Overall a pleasant experience with CEA
Overall a pleasant experience with CEA. The staff were friendly and willing to help and I really enjoyed getting to know them. The elective itself was interesting, and it was a good way to gain clinical exposure overall.
However, some of the advertised specialties on the website are not actually available, and the clinics are arranged via a booking system, with only select specialties available including general surgery, nephrology, general medicine, obs&gynae and sports medicine, with a maximum of 1-2 people per clinic. As an aspiring surgeon, theatre time was important to me, however this wasn't readily available and had to be specially arranged, so it's worth considering. However, it's to be noted that the staff were extremely accommodating and worked very hard to make that happen for me, so it was extremely appreciated.
The country itself is of course beautiful and teeming with amazing wildlife and nature. With over 30 islands that make up SVG, you can explore many nearby, like Bequia, which has beautiful white sand beaches and great food and bars. Also, CEA arranged an all expenses paid Tobago Cays trip and Sunset cruise, both of which were highlights for me as we got to swim with turtles, starfish, stingrays, and dolphins swam beside our boat.
Furthermore, you can arrange for excursions to waterfalls, the volcano, 'La Soufriere', salt ponds etc, with a wonderful gentleman named Tucker who was an amazing guide to all of those places and has a tangible, refreshing passion for nature (he also taught me how to swim!).
Overall, I'd recommend going, especially if you want a more relaxed vibe, however clinically, it might need improvement if you are able to immerse yourself into the medicine.
