Be cautious buying electrical fittings
I'm refurbishing the the house & bought lighting to match the age & style of the house (order #36211, Dec 2024). The build has taken a long time due to a number of unforseen issues, so have only recently discovered the issue below, but the website is unchanged.
I bought 4 sets of old-fashioned industrial style copper lights which came with spun copper shades, solid brass bayonette fittings (with a cord stop), cloth wrapped cable, and solid brass ceiling roses (without cord stop).
The products seemed to be excellent quality, however, my Electrician wouldn't fit them as the rose [antique-cast-metal-ceiling-rose-for-pendant-shade] didn't meet building regs because there was;
1. no ceiling fixing kit supplied (or available on the website)
2. no way to take the lamp weight off the wiring connection
3. no earthing point physically connected to the metal rose
4. no space for a double earthed 'chocolate block' for wiring
5. no cord stop or cord protection as part of the rose
I contacted Bowley&Jackson to ask about supplying the above, but they didn't answer my emails.
Modifications to the rose to meet the standards weren't feasibe, so I've wasted money & have had to find an alternative product that does.
I'm really disappointed, because it's the only rose that aesthetically matches what I'm doing with the room, and can't find anything similar.
Trading Standards have been notified.
Wipe clean table cloth- perfect !

Dire customer service
I purchased two polished copper lampshades and when they arrived they had black marks all over them. I emailed the company regarding a refund or replacement and I got a response asking if I would like a courier to collect the lampshades and that a replacement would be possible. I responded with the date that would be best for collection and then I heard nothing for two weeks. I did send another email asking for a further response/update, but I heard nothing. My husband then phoned as I was getting nowhere, and he was told that I should have received a return slip via email ( which I hadn't). The man he spoke to said he would email out the slip and the courier would be there on the next working day. The slip did come by email, but no courier arrived. After two days my husband called again and was told he could just take the parcel to a yodel drop off point, which he did ( clearly no courier had been arranged!). We then called to find out of they had received the return a few days later. They had received it and told my husband they would call back that day regarding a replacement. They didn't call. So my husband called the following day and was told, very aggressively, that they would send out replacements in a few days and that they didn't have to deal with him as they should only be dealing with the purchaser. My husband had been direct but not aggressive and the owner had been repeatedly aggressive in his tone. This seems to be a common theme when I look at other reviews of the company. Perhaps they are different with in store customers but for online customers their customer service is horrendous and they clearly don't know how to talk to customers. I eventually received an email with a refund notification and no mention of replacements. It took 6 weeks to get that response.
I bought shelf brackets
I bought shelf brackets. They never arrived. Had to chase up the order and get a refund which I’m still waiting 10 days for!
Really Happy with the Service
I ordered some lovely cast iron shelf brackets and the quality of them is superb. Exactly what I need for putting up my live edge wooden shelves. I just want to mention the great service i have received. There was an issue with the shipping of the items. When i called the store to check to see what was happening, the gentleman on the phone was very helpful and assured me he would look into it. The day after i called, the brackets arrived! When i called the store to let them know, they told me that they had sent out more brackets on a next day delivery and they would sort out whatever the issue is with the courier in the meantime. That is 10/10 service in my opinion. Super chuffed. Thank you :)
Avoid…
I bought a tablecloth described as "oilcloth", "wipeclean" and "withstand everyday use". This description was inaccurate and misleading. I returned the item as faulty/failing to meet description, demanding a refund of my purchase and the return postage. They did not give a full refund.

Order still not delivered - month 2
I placed an order in febuary and they didnt send it. I followed them up repeatably and the customer service has been poor, often not responding. 2 months later and they still havent sent all my order to me. I have been emailing them and calling them and they do not respond. I chose this company because it wasn't amazon and I wanted to support british business, its a real shame that the experience has been so poor.

Ordered the Antique Brass Oakham Coat hook and the product that came was completely different to the photo (but in the same vein so obviously just trying to give me a cheaper version of the product). Phoned up to tell them and they just asked me to send a return for a refund which is very annoying that I have to go out of my way to do this when they have tried to con me. I would much rather have just had a refund as that is very devious of them. Can’t also seem to write a review of the product on the website and wonder if they have made this difficult because they do this kind of thing?

I ordered the antique look toilet roll holder. There is nothing remotely antique looking about it, it’s just iron, so I contacted the company to ask for a return label. I heard nothing, so sent another email, then a third.
I finally received a voicemail on my phone, an aggressive sounding male told me he had replied, he hadn’t, and so I emailed again. I then had four emails all dated that day, not forwarded from previous dates. This company is a joke, not only are the photos and description inaccurate they have no idea how customer service works. Aggressive male phoned me, saying if I tell him what day I will be in he will send a return label?? Could this not be put in the post/emailed, I have lost the will to chase this up any further, I have a clump of iron and no refund. Rubbish.

Shelf brackets, great service
Ordered two shelf brackets, which arrived in a few days. Good solid brackets, just could do with longer screws as those supplied were not up to the job. Otherwise happy with product and company. Would order from them again.
SCAM (with a smile)
On July 2022, I ordered them four items. On receipt, I pointed out that one of the items was not conform, and sent them an email + photographs.
1. They offered to send me another one, in good condition. THIS WAS NEVER DONE.
2. Then, they offered to reimburse me. THIS WAS NEVER DONE.
3. Following this, it was agreed that they would send me another item in compensation. THIS WAS NEVER DONE.
Now, they don't answer me anymore...

Item arrived poorly packaged and poor quality and of very low quality.
Item arrived poorly packaged, damaged (whether that was from transit or not, i dont know), poor quality and not fit for purpose, certainly not fit to be a gift, as was the intention!
I emailed the same day I received to advise I wasn't happy and provided photos. Received a phone call later that day and a voicemail to call back but I am unable to talk on the phone, so emailed back to advise of this. Received a curt response back, no apology, zero customer service. Just one line saying they'll send me a label to return it. Quite shocked by the level (total lack) of service to be honest, not to mention the poor quality of the product received.
Let's see if a returns label turns up and a refund is forthcoming, but I certainly won't be ordering again. Maybe my expectations are just too high these days.
