Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 13,164 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently struggled to reach support, noting that agents were unhelpful, abruptly disconnected calls, or completely failed to resolve urgent booking and refund issues. Consumers expressed deep frustration when they were left stranded during trips or forced to chase unresolved financial matters without any proper assistance from the platform. Though some customers had better experiences, they occasionally noted smooth booking processes and straightforward past reservations without any complications. A few reviewers also appreciated receiving proactive support when minor adjustments were needed or when alternative credits were successfully issued.

Friends get together ruined by booking.com & the Lion Quays Hotel

Booked a hotel room a few months ago the Lion Quays Oswestry for this weekend. Received a message from the hotel via booking.com that due to a maintenance issue I will be moved to a hotel nearly a mile away. The hotel/booking.com proudly told me it will not cost me any extra even though I was being given their ‘superior room’. I was being moved from a 4 star spa hotel with all the trappings to a hotel with no facilities, no bar nothing. The night at the quays was £190 all in. I looked at the price to book at the replacement hotel & could get a room for £74 & booking.com thought they were doing me a favour! Cut a sad story short, the Quays hotel were no help, was talking to a central help desk, couldn’t speak to the hotel direct, but telling me no alternative rooms were available. Then found out that booking.com had told the quays to move people to alternative hotels. In the meantime booking.com are still advertising rooms available at the quays, but the quays saying none available. A complete shambles by the hotel and booking.com not knowing what each is doing. A weekend where a group of friends travelling from various parts of the country were reuniting ruined because of both incompetence & not communicating.
Will never book with both again.

Garbage booking

Garbage booking. The hotel told me the a/C is down and will cancel my booking. And to contact booking .com. Hours and hours of waiting on the phone. They tell me they need written permetion. From the hotel. When they can just contact them. Wasted a whole 24 hours trying to figure it out. And still waiting.

Better to book on hotel directly. And have less headake

Dishonest customer service after last minute cancellation and refund issues

My booking was canceled a few days before arrival by the host due to double bookings (July 21st). I was promised by booking.com that any price differences between my new booking and the canceled booking would be refunded by a cash deposit in my booking.com account. When I asked for the refund: 1. the maximum amount was first changed from pounds sterling to euros (20% less), 2. an even lower amount than promised was put in my booking.com account and 3. the amount was put in a travel wallet, not a cash wallet (which means that it can't be transferred back to my bank account). Three lies in the process.

Every time I tried to contact booking.com, they were using another email account, they left out the information that was shared earlier, and many times they sent messages from a noreply email address.

Today, August 13th, I am still waiting for a reply on my last message (August 2nd). Currently >20 minutes on the phone trying to set things straight.

They keep the scam industry alive.

They keep the scam industry alive.
Isn't it strange how dishonest companies that have extremely poor ratings on review sites, manage to maintain full star ratings on booking.com. It's the ones who can't to direct business because of poor reputation that always seem to be the top result on booking.com. This company has lost it's way...

Im a level 2 genius...woeful customer experience

Im a level 2 genius and have used Booking.com for many years for many different trips.

However recently I had a terrible experience with a hotel in Italy. This was absolutely woeful, the hotel claimed we never showed up, whereas we stated to booking.com very clearly - we did show up and have pictures of the room as evidence. As a result we never received any refund despite the poor hygiene of the room and completely being unsanitary and unsafe for my wife who is asthmatic.

We rang many different people in booking.com who made false promises. Claimed we were due to receive a refund in 24hrs. But no. Instead we received nothing. We were made out to be liars and that the hotel was somehow in the right - despite lying and claiming we never showed up. Then we were hit with a 100 euro mobile bill for ringing them.

They also blocked my number and prevented me from calling further.

Booking com is woeful. They don't care about the customer and would rather protect despicable hotel managers who engage in fraud.

Despicable and would never advise anyone to use booking.com

I'm now 1,100 euro out of pocket with absolutely zero support from booking.com.

