Food poisoning
Hello, I just got back from a 10 night all inclusive at catalonia costa mujeres, Mexico and would like to bring to your attention that my girlfriend and I got food poisoning on our second day. We were sick in our rooms for one and half days. We called the reception and guest services to no help or concern on their end. They said go see the doctor and pay. The other reason for this complaint is because it was food poisoning running through the entire hotel, many guests got affected, as we heard them taking about it everywhere you went. There is also a Facebook group page of this hotel and i invite you to go read the comments and see how many hotel guests were affected by this food poisoning which from my experience was really scary and dangerous. I was not able to trust the food after this, was limited in what to eat to stay safe. Once feeling better I went to the reception with the Air Canada vacations represent alan barrera to speak to the manager by the name of Sandra. Totally disrespectful person towards the situation, she laughed at me saying that she lives at the hotel for last 3 months and never got sick and that i was the only one that was affected which is not true as i mentioned we heard lots of people at the resort being sick and from the Facebook group page of the hotel. I felt scared and disregarded throughout this situation as the hotel did not want to acknowledge the issue. We are talking about a person's health, the matter was not taken serious by the hotel. Guest services were of no help and air Canada vacations representative at the hotel was remaining neutral and looked afraid of the hotel staff.
Dissappointed guestsWe stayed at catalonia oro negro in…
OWe stayed at catalonia oro negro in tenerife the cleanliness of hotel is awful we only had 1 change of clean sheets for a 3 week stay there was dust on top of fridge the cleaners were only there less than 5 minutes a time clean towels were another issue guests should not have to ask for clean sheets and towels the other problem was we were put on floor 5 my partner has mobility problems so we asked to move yes we were moved but 174 steps away from reception and the dress code for the restaurant was not always adhered to my partner was let in one night with a top that had no sleeves the next night he went down with a similar top on and was refused entry all staff should adhere to the dress code at all times we stayed at this hotel 2 years running with no problems but it seems to have developed these issues from 12 months ago the other issue is the rooms need updating the bathrooms are so small and it is hard to get in and out of bath if you have mobility problems we requested a room with walk in shower did not happen
Avoid!
HOTEL PUNTA DEL REY TENERIFE
The more I experienced this hotel, the more I noticed many negative service issues, very poor standards of cleanliness and maintenance, and also most alarming safety issues. The standard of buffet food was very poor, not hot at the buffet and I heard of a few incidences of guests having food poisoning. Rather alarming, so I decided to stick to vegetarian where possible. A good move I think! However a loss of enjoyment.
The lunch option was even worse! If you like junk food, pizza, undercooked burgers, frankfurter hot dogs, chips etc. you were fine (albeit not hot and food also available for flies) The lunch was eaten using paper plates with disposable cutlery! (Shocking). Each day, I managed to put together a cheese (processed type) and tomato roll, pretty poor again! There was a very small plate of fruit and some yoghurts. I ended up buying food from the local supermarket for lunch, I do not eat junk food. My booking was all inclusive so I did not expect to have to subsidise this, the drinks apart from Wine & Cava were very cheap versions. Fortunately, I knew that the local wines were good, so there was some positive here! Unfortunately, most of the time the drinks (hot and cold) had to be consumed from paper cups which is not enjoyable. It was only in Restaurant or main bar that a glass or proper coffee/tea cup was provided. I was surprised by this as the hotel is advertised as "green & fair"- a massive amount of paper cups and plates everywhere!
All communal areas were over filled with guests and it was never easy to get a chair and as for sunbeds, there was only one day where I was successful getting a sunbed which was over the road at the second pool area. I gave up and used my balcony to sunbathe. I soon realised that despite a notice at the pool, guests were easily allowed to reserved sunbeds with towels, all out at 0800! However, the sunbeds at the main pool were disgusting! Dirty and poorly maintained so having seen them, I would not have used them anyway. There were no designated smoking areas outside so it was difficult to avoid cigarette and vape smoke in the outdoor areas. The pool at the main area was poorly maintained and absolutely freezing, hardly anyone used it. I used it once.
It would be good for future guests to be advised also that you need to pay a 30 euro deposit for a pool towel from reception. I only found this out from over hearing a conversation. Fortunately, I had brought my own!
