Newer Base lacks durability

We’ve owned our Sleep Number bed for 14 years and have truly loved it. The original large plastic modular base that came with our bed lasted all those years without a single issue.

In 2025 a few panels finally broke on one side, which felt understandable after so many years of use. However, we learned that Sleep Number no longer makes that original modular base. Instead, the replacement provided is the newer half-base design.

Unfortunately, that base has not been nearly as durable. Since June 2025, we are now on our fourth replacement because the base keeps breaking.
I do want to give credit where it’s due—Sleep Number’s customer service has been excellent. Each time we’ve had an issue, they have replaced the base at no cost and the representatives have been very helpful and kind.

However, after several replacements failing in a relatively short period of time, it seems likely that this may be a durability issue with the newer base design rather than an isolated defect. Our original base lasted 14 years with zero problems, while the replacements have not held up the same way.

If Sleep Number has a stronger base option or another long-term solution available, we would truly appreciate the opportunity to try something more durable so we can continue enjoying the bed we’ve loved for so many years.

Sleep Number beds are horrible

Sleep Number beds are horrible. Read reviews on Sleep number bed complaints.
Their 100 night trial is a scam. It cost me $2300.00 for 5 nights.
The bed malfunctioned the first night through night 5. The last night I slept on it the air went completely out and I could barely walk. I was told in the store that if I didn't like it, I could return it for a refund. That was not true. They are charging me $2300.00 fees for the supposedly trial. JD Power reviewed SN at #1 best bed award. Read JD Power complaints on the web and Sleep Number. They misrepresent these beds. Thousands of unhappy customers. This company and JD power should be shut down because of their shady scam.

Overpriced, disorganized corporation

There was no flexibility in delivery day of the week or time of day, but the delivery fee was $150. I wasn’t able to be home during my assigned delivery window so my roommate was working from home to receive it and missed it somehow. I was told they would try again in two weeks. I called and informed them I would need a mattress sooner, and requesting a refund as I was given no choice in timing other than to pick the earliest Wednesday they offered. The supervisor I spoke to on the phone was gracious enough to offer a full refund including the delivery fee, but then she called back two hours later to say it would be delivered by the end of the day.

At the end of the day, I received a bagged mattress and a small box, and when I opened them later that evening I found that I had received a pump, an air mattress with a small shell, and no power cable or air hoses. I called customer service the next day, and she insisted I needed to be sent another pump in addition to the air hose and power cable, because it wasn’t possible to get them separate. Go figure. I also checked again on the possibility of returning the nonfunctional mattress, but she said their policy is to only accept returns after 30days, minus a processing fee of course, even if the bed is incomplete in the first place. The overnight delivery she ordered arrived four days later in a very familiar box, which contained only another pump.

I called back, requested the missing parts, and a kind woman had to dig very hard to find out how to send me just what I was missing. She meant to expedite it but forgot, and when I called back the next day she said that it was too late to change the order as it had already shipped, but I would receive it by Friday. The next Monday, I called back for my missing package and she said there was no delivery date listed, but was able to get me a tracking number. It appeared to be taking a joy ride around Kansas for the last week, stopping in several different cities there with no delivery date posted. At last, out of the blue, and ironically exactly two weeks after the original delivery, I received the air hose and power cable. After digging deep for a solid hour, I was able to troubleshoot the settings on my iphone to be able to connect with the bed pump and actually use it.

Pros: I wanted a firm bed, and got it, after a fashion.
-I can adjust the firmness setting for guests

Cons:
-high price for what appears to be an air mattress zipped into a shell made to look like a mattress (I did order one without a built-in topper so I could play with foam thickness separately). Hopefully it’s a VERY durable air mattress
-high delivery fee with no flexibility.
-customer service was very disorganized, perhaps to create “sludge” and prevent people from following through with returns. It only made me more determined not to spend my money for nothing, and to hold them accountable for their many errors along the way.
-the instructions on the app for setting up the bed were rather vague, and I needed an hour, their website FaQs and AI to piece it all together.

Horrible Service + Product

I had a deeply frustrating experience with the Sleep Number location in Tuscaloosa. The salesperson was shockingly misinformed and failed to disclose that the bed frame was a final sale—something that would have definitely impacted my purchasing decision. This lack of transparency feels incredibly dishonest.

It only got worse with customer service. They scheduled a service visit and told me they had the parts for the repair, only to not show up on the scheduled day. Later, I received a call informing me that they actually did not have the parts, wasting my time completely.

The entire experience has been frustrating, misleading, and unprofessional from start to finish. I expected much better from a company like Sleep Number. I do not recommend this location and strongly urge others to ask very specific questions—especially regarding returns and service—because you will not be getting that information voluntarily.

Not to mention, this bed has given me the worst back pain imaginable. The bed is not comfortable at all, and does not work properly.

STUPID Exchange Policy

So I spent $7,300 on an i10 sleep system and after 1 night, I called to try to exchange it for the King that has separate head and feet control and I HAVE to wait 30 days to exchange. WHY?! you'd think they would want to re-wrap and resell a mattress that has only been slept ONE day compared to THIRTY! NOW I'm teetering on just returning it for a full refund and getting an i-sense! Customer service is HIGHLY VALUED-Darren Mitchell, Bountiful, UT

Regret buying a Sleep Number Bed

We bought a Sleep Number bed four years ago and were happy with it until recently when the air started leaking out of one side. We paid $190 to have someone look at it since the self troubleshooting process was a little much for my wife and I. I am 79 and she is 72. It turns out we need a new air chamber for $188 and another service call of $190. If I had known the mattress could have these problems we would have purchased a good regular mattress.
