Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers reported that the products were ineffective, with flea treatments failing to eliminate pests. A significant number of people also expressed concerns about the quality of the products, citing severe adverse reactions in their pets. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with the products, particularly the flea tablets, noting quick results and no adverse reactions in their pets. They suggested that individual pet sensitivities might explain some negative experiences.

NEVER AGAIN…

This Bob Martin rubbish should be banned!
I used it on my bunny's neck yesterday, and i found a lump in the same spot today.
So many people said that is dangerous, but our usual 'spot on' drops were unavailable so bought this poison instead.
Never again that's for sure!

We're very sorry to hear about the lump on your bunny's neck. As pet owners ourselves, we realise how worrying it can be if we see any unexplained changes in our pet's appearance or behaviour. In the unlikely event that an adverse event (akin to an allergy) is experienced after the use of one of our products, we would ask that you please contact us to report it. Our treatments are not 'dangerous', nor are they 'poison' - they are approved by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate. We would not be allowed to sell them if they weren't safe and efficacious. However, rarely, as with human medication, there can be a reaction. If you are concerned about the wellbeing of your rabbit because they are displaying any other symptoms, please seek veterinary attention. Please do get in touch with us so we can carry out an investigation. We hope your bunny is now back to their usual self.

Used Bob Martin’s—no irritation or lethargy. Some cats may just be more sensitive.

I’ve been using Bob Martin’s flea treatment for my cat and honestly, my experience has been completely fine. I didn’t notice any irritation on her skin, no unusual behaviour, and definitely no lethargy after applying it. She acted just like her normal, playful self.

I know there are quite a few negative reviews out there, but I personally think a lot of those experiences might come down to how individual cats react differently to certain medications. Just like with humans, some cats can be more sensitive or react differently, which could explain the lethargy some people mention.

Of course, every cat is different and it’s always important to monitor them after using any treatment, but in my case, I haven’t had any issues at all and would consider using it again.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback. You are absolutely right; it's a very rare occurrence for any pet to experience unwanted side effects to our treatments. Like humans, it's rare, but pets have their own allergies to medications the same as they can be allergic to certain foods. It's important to remember that any reaction is not as a result of the treatment, but how the pet has tolerated the treatment. Thank you again for sharing your feedback, it's very much appreciated.

****EDIT 11/02/2026****
Thanks for your response. I have had cats my whole life and administered this kind of treatment many times. I am very confident I applied it properly. My vet has told me to avoid Bob Martin products as, in her words, 'they don't work'.

DON'T BUY THIS POISON

DON'T BUY THIS POISON! I couldn't get an appointment with my vet for a few days to get flea treatment, and couldn't wait, so bought some liquid flea treatment for my cats. I treated 2 of them and one instantly started drooling. I kept an eye on her and came on here to see the reviews. This stuff has killed loads of animals! I instantly grabbed her, took her to the bathroom and showered it off. I am now closely monitoring the other cat. I hope he's alright. The rest of the poison went straight in the bin. You can go back years and see reviews where people's pets have died after administering this, yet Bob Martin are still selling it!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS POISON!

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that your cat has experienced any form of reaction to a product. It is a legal requirement that our products are confirmed to be safe and effective by regulatory authorities (the Veterinary Medicines Directorate etc). If our products were not safe, we would not legally be allowed to sell them. It is worth noting that very rarely, as with all pet licenced treatments and even human medicines, there may be an allergic reaction to a product. Whilst very rare, this is no different to, for example, a human allergic reaction to penicillin. For this reason all pet licenced products are continuously monitored to make sure they are safe. If you have not done so already, please report this suspected adverse reaction to our Consumer Care Team. It is also worth noting that our treatments use the same active ingredients as those sold by vets. We respectfully ask that you desist from saying our treatment '...has killed loads of animals' or that our treatments are 'poison' as this is unequivocally and categorically untrue (as proven by all relevant regulatory bodies). We sincerely hope your cat has made a swift recovery and wish you and your cats the very best for the future.

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback. We're delighted to hear you found the flea tablets to be a success. The tablets can be used as a 'quick fix' and can be used in conjunction with a spot on. The tablets themselves do not have any residual value so leave the cat's system in 24 hours. If needed, a tablet can be given daily for a few days but a spot on will also be effective when given monthly. Thank you for your kind words and head rubs for your cat 😻. If you do need any 'flea' advice, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Please be advised, the flea tablet starts to kill fleas almost immediately, however, depending on the degree of infestation, it may be necessary to treat the animal every day or every other day until the infestation is controlled. Treatment may be resumed if fleas reappear. No more than one treatment should be given per day.

The Flea Tablets do not have persistent activity (or residual value). They are a 'quick fix' and not intended for long term use. To prevent re-infestation, a suitable treatment to control immature stages of the flea life cycle is recommended. A flea infestation will not be eradicated unless there is regular treatment of the pet (ie with a monthly spot on, and treatment of the home. It is a legal requirement that we report any claims of inefficacy, so please contact our Consumer Care team to enable us to investigate.