The noise levels at this hotel are the highest I have ever experienced, loud music was playing all day in the main pool area, then, if there were activities involving music, quite often the piped music would still be playing over the music for the activity. Music/entertainment would continue until around 2200, my room was above it all. Having a pool/sea view certainly had its negatives, on this occasion, there was clearly a price to pay! There was a general hum of voices, music and to top it all, the lorry would come to empty the recycling bins each morning at around 0730, this was just below my balcony in the road that runs adjacent to the side of the hotel.
It was actually impossible to have any quiet time from 0730 until very late at night.
The general maintenance standards were very poor and sometimes worrying, exposed wired electrical sockets that I noticed (highly likely that there were more like these), lift emergency phone, decor, pavement area. Having seen the electric sockets, I did not have much confidence in the safety standards. Each time I used the lift, it was nerve racking as there was a thud at each floor stop!
I was directed to the beach by the rep. As you get to the first stretch of the beach, there is a disused, derelict hotel, waste pipes running into the sea and a view of the, what I think is a desalination plant! The beach is not very sandy, mainly large pebbles/boulders, and the seabed is also slippery pebbles so difficult to get in for a swim. Why on earth would anyone want to use this beach while on holiday!? It gets slightly better the further you go away from the hotel, but it is never very nice. I totally accept the black volcanic rock etc. However, the beach is advertised as black sand!
My experience at this hotel has been totally disappointing, frustrating and not enjoyable. I incurred further costs as booked onto trips so as to avoid time spent there.

Just had a wonderful stay in the Catalonia catedral hotel Barcelona. Location is excellent for all the sights & activities in the gothic area, also perfect base for Barcelona Marathon. The staff led by Alex, Pablo & Fami were excellent great advice and help throughout our stay. Highly recommend using this hotel with all its connections for a great way to explore Barcelona.
Terrible Experience
Terrible Experience – Items Stolen, No Full Compensation, and Poor Customer Service
I am absolutely appalled by my experience at Hotel Catalonia Berlin in August 2024, and I feel compelled to share my story to warn others.
During my stay, I had personal belongings stolen from my room, including two laptops, my children’s Nintendo Switches, and several other valuable items, amounting to a total of 4,900 Euro. The reason for the theft? A hotel cleaning staff member allowed a thief to enter my room while it was being cleaned, and they stole my possessions right under the hotel's watch.
The hotel staff initially assured me that they would compensate me for the stolen items and even called the police to file a report. After I returned to my home country, I was told I had to await the outcome of the hotel’s insurance claim. However, this was a complete failure on their part, as the theft happened due to the hotel’s negligence.
Six months passed, and after constant communication with Mr. Sven Hartung, the Hotel Director, and their insurance company, I was told that the insurance was only willing to pay 1,500 Euro. After further back and forth, they raised the offer to 2,000 Euro, but that was still far below what I was entitled to. I requested that the hotel make up the difference, as it was their staff’s fault that the theft occurred. In response, Mr. Hartung offered just an additional 1,000 Euro, bringing the total to 3,000 Euro – still leaving me with a loss of 1,900 Euro.
I even offered to settle the matter by having the hotel match the insurance amount (2,000 Euro) so that I would receive 2,000 from both the hotel and insurance. This would still leave me losing 900 Euro, but I just wanted the matter to be resolved. Unfortunately, the hotel refused to meet this offer.
To make matters worse, the staff's actions directly contributed to the theft: they opened my door, spoke with the thief, allowed the thief access to my room, and simply let them take my items. For the hotel to only offer me 3,000 Euro after the theft of 4,900 Euro in property is completely unacceptable, especially when I provided all receipts for the stolen items.
I acted in good faith, was patient, and trusted the hotel to do the right thing, but this entire experience has been a nightmare. The staff and management are untrustworthy, and the hotel failed to take responsibility for their actions.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel at all costs. They will promise you everything in the moment but leave you high and dry afterward. This was a terrible, frustrating, and unfair experience.
Things to know before you book! Visited in May of 2024-Punta Cana
Visited in May of 2024, Punta Caña
Food-The food had no flavor. To get some decent food make sure to book a reservation at their restaurants. Do so with time as it books up quickly. Do it once you check in.
Room- the room smelled liked backed up sewer smell. The porch door was hard to open. The shower was small and the handheld shower head was not sturdy. The AC didn’t work as well-room felt muggy.
Beach towels- there was an entire day that this service was out of service. Had to use the same wet towel the entire day.
