The cost was pretty reasonable and there were no hidden charges like some suppliers.

I hired a chopsaw for a job 2 days in advance. Got a call to say they didn't have it in store, but could get it from Salisbury on the morning of hire. You would think that that would be about 9am latest, or earlier, as if you hire it for a day, then you want it for the day.
I hired a subcontractor for the day to help with the work, as I knew the saw was heavy, and the work required 2 men.
I rang the branch at 0846 to find out what sort of time we could collect the saw. I was told that the driver was on his way to Salisbury.
We managed to find something else to do meantime, luckily, then we went to the branch at 1030. They told us another half an hour for the driver to come back, so we went to see a customer nearby for 45 minutes, returning to the station at 1115. The driver came back at 1130. We loaded the saw into my van, but noticed that there was no blade on the saw. I queried this inside the branch, and they didn’t have one to fit. We had to then go to Toolstation and purchase a blade for about £42. We then went to the site and set up the bench and saw. We fitted the blade. Then when setting out the calibration, it became obvious that the backstop on the saw was broken, and would not hold an angle square. Well, I thought, we’ve come this far, let’s see if we can soldier on somehow. We set up the 90degree angles, then went to spin the saw to check the 45degree cut. The cutting plate was seized onto the base plate. We did manage to move it with some effort, but at this point I did not want to risk cutting precise angles on expensive kitchen cornices. We returned the saw to the shop.
The chaps in the shop gave me an instant refund, once they had seen the issues. I also removed the new blade, which luckily I managed to return to the shop.
So, all in all, this was not a good day. By the time I finished messing about back and forth, there was no time to find another saw and complete the job. I have to pay my subcontractor for the day. I will go without my fee for the day. I have hired from Brandon before and never have I had an issue. I can only hope that this is an isolated occurrence. The saw with no blade was useless. It obviously had not been used for a while, and certainly not been checked before being sent from Salisbury.
I must say the staff in the Alma Rd branch were as helpful as they could be under the circumstances, and none of this was their fault. Customer service a few days ago in helping to organise the hire was good too. They gave me a clear choice whether I wanted a refund or not, and with my subcontractor booked in for Thursday I was very pleased that someone had taken an interest in ringing me for an update instead of just cancelling the order. So, I’m not sure what we can all learn from this experience! But we must take something away.

This was the first time I used Brandon hire station, excellent Bournemouth service (as well as getting the items coming from the Christchurch branch. I was working on a tall window that went up to the second floor ceiling on our stairs, so hired a stairwell platform for a week. I shopped around and Brandon had exactly what I needed at a good price. 800mm wide platform. To have it delivered and picked up was very reasonable and I couldn’t have fitted in the car. Also the platform was sourced from Christchurch branch Eric would have been a 45min trip. friendly person who dropped off was excellent. Ordered on Tuesday, delivered bright and early Thursday. Picked up one week later exactly as emailed etc. will use again when needed.

Absolutely rubbish. Why have an online booking system if it doesn't actually mean you have reserved an item that you want to hire.