Please avoid- my cat died

This brand killed my cat last year. I have been unable to check online for reviews etc until now because I’ve been so traumatised that she died as a result of me putting this disgusting flea treatment on her.

I will never get over it. It needs taking off the shelves. Please stay far, far away and do some research. I didn’t think this was needed in the UK on our shop shelves but I was wrong!

We are very sorry to hear about the loss of your cat. As pet owners ourselves, we understand how devastating this can be. With the information provided in your review, we are unable to find any record of this being reported to us so have requested further information. We have processes we must legally follow whereby we investigate any alleged harm to pets as a result of the use of our products. This includes consulting with your vet to obtain any medical records. Our treatments are safe in accordance with all regulatory bodies. It would be illegal to sell them if they weren't. It is very, very rare for a pet to experience a serious adverse reaction (allergy) to one of our products so we welcome the opportunity to investigate. Please also note that our products contain the same active ingredients as those sold by vets.

Review of "Clear Plus Cat Flea & Tick"

This review is regarding Bob Martin's "Clear Plus Cat Flea & Tick" spot-on treatment.

After the purchase, I read the product packaging and included information insert — twice — then administered the product exactly as instructed.

I had assumed it had done something because my cat began behaving strangely after administration and continued to do so for a number of hours.

The product information makes the claim, in no uncertain terms, that it kills adult fleas within 24 hours.

It's now approximately 36 hours after administration and there are still fleas present in my cat's fur, not all that far from the administration site.

The product failed to deliver what it claimed. This has complicated the process of treating my cat because I now have to somehow factor a dose of this product into the equation when considering next steps.

I will not be buying this product again and suggest that anyone considering it look for alternative solutions.

EDIT: Following the reply provided by the seller, I would like to add some details to my review.

1.) At the time of using the product, I was already addressing the infestation in the house quite comprehensively.

2.) This is not the first time I have addressed a flea problem and I was not naively using this product as a "one and done" solution. It was simply the most convenient product for me to obtain at the time to make my cat more comfortable and slow the growth of the infestation.

3.) My mention of factoring the use of this product into things was related to the safe treatment of my cat and nothing else (you know, exposure to unfamiliar chemicals and all that). It was not intended to imply that using this product was the only thing I had done to address the flea problem as a whole. This was, however, the first product that I had applied directly to my cat's fur as part of addressing the problem.

4.) To be clear, I opted for a product that was specifically advertised as an effective solution to kill the adult fleas currently taking up residence in my cat's fur. It failed to do this, hence my review.

5.) A day or so after the disappointment of this product, I managed to procure the same treatment I've used in the past — and would have used initially if available to me at the time — which actually did eradicate every trace of adult fleas within my cat's fur, within 24 hours (as it does every single time) — exactly as it's advertised. I'm mentioning this to demonstrate that I know what a flea treatment product which advertises itself as effective against live adult fleas actually looks like, and Bob Martin's "Clear Plus Cat Flea & Tick" is not one of them.

With these further details considered, I would like to reiterate that this product failed to deliver — when administered as directed — the result it promised in the included reading materials. For this reason, I believe this product warrants a review that accurately reflects its efficacy at doing what it says it will do.

My recommendation is that you look elsewhere for a method to treat your cat for fleas. The availability and convenience of this product is sadly, in my experience, not matched by its ability to do the job.

-

Speaking directly now to any Bob Martin representatives who may be reading this:

Please don't be so fast to suggest that the dissatisfaction of your customers is the fault of your customers. It's not a good faith way of doing business, no matter how diplomatically gift-wrapped the suggestion is. It might just be that you are actually selling people inefficient, misrepresented products and they are perfectly justified in being annoyed for having placed their trust in your brand and given you their money. Considering your shining 1.4/5 rating, I'd say you have ample suggestion that maybe it's not your customers' fault.

Furthermore, perhaps I'm misguided here, but I don't agree with your final suggestion that it's my responsibility to reach out to your company directly and share my dissatisfaction with your product so that you my investigate. It appears to me that it's the responsibility of a product designer/manufacturer to do this kind of due diligence *before* you begin advertising and shipping it to the public.

Food for thought...

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of the issue you are experiencing with fleas. Flea control has to be performed as part of an integrated programme, whereby the house, and any pets that may be hosts to fleas, are treated regularly, and at the same time. Remember that, as a "rule of thumb", the number of fleas on a dog or cat only represents about 1 to 5% of the total fleas in the home. That means for every one flea on the pet, there are likely to be up to 100 immature fleas (eggs, larvae and unfed adults in cocoons) around the house. As this is the case, it is not sufficient to use a spot on without also treating the home. We recommend having a look at the advice on our website. As our products are regulated by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate we would not legally be permitted to sell them if they were deemed ineffective. It is important that if you have used the appropriate products correctly and still feel as though you do not have the expected result, that you contact us so we can investigate further. Many thanks.
