Very average experience and very average food but a great location

This is a great hotel great location. However we decided to have Sunday Lunch on Easter Sunday. Granted they were busy but the staff fell a long way short of good service .
Quite unprofessional in my view with obvious little proper training. The lunch itself was very average all over cooked veg although the meats were good and the carver was very good.

Use the restaurant 5 or 6 times a year…

Use the restaurant 5 or 6 times a year for a snack lunch. Had the parfait starter many times before, always well presented and excellent value for money. Today l had the duck parfait special. Plenty of parfait but only 1 tiny slice of gluten free bread, no coleslaw or side salad and the chutney was a teaspoon of orange sauce! An inch of lettuce and just half a thin slice of cucumber . Nothing like the normal standard so very dissapointed

Went for a carvery with a group of 14

Went for a carvery with a group of 14. Table booked for 2pm. We had to approach staff several times to take an order.
Most of us had a carvery. The nut roast was not good, food Luke warm, I had to ask for vegetarian gravy. After waiting 10 minutes it arrived. The roast potatoes tasted like yesterday’s rewarded. Not impressed won’t be returning for food.

We love Berry Head

We love Berry Head

But the sandwich today was poor

The baguette was either stale or rewarmed too much.

The waitress noted that I'd left the baguette untouched and asked if everything was OK

I told her that it wasn't edible but nothing was done about it

It won't stop us going again but I won't be ordering a sandwich again

inconsiderate staff

The barman spilt a tray of our coffees over me as he passed them over the pumps I was soaked and my wrist was scolded. He did apologise. I moved from the bar which was flooded with hot coffee to a table to join my husband. My blouse and skirt were wet. I had to ask for something to dry myself and clothes. Eventually I was tossed a bar rag. The barman plonked another tray on the bar and had the audacity to ask me cash or card? (Bearing in mind my cash which was on the bar was soaked). I was shaken and felt like an inconvenience. I said “neither, you’ve just tipped boiling drinks over me” I had to return home to get changed and put something on my scolded wrist. I am retired and don’t like to make a fuss but the lack of common courtesy in this establishment ensures we will not return.

Don’t bother to book it means nothing.

Don’t bother to book they don’t take any notice. We live in Brixham and have been to the patisserie for a meal at least 18 times in the last year and a half usually in a group of 6 or more as fiends regularly visit. We booked for Saturday just gone at 8.15 pm for six people. We arrived on time only to be told they were sorry but they were full. We explained that we had booked but we’re informed that it didn’t matter as they were full. We were told we could eat in the restaurant instead and have the same menus. We declined as we have eaten in there before and it is a large formal room with no atmosphere. We will probably not take guests there again as it is just embarrassing. I would rather give our custom and tips elsewhere. Such a shame they cannot get their act together. They need a manager who knows what they are doing.
I have to say we have generally enjoyed the meals there apart from one disaster where I was served a cold steak full of gristle with the wrong veg and the most disgusting watered down peppercorn sauce, I reported it to the staff but they just shrugged and did nothing. One bad experience can be forgiven but sorry not two.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel

I booked a double room here for 2 nights, the hotel is ideally located with stunning sea views, unfortunately that is where the positives end. There were no disabled parking bays, well there are but they are cordoned off for coaches, the hotel is very tired, peeling paint cracks in the walls and rotting window frames.
The double room was tiny, the windows wouldn't open and poorly stocked with comestibles, 1 sachet of Nescafe coffee, 1 tea bag, 1 sachet hot chocolate, 2 pods uht milk, no bath robes or slippers, the bathroom was equally tired and poorly stocked, 1 microscopic piece of soap , 1 shampoo, towels had seen better days.
The bar was staffed by poorly trained and very scruffy staff who couldn't care less about their customers, no de caff tea or coffee, I was told there were no cream teas even though plenty of people were eating them, tea eventually arrived with no spoons when I asked for some I was brought wooden stirring sticks.
Breakfast was just as bad, the table was dirty and still had food on it from a previous meal, who knows how long the dead fly had been there, the floor was covered in crumbs, the tea and coffee were cold, the scrambled eggs were pale and tasteless and I suspect made from powdered egg.
I could go on but I wouldn't want to bore you.
How the owners have the nerve to advertise it as a 4 star hotel is beyond me, it's clearly misrepresentation.

Daughter’s wedding venue.

Daughter’s wedding venue.
The staff were brilliant over the two days we were there. We couldn’t have asked for more from any of the Team. Everyone we met were very friendly , helpful and always helped without hesitation.
Thank you so much

Spectacular views of the bay

I haven’t stayed at this hotel, but have dined here recently.
In summer the views of the bay from the outside terrace are spectacular, food and beverage are good and of a reasonable cost considering the fabulous location.
Staff are friendly and polite and there is relaxing background music.
There are disabled parking bays and it is dog friendly.

Absolutely stunning!! A hidden gem!!

We choose last minute to stay in the new apartments (a couple with one dog). It was a very last minute decision but the best we’ve ever made. From the minute we arrived all the day were accommodating. The lady on the front desk (Kay I think but may be wrong) was so friendly, helpful and again so accommodating. Jack came and brought a welcome pack and a breakfast pack (bread, butter, coffee etc). They made sure the hearing was on for us and told us if we need anything to call them. We then ordered room service to our apartment; the food was outstanding and the waitress was so helpful. And then a beautiful and peaceful night sleep with the enormous view of the sea. Truthfully I didn’t want to write a review due to how nice this please is as I would love to keep it for myself but I want everyone to know how beautiful this please is. We will most certainly be returning in the near future.

