Just run

This bank is a nightmare for their customers.
I am an expat, I do not receive money from Luxembourg and provide them a certificate for fiscal residence every year. In 2025, Christmas time, they announced me that it will close my account because the document is not valid, even they can verify the validity of this document on the internet.
If you like to have this type of adventure, this is your bank, if not, just run of them.

Not helpful

Not helpful, slow, stupid. Multiple times they leave me in the dust, I am about to change bank -- yet again.

Loan appication

I Applied for a loan to cover some renovation works I’ve done to a house I own. The reason I applied through them is because I am now living and working in Luxembourg, so I can not get a loan in my home-country where my regular bank is located. I am already a client at the bank, but not using my account very actively.

In the process they asked for statements of 2 separate bank accounts I own outside of Spuerkeess. I found this very personal information that does not iffer a lot of value, but since there are no secrets there I’ve provided this information. After a process that took almost a month the loan got declined because my salary is not transferred to my Spuerkeess account. Something they’ve known from the start.

This was an application for a loan that would have been around 6% of my monthly income. Very short-sighted in my opinion. They will never get any more business from me, that is for sure

Incompetence mixed with arrogance

I have been with these lot for 19 years now. They level of customer care is degrading year by year.
Online security became questionable.
Today started early 4am. Wanted to withdraw cash at their ATM. Did not succeed. Complained via email as at 4am none of them works naturally why would they...
Not a word of apology!
Here is their customer care level.
As for the technical issue the 19/01/2025 morning my experience was with the same result...so I call it BS!
Any normal company would fire an employee straight away for an attitude like Mr Bastian I believe.

Dear Mr. Stier,

Hereby we inform you that due to a technical issue with the ATM at branch in Grevenmacher, it was out of service during your attempt.

However, if you are disgusted and disgusted by our services and believe that your money is not safe with Spuerkeess, feel free to change bank.

Best regards

Disappointing Business Account Application Process

I submitted over 10 documents for my business account application, and just 10 minutes later, I received a response saying I was ineligible. It's impossible that my documents were thoroughly reviewed in such a short time. To make matters worse, I hadn’t even submitted my annual accounts yet, as I was planning to email them separately. This level of service is completely unacceptable for a bank. If your policies make it so difficult for small businesses to open accounts, you should stop advertising that you offer business banking. Very disappointing.

RUDE AND UNCOMPETANT EMPLOYEES…

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the recent experience I had while trying to resolve an issue with your SNet service. Not only does the system seem to be malfunctioning, but the level of customer support I received was far below acceptable standards.

During my interactions with two separate representatives, I was met with rudeness, lack of professionalism, and a blatant unwillingness to assist. Both individuals seemed unconcerned with my issue and, shockingly, hung up during the calls. This is not the level of service I expect from a bank with a AAA rating.

Fortunately, my third interaction was with Alice Carvalho, who demonstrated politeness and a genuine willingness to help. It’s unfortunate that she stood out because of how poor the previous experiences were.

I trust that this matter will be brought to the attention of the appropriate department, and I hope Franck Fischer is informed of this situation. Your services, while highly rated, should reflect that in every aspect, including customer care.

They don't want expat clients

First, I contacted them by phone in order to know how to open a new account as an expat. They told me that I had all the information on the web and they didn't know why I was calling to information number...
After that, I contacted them by email, because I need my bank account before moving to Luxembourg in order to complete all my new job and apartment documents.
They told me all the advantages about their bank as an expat and that I could do every procedure from my home country.
After two weeks of conversations, they finally told me that I have to go physically to an office in Luxembourg and that they can't help me.
If you are an expat, I recommend not even try to open an account with them.
Calling to the customer service is a lost of time and they are very rude.

The worst banking experience ever

The worst banking experience ever. Honestly I did not even think about it how bad this bank could be. The point is that from the day I received my card it was not working. I had been telling them for week and they kept saying it would be working at shopping check out. But it did not, I picked stuff for my dinner and guess what I could not pay. The card simply was not working, neither my Apple Pay, not even atm.
I had no cash with myself and as I called them they said they don’t know when it was going to be solved, it was the year 2021 not 1900, they did not have 24/7 costumer service

The only positive things compared to…

The only positive things compared to many banks, is the ebanking app. It is quite modern and easy to use. Though, Revolut or N26 have by far more modern and intuitive UI.
On the negative side, BCEE is expensive (I'd say the most expensive) bank in the market. Zebra packs are useless. The Miles and More credit card is interesting but expensive too. Having a "saving" account for rent deposit is also too expensive for no reason. You pay more than a hundred per year for keeping your money in a saving account... In short, why shall someone pay for service that are very standard or bellow standard if neo banks (N26, Revolut ... etc.) are taken into account?

State owned bank with good mortgages but also with horrible fees

State owned bank with horrible fees, avoid if you can. For a current account, they charge high fees. You can at their main competitors, like ING, BGL, BIL and POST, get a completely free account - many of them with a free debit card if you sign up to free Internet banking. It's impossible to have a free current account or savings account or loan account with this bank.

However, their mortgage rates are competitive and if you talk to the right adviser, they can be much more flexible on taking your financial situation into account than other banks. If you have millions of euros in annual income from investment sources, you will never get a loan with these other banks mentioned - they demand you have a below average salary instead. These banks consider it impossible to get fired/quit a job, while more likely that you lose all your other assets. So here BCEE is excellent, BGL is also good at this - but their service level is far worse. BGL will easily spend weeks of delays, while BCEE often works within hours.

They have a very easy to use app for banking. In summary, consider them for mortgages - but not for current accounts/savings accounts.