Customer Service at the buffet, shops and in general needs improvement. Greet and smile all your customers.
-on site Coffee shop-tell the customer the cup is extremely hot when you give it to them. I grabbed it and burnt my fingers.
Other things to improve on: open the juice shop earlier-probably the only place to get a good drink. The pizza station always ran out of pizza, make enough and keep it coming-that’s why people pay all inclusive price. The alcohol drinks all had a bad taste, tasted flat. Distasteful. Stopped ordering. The beach front had too many vendors trying to sell you things, body lotion, pictures with iguanas, parrots, jewelry, massages, hair braids, you name it. Just act like you’re sleeping or say no thank you as soon as you see them coming towards you.
-No creamer for coffee available.
-hotel check in slow and they make you leave your bags while you check in. Allow people to keep their bags with them.
Would not stay here again. Spend a little more money for a nicer place to stay-it’s well worth it. You will not regret it.
Trust Lost - My review went from a 5 to a 1 in one…
My review went from a 5 to a 1 in one hour. I arrived early, checked in, was given my wristband and to return at 3 to pickup my keys. There was no story about 200 checkouts, slow staff, disingenuous smiles and multiple returns to the front desk due to being given different times each time I returned. Meanwhile, they've been fully paid. We've been traveling since 3 a.m. and just want to get into our room. When we arrived at 1, we were told to return at 3 to get our keys ,when our room would be ready. We returned at 3 and we're told it's not ready, give it 30 more minutes. We have it 30 minutes...stood in another 15 minute long line and we're then told the room is ready....but not ready so to give it another hour. I can't trust anything they say now. Why should I return in an hour to wait in another 15-20 minute line to be told, with a fake smile, that we have to wait more. Others have their rooms. I didnt reserve a palace suite. Others all around us are checking in. Apparently the 200 plus people checkout that is delaying my room isn't affecting anyone else. Seems like it's personal. I'm sorry I came here. I should have checked trust pilot like I normally do rather than trip advisor. I've paid for a room I can't get access to until whenever and my trust level of any word that comes out of their mouths at this point is zero. Fourth time staying at resorts in Montego Bay over 5 years and this the most disorganized and disingenuous presentation. If the room is on a 2-hr. Delay then set the customer's expectations upfront. Why have them going back and fourth. Teach staff that smiling through someone's paid for frustration isn't professional - it's petty.
Upon checking in to Catalonia
Upon checking in on Dec. 20th, we had to wait for over approx 2 hours to check in. When I finally got to my room it was stuffy, musty/moldy and smelly. The ac and doorlock to the patio were broken. After placing more than 3 calls to guest services and a maintenance visit another maintenance person came and fixed the broken lock and ac. The ac unit was rusty and old and did not operate efficiently. Not to mention the blinds over the ac at the screen door, this was clearly dirty with dark stains.
The buffet had no taste and request for substitutes was ignored. I asked for almond milk as I was allergic to diary. Soy was offered but they never had any. It was suggested by a dining room staff to speak to guest services. I did so and was directed to the manager/supervisor of guest services who informed me that he would discuss this with his manager and get back to me. He took my name and room # but never contacted me. I saw him a day or so after speaking with him and reminded him that I was still waiting on him to get back to me. I even reminded him when I would be checking out and jokingly said 'Don't bring this when I am checking out' but never heard from him again. I did see him at the buffet a day before I left, but he never said anything to me and neither did I.
I also want to disclose that we saw a bug in the restroom in the lobby area and there are so many cats roaming all over the resort.
This is my second stay at this resort, but the service and upkeep of the place have deteriorated. The first time I stayed there it was named Holiday Inn. The infrastructure is badly in need of repairs and the stairs are dirty and in disrepair, as a matter of fact, the whole hotel needs a face-lift.
I stayed with my 2 adult children and 3 grandchildren for 4 days and will never stayed there again.
Avoid at All Costs
Avoid at All Costs - Catalonia Royal Bravado
Our experience at the Catalonia Royal Bravado for what was supposed to be a 4-night celebration for my wife’s birthday was nothing short of a disaster. The entire stay was riddled with deception, negligence, and outright theft, leaving us feeling unsafe and appalled.
The issues began almost immediately when we were invited to what was described as a “VIP breakfast” to celebrate my wife’s birthday. What should have been a thoughtful gesture turned into a sleazy and uncomfortable sales pitch for a timeshare. We felt duped and deeply insulted—had we been informed in advance, we could have simply declined, but this lack of transparency was unacceptable.
