no longer give…

As of January 2026 I can no longer give cathedral city cauliflower cheese (Iceland verity) a 5 star review. The price has gone up and the quality has gone down. I was once able to value this product as it was 3 forb£10, now it is 2 for £8. OK, if the product stays the same, it has not. The product has 50% less than before and is tasteless in comparison. I will no longer be purchasing your products.

Supporting animal abuse. Boycott this company

Avoid this company. They source their dairy products from Polshea Farm who have committed horrendous animal cruelty, seemingly for the amusement of their workers more than anything else. Disgusting. The evidence is there on Youtube, although these abusers keep trying to get the footage removed rather than own up to their crimes and commit to improving standards. Typical of the way this post-truth world works. Why own up to something when you can just keep denying it and hope people forget about it.

Not recommended

After watching the investigations by the brave animal activist Joey Carbstrong, it is clear that Cathedral City is sourcing milk from farms involved in horrific animal cruelty. The videos and research exposed the immense suffering inflicted on cows, including the forced separation of mothers and their calves shortly after birth, an outdated and inhumane practice driven purely by profit. The public deserves honesty and transparency, and now the truth has come to light.
