While preparing to travel back to my home country for a round of routine medical check-ups, I submitted several pre-approval requests literally on my way to the airport. To my surprise and relief, the responses from the Bupa team were almost immediate. The speed and efficiency of the approval process were truly impressive.

Our company has been with BUPA Global for more than 6 years. At the time when we were offered, we specifically asked how were rates adjusted annually and we wanted to make sure that the rates were not adjusted based on claim ratio. Your marketing at that time assured us that the rate of all members has been throughout many many years based on age group and the rates would not be prejudiced by the amount of any of the members claim. In other words, all worldwide members of Bupa Global have the same standard renewal rate for the same age group no matter what their claim ratios are. So we joined BUPA. But that policy suddenly has changed 2 years ago without notice, our group renewal rate has been added an extra loading rate 15% in addition to the standard renewal rate solely because one of our members has an accident that broke her hip, and our claim ratio for that year has increased much more than usual as she needed a surgery. We have pleaded to Bupa Global many times to review thru the Bupa insurance broker but in vain. We could not reach directly to Bupa Global officials. We have asked for an explanation to this new addition of extra 15% loading rate policy as this is not what we agreed upon when we first signed in to Bupa Global. Further, we have never been informed much earlier, we only knew when we received the invoice which were about 3 weeks before our renewal date. We also asked what are the basis for the calculation to reach the extra 15% and what is the number of the claim ratio. What formula that BUPA use, there is no transparency in the calculation of the extra 15% at all. As such, how could we ever know if when our claim ratio has gone down, how much are we expecting the reduction of the loading rate. This is unfair and not transparent at all. We are very much disappointed. We hope to reach BUPA representatives directly thru this review.