The worst, however, came shortly afterward. Upon returning to our room after some time on the beach, we discovered that the safe, which contained our valuables, had been opened and credit cards stolen from both of our wallets. Within just 30 minutes, the thieves attempted to charge over $10,000 to our accounts. When we reported this to the front desk, the staff’s response was shockingly dismissive. Despite being told security would come to our room immediately, no one arrived. After 20 minutes of waiting, I called again, only to be informed I had to go to the front desk myself.
What followed was a complete farce. Security finally inspected the safe and insisted on searching our room to “prove” the cards weren’t still there—even as more charges were being attempted on our accounts while they stood in the room. The lack of urgency, compassion, and basic professionalism from the hotel staff was beyond comprehension.
Since this horrific experience, I have searched online and found numerous reviews mentioning thefts at this hotel. It’s clear this is not an isolated incident. My wife’s birthday was ruined, our vacation cut short, and our trust utterly shattered.
If you value your safety, your belongings, and your peace of mind, avoid Catalonia Royal Bravado at all costs. It is absolutely not worth the risk.
Cancelled reservation last minute
Do not book here!!!
They use the same tactics again and again to cancel cheaper rates at the last minute to gain new higher prices for their rooms.
Check the reviews on Google and Tripadvisor, many customers were left stranded like these. They will say the same excuse "invalid payment method". The same method works everywhere except at their place??
unreliable and unfair
One year ago i booked a room at Catalonia Sagrada Familia. today without any notice booking was canceled unilaterally (the card I used to book was an old one, but payment was due next week). Thanks to this, I am now without an accomodation in Barcelona, and the hotel "offers" me to re-book the room paying 3 times more for the room. Thank you, this is the worst service I've ever had from a hotel in my life.
Worst customer service, ruined my proposal
I’m going to start with the good since I don’t have as much to say there.
The resort itself is beautiful, the rooms are very clean and appear to be kept up consistently. All of the staff (other than the lobby staff) were incredibly friendly and remembered us anytime we passed by. The drinks were great as long as you specified what liquor you wanted in the drink. Having access to both sides of the resort made for a good time as well! Want to party? Go to the other side. Want to relax? Stay on your side.
Now for the bad into the worst.
The food at the buffet was good for the most part and the room service food was okay. Most of the food however, is just really lacking flavor and was very bland and all around unenjoyable.
On our last night I reserved dinner at what appeared to be their most romantic/intimate restaurant only for us not to be notified that restaurant was under restoration (though it didn’t appear to be even a little) and they were temporarily hosting at their most casual (by the pool, plastic chairs) restaurant. So it took us 15-20 minutes to figure that out.
The beach would have been beautiful if there wasn’t seaweed literally everywhere. I didn’t see staff attempting to clean it until our last day there.
When I was receiving a massage with my fiance, the masseuse continually felt up into my boxers and as I speak some Spanish I hears some of the things they were speaking about me which was wildly inappropriate and made me incredibly uncomfortable.
Now this is where it gets worse.
For SIX MONTHS I was attempting to be in contact with this resort to upgrade my room and set up a private dinner on the beach at 6:30 the evening of our arrival date so I could propose to my girlfriend at sunset. Every time I emailed the resort, whether it be in English or Spanish, I never got a response. Every time I called I was hung up on within seconds of me starting to speak.
A week before we left for the trip I FINALLY got someone to not hang up on me. I was told the room I wanted was available but I could not upgrade until I arrived and would have to hope it is still available (weird). I was told for the dinner I had to be emailed a menu to choose from before setting up the dinner. They said they sent it then hung up. Never got the email. Called two more times to get the same result with the 4th call being told I should just wait until I arrive to schedule the dinner.
So we arrive and the room was available but I was overcharged for it as I’m a rewards member it should have been heavily discounted or free. Then upon booking the dinner I was told “you have to schedule that 24 hours in advance so we can’t schedule that for you tonight.” WHAT?! I was livid. It had to be that night as I had people coming to surprise her for the proposal. I went back and forth with them for 20 minutes to eventually be told “we can make an exception to book you tonight for 9pm” so I said F it and booked it. I’ll have to do the proposal before dinner. By the way, the “private” dinner is not private or really on the beach. It’s at a little tiki bar somewhat on the beach about 50-75 yards from the water and there’s at least 3-4 other tables in this small tiki bar area with you. So I’m glad I didn’t propose there.
