Beware cancellation charges! …

Booking system fairly straight forward and plenty of choice. However beware the cancellation charges if you are unable to go any longer. 9 months notice and charged over £300 cancellation charge. Will not be using Camptoo again

This cancellation charge however is based on the cancellation policy that was selected by the owner of the vehicle. This is also what you have explicitly agreed upon by checking a box when doing the downpayment for the booking.

Summertons campervan holiday

Compact, all facilities met our requirements. Van easy to drive, no issues whilst on the road. Additional annexe great for extra storage,. Booking process easy, no issues with the processing. Van owner Margaret provided excellent Van information etc. impress with all aspects of hiring of the van through Camptoo. thank you.

Camptoo is terrible to deal with ...

Camptoo is terrible to deal with and I'd stay well away from them.

On one evening we searched Camptoo and hired a campervan for 4 nites. We did this 6 months ahead of the date we'd hire the van. We chose this van because its pickup was stated to be in Melbourne. I even liaised with the van owner to confirm that and told her that we were heading west for a quiet 4-day weekend at a friend's farm 170 km east of us.

Once I hit the booking button and paid my deposit of $321 Camptoo emailed me their contract advising pick up was 250 KM's away east from us in central Melbourne (the opposite direction we were traveling. That meant that we'd have to spend a full day out of our 4 days and 500 km just to collect the van, which then meant that of the 600 KM free travel we'd have spent 500 km. the same applies to the van's return.

As soon as I read this I contacted the van owner. She was very sympathetic and agreed that the booking was erroneous and should be canceled immediately without penalty, and she asked me to call Camptoo to arrange it.

That's when the nightmare began. Camptoo has no physical office in Melbourne, just a post box. The person who takes Captoo's calls is a woman calling herself a customer happiness officer or some such ridiculous title she doesn't live up to. She was arrogant, condescending, as bureaucratic as can be, and just kept repeating that it was all my fault, they'd refund me the $140 payable to the van owner but retain the remaining $200 as their cancellation fee.. No amount of persuasion or logic made an iota of difference and she hung up on me and blocked my future calls.

On further research, I learned that Camptoo's general manager is one 'Carla Dichiera', but Camptoo's website doesn't disclose any of her contact points or that of its company director or officers many of whom reside overseas anyway. Good luck finding Dichiera's email or mobile number elsewhere.

At this point, it was becoming obvious that I'd been had. I, therefore, instructed solicitors to take over.

After I made a legal threat to issue civil proceedings against Camptoo, at first they dragged their feet and finally when the deadline for me issuing proceedings arrived Camptoo offered me a full refund.

Then, Camptoo started to prevaricate again, this time refusing to be specific as to when the refund would be paid, or why it would take so long, or where they'd pay it.

Eventually, about 2 weeks later I received a full refund, of course with no apology for their disgusting service and attitude.

So, folks, as you can see from my experience this company was horrible to deal with and completely unreliable.

Another point to be aware of, which I checked with the van owner, is that Camptoo charges an insurance excess of $1500 per incident. The van owner doesn't have anywhere near that high excess, it's negligible. In other words, if the hirer has an accident, Camptoo pays a small portion of the $1500 to the insurer ad retains the bulk of the $1500 itself. That's a scam. I will be reporting it to Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Watch out for the insurance policy!

We had a terrible experience with this company after I had a minor accident with the camper van we had hired. First they assured me that all I needed to do was inform them and pay an excess of £130 . Weeks later they contacted me to tell me that I needed to contact their insurance company direct. Then it turned out that we weren't insured at all, as we hadn't filled out the right form. It turns out that although they nominate an insurance company and take the money for insurance from you they don't actually activate the policy for you. Getting information out of them was nigh on impossible and no-one appeared to fully understand their own system worked. In the end we had to pay £1600 for the damage we had caused. Very poorly thought out system and a badly run company. Avoid.

Great service

Camptoo have been managing bookings for our collection of Motorhomes and Campervan's. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Really pleased with their fantastic service and simple booking platform. Keep up the top work guys.

Such a bad experience with this company…

Such a bad experience with this company and the owners of the campervan we rented. The owners were rude and obnoxious talking to us like we are stupid. Then they added ridiculous surcharges on which is more than the deposit we left. Which they returned to me then took it back. when I disputed this asking why they just took it out of my account which left me short for my bills they didn't give me much back today when I asked them why they are taking more they're trying to justify this with more made up terms and conditions if I were you I would avoid this company as they're money orientated and not customer orientated they do not care at all what I say and how I dispute a £250 cleaning bill when I returned the van clean and had already paid a cleaning fee within the price of rental. I WOULD AVOID AT ALL COST... If you don't want to be ripped off.

We hired our campervan through Camptoo and it was terrible

We hired our campervan through Camptoo for 4 nights, and collected it from the owner in Patna, Ayrshire. We drove to our destination and immediately couldn't get the heating or hot water to work, with several error messages on the screen. We contacted the owner who told us that we had pressed too many buttons and it would reset itself after 15 minutes. After several attempts to get it to operate, we never got it to work.
When we collected the vehicle the fresh water level was 75% despite the owner saying that she had filled it. As we had no hot water, we only used the water for filling the kettle and washing dishes. After 3 days the water ran out, and when we went to fill it, discovered that the hose was missing the tap adapter to allow us to fill up. We decided at this point to return home early, and while the fresh water said 0% and the waste also saying 0%, when we went to the waste grid to see what happened, the waste water ran out for over 5 minutes. We returned the vehicle and despite sending photos of the errors to the owner, she insisted that the vehicle was fine, and therefore would not be giving us any compensation. We contacted Camptoo but they basically said that any refund would have to come from the owner and not them, so really we would have to take her to court to get any kind of compensation. We were offered a £50 voucher from Camptoo, but after this terrible experience, we are not planning to use them again, or indeed recommend them to others either.

one stop motorhome rental

such a wide variety and well presented the only rental site you need. Very easy to use and booking simple. All correspondence was efficiently dealt with. On top of this they sent reminders and helpful advice as booking dates approached very useful. Would use them again.

Beautiful site.

My first time in a campervan and it was great. The site was excellent. The owners were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The description was spot on. Camptoo have plenty choice of sites and the booking is quick and simple. Very responsive. I will definitely use them again.