Booking.com took my £300 deposit.

Booking.com took my £300 deposit and now refuses to help

I booked Property in Skegness through Booking.com .
After booking, the property contacted me asking for a £300 security deposit.
I checked with Booking.com customer service first and they advised me to pay it. So I paid.

It’s now been over 1 month and I have still not received my deposit back.
I have contacted Booking.com multiple times. They have not taken this seriously and have done nothing to help me get my money back.

Booking.com told me to pay the deposit, but now won’t take responsibility when the property won’t refund it.
They take their commission but offer zero customer protection.

Do not trust Booking.com with your money. 1/5 stars

I made a Hotel booking

I made a Hotel booking, I cancelled the booking in advance free of charge, They billed my debit card $1,214.64 although the cancellation was done free of charge 6 week ago. Then they start giving me a hard time for I to get my funds return to my account, asking me for bank statement, I produced a transaction record, showing the withdrawal with all the pertitnent details showing they made the withdrawal, that was not enough, like if I am the culprit, and they are the victim. I made numerous phone calls (total over 4 hours also the calls were cut off and they never call back), they ask for the first 6 and last four digits of my debit card (given). No refund, I am now going through my Bank to deal with this issue, Today is the 13th, my account is in the red, I have upcoming bills to pay, and this is what I have to go through, I am the culprit. Be aware when doing business with Booking.com. I will never use this third party booking service again.

My stay history was deleted

After using booking.com for a long time, this last time, I received a post stay charge from the hotel. Booking.com prepaid the total of my stay July 26 - 29 July 19, as including all taxes and fees. The confirmation specifically said that if anyone tried to charge us in addition, to contact them. Hutchinson Island Plaza Hotel was upfront with their Parking fee of $15/night. They said it was supposed to have been mentioned in our confirmation with booking.com. I looked again carefully and no such information was there. I couldn't cancel my stay because it was already paid.
After my stay, I contacted booking.com about the issue. after requiring copies of the bill/receipt from the hotel and not providing an answer, I reached out to them about it. They said that the additional fee was written on the confirmation and I should send them proof on not mentioning of this on the confirmation.
I felt 100% scammed, when I went back to my history of bookings and the Hutchinson Hotel stay was deleted.
So consumers beware, print out the confirmation completely because in a dispute, they will delete the proof.

Poor hotel inventory and no transparency

The hotels in their inventory have no customer service sense at all. I reserved a hotel in India for three nights but had to change to one night due to personal emergencies. They charged me half of the original cost of 3 nights for 1night citing the reasons that their reservations are non-refundable. The hotel management said that they were losing one night cost. Then where does that extra 30% they charged me go? Beware of these traps. I was literally yelled at by the hotel management guy because I requested for cancellation! They rip you off. Stay away. I’d rather go to Airbnb which is transparent and reliable although a little expensive.

Booking.com failed to honour its Price…

Booking.com failed to honour its Price Match Policy — extremely disappointing experience.

I needed two rooms at the same hotel for the same dates, room type and facilities. I booked one room through Booking.com and the second room through Trip.com, which offered the same booking at a lower price.

I actually stayed in both rooms — one booked through Booking.com and the other through Trip.com — so there was no question about the bookings being genuine or comparable.

I provided Booking.com with all the original booking confirmations, receipts and supporting documents. To take this matter to the fullest possible extent, I even provided my Trip.com account details, including my username and password, so their team could log in and independently verify the booking and price themselves. I believe I went far beyond what any customer should reasonably be expected to do to prove a legitimate Price Match claim.

Despite all this, Booking.com's support team failed to properly assess the evidence and did not honour the Price Match Policy they advertise. What is even more disappointing is that, despite repeatedly communicating with their support team and providing everything they requested, they were unable to take any meaningful action or fulfil their commitment.

This has been an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience. A company should stand behind the policies it advertises, especially when a customer provides complete and verifiable evidence.

Booking.com — you have seriously let me down.