Wonderful hotel

We found this hotel by chance as we were staying in another hotel in Brixham where we were not happy. The reception staff at Berry Head could not have been more helpful. The room had a brilliant view and was very comfortable as were the beds. We stayed three nights and ate in the restaurant. The restaurant and bar staff were all very good and the chef very talented indeed; exquisite food. We loved the grounds and views. It really couldn't have been a better few days. Full marks from us and we will certainly return.

Rowdy wedding venue Not 4 Star hotel

Rowdy wedding venue Not 4 Star hotel

On arrival the reception staff were not friendly and you felt that your were a inconvenience for them, when we came back after visiting Brixham that evening again the receptionist didn’t even look up or smile at us!, walking to our room along the first floor landing with floor boards creaking it was like being in the house of horrors, on entering our double room we found it was two single beds pushed together not the double room we had booked, the room and bathroom was like stepping back into the sixties with a shower curtain over the bath!! How 4star is that?, we weren’t told there was a wedding reception that evening when booking what is marketed as a quiet hotel set in its own grounds and the disco went on late into the night, we then had the drunken wedding guest shouting and rampaging the landings into the early hours!!
A travel inn would be of better quality and modern compared to this rundown so called 4 Star hotel with miserable staff

Perfect afternoon.

Excellent. It was a birthday treat. We went on sunday 5th January 20. The piano man was playing the sitting room/dining room was busy, but not too busy, found alovely little spot in the corner 2 very comfortable blue sofas. Ordered tea for 3. It was an absolute pleasure to be able just to sit relax, talk and admire the beautiful view of the bay. On our second round of a pot of tea we ordered scones. They came within 10 minutes, beautifully cooked and warm so freshly baked and light perfect. If you want to while away the hours this is the place, warm relaxing, and lovely staff. It's not the most modern of places, but still clean and comfortable. Thank you for alovely afternoon, we shall return soon.

Just come back from a three night stay…

Just come back from a three night stay with friends at the Berry Head Hotel in Brixham. We have visited this hotel on several occasions in the past as non residents and generally have enjoyed the experience. However on this occasion as residents both we and our accompanying friends were to say the least quite disappointed. We had booked well over a month in advance informing them it was our intention to bring our small dog with us, we were informed that this was no problem and with the additional charge of £30 for our stay, and we would have to have breakfast in a separate area, which we had used before. We had absolutely no problem with these arrangements and finalised our booking. However on the first morning of our stay we met with some very poor service and staff who could have not cared less wether we were there or not. We waited at a bare table not even a cup had been layed for the four of us, we sat and waited for some considerable time and were completely ignored as no staff were allocated to this area it would appear. We had to search out a member of staff who offered a selection of toast an tea or coffee, on their return just 3 not four place settings arrived. After some considerable time we were given what as we were later informed by the duty manager "The Wrong Menu" and were told we would have to go to the other breakfast area and serve ourselves from a buffet style. Even this had problems if you wanted a poached egg it was a special order which meant waiting while the rest of our party were able to serve themselves again not without problems as one person had to wait for their breakfast to be prepared which meant the rest of us had finished what was an extremely disappointing experience. To add insult to injury when we asked for some additional butter one member of staff eventually returned with 3 SACHETS of butter duly tipping from her hand in front of my friend with the curt response "butter". We of course made straight for reception and informed them we wanted to make a formal complaint. They called a duty manager who listened to us and duly suggested the cause could have been due to some members of staff were new to the hotel. I suggested some training might be useful. But then the manager also said, after explaining we had been given the wrong menu, that the "NEW Buffet" style breakfast arrangements were being performed, and I Quote, "On A Trial and Error Basis", I was dumfounded at this remark and replied I had not paid for my arrangements on a trial and error basis. At tis point I suggested we would cancel our booking all together, but was assured that we would receive better treatment and urged not to cancel this worked fine the next morning, however not so good on our last day. I will say that the Berry Head Hotel is a beautiful Hotel in Idyllic surroundings with amazing views of Torbay what a pity that through such a poor experience my dreams of a this venue have been somewhat shattered. The rest of the hotel, rooms etc are of a reasonable to good standard and we met some really pleasant staff. Come on Berry Head You could do a so much better with so little effort.

Lovely place

I have visited this hotel a number of times and I think it is brilliant. The views are breathtaking and the food was amazing.

Yes I agree that some of the hotel needs a little updating but certainly nothing to worry about as this is all about location. The staff are also very friendly.

Dreadful dining experience - never again!

We had a family lunch in the "a la carte" restaurant one day in August. It was obvious that the Hotel was busy that day - however, our booking was made last minute, so the Hotel must have known they would be busy elsewhere, but still accepted the booking.
Busy though they were, we were the only people in the restaurant - there was no atmosphere and we were plagued by flies throughout the meal. Our drinks arrived quickly, and our orders were taken quickly - then we waited about 25 minutes for our starters, sat with dirty plates for some time, then waited another 25 minutes for our main courses, sat with dirty plates for some time, then waited a further 20 minutes for our desserts. We were there for just over 3 hours, far longer than we expected, and by the time the desserts arrived some of our group had already left. The food was not only late, but utterly un-inspiring, nothing special about it at all.
On a good note, our waiter was pleasant and polite when he was with us - but it was obvious he was working elsewhere in the hotel as he would disappear for a long time in between servings - and twice we had to walk in to the kitchen to get someone's attention!
Knowing we were the only people in the restaurant - and knowing that most of the staff were busy outside and in the bar with wedding guests and lunch time visitors, I am surprised that the Hotel didn't offer to set us up somewhere in the bar area so that we could be looked after better.
All-in-all, this was a memorable experience for the wrong reasons, and I will not be visiting the hotel again.