Our room didn’t have the complimentary champagne that I was told we’d have and we didn’t have any beach/pool towels either even though our room had a private pool.
Now here’s a fun kicker with that night. The people we had coming to surprise her had their rooms booked on the other side. When they arrived they were told that their rooms wouldn’t be ready until tomorrow and they would have to find somewhere to stay until then but would still be charged?? That was a nightmare and eventually they paid to upgrade to stay on our side of the resort.
Another fun thing that happened with our friends, they were sharing a room but not all leaving the same day. When the first group left, the staff came in and grabbed ALL the bags from the room. So our friend that stayed longer had her bags taken to the airport. They had 20 minutes to board their flight by the time they got ahold of us and the lobby staff refused to own up to their mistake and wouldn’t put their ego aside for over 15 minutes before they finally called us a taxi to go get the luggage and refused to cover the cost of the $60 taxi that was their mistake in the first place.
I was double charged and overcharged for a few things on this trip and the customer service won’t even respond to my emails.
All in all the resort is pretty (minus the seaweed) but if you’re trying to come here to plan anything or relax, DONT!! I was stressed 1/2 the time due to the lobby staff. I’d recommend staying in the family side before anything but even then that’s a stretch.
Av. Andalucía, 52, Seville, 41006 Spain - don’t go
Av. Andalucía, 52, Seville, 41006 Spain is the location. Terrible room: patio door would not lock, flush handle broken, door stop screw protruding from floor, AC broken. Despite these issues, they would not change room.
**Disappointing Experience at Catalonia
**Disappointing Experience at Catalonia
Our recent stay at Catalonia Resort left much to be desired. Despite high expectations, we encountered numerous issues that significantly impacted our overall experience.
Firstly, the reservation process for restaurants was a complete debacle. Despite our efforts to plan ahead, we faced challenges securing reservations, leading to frustration and inconvenience during our stay.
To make matters worse, our room attendant, Angela, not only mishandled our belongings but also deliberately damaged our iPad and stole money from our room. When we brought these serious concerns to the attention of resort management, we were met with indifference and a refusal to take responsibility for the actions of their staff.
This lack of accountability and poor handling of our grievances further exacerbated our disappointment. We expected better from a reputed resort like Catalonia, but unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations.
In light of these issues, I cannot in good conscience recommend Catalonia Resort to fellow travelers. It's essential for management to address these systemic problems promptly to ensure the well-being and satisfaction of their guests in the future.

The room we rented is right next to a building undergoing renovation with extremely loud banging on the walls from very early morning and going on late into the evening. The hotel should not have rented this room out. We were not warned, not offered any ear plugs, a change of room or any compensation. The hotel simply claimed its not their responsibility.
The bathroom also had a strange smell and although the plug was changed on the bath it still began to drain out water before you were ready.
Do not use this hotel the management do not care about its guests

If, you book a stay at hotel and cancel it, you have to do that through website not mail, either you'll be charged full amount for the first night.

Catalonia Hotels, Ronda and Granada, a fabulous experience
We stayed at the Catalonia Hotel in Ronda a couple of years ago and had such a wonderful experience we vowed to use them on a future trip to Granada. We recently returned and if anything this experience exceeded the previous one. Check in was smooth and efficient, staff were professional and helpful and recognised our Reward Membership and upgraded us to a suite which was fabulous. The rooftop plunge pool and bar were greatly appreciated after a very hot days sightseeing at Alhambra Palace. Will definitely be staying with this boutique Hotel group again. Top tip book directly with them to get best price and immediate affiliation to the Rewards program.

arrived at Majorca airport for transfer, 60 minute's later we set off for our hotel at Catalonia del mar cala bona. 2 hours later we arrived, the pool isn't what it is in the photos, the food is a disgrace, went half board, everyone had the same problem with the food, had to go out for tea every night, all the sunbeds were taking from 7am, there is building work going one facing the hotel, no way is this a 4* more like a 2* the rooms are so dated that the paint is coming off, air conditioning unit not very good, very quiet area, 15 minutes walk to next town and beach. I'm not the type of person to put bad reviews but this one had to be done I have loads of photos about this but it's not letting me put on
