Bernardos "live" auction. Why the need.
I have bought from Barnardo's on Ebay. Its an auction site so if your the highest bidder you secure the item and generally it arrives promptly in the post and as described.
Today I had a look and they have introduced a "live" auction element where you are like competing against others in real time and are likely to bid more than you might necessarily want to. Why would they do that. Squeezing a few more £ out of an already generous public is the only thing I can think of. They have gone down in my estimation and appear no different than all the other big bucks charities out there. I wont use their "live" auction under any circumstances.
I will never donate again
I visited the Barnardo store in Maghull in Merseyside today. I had a range of high quality men’s clothes including theee suits still labelled. I was met by quite an abrupt and judgmental woman who told me she’d take the new labelled stuff but was not interested in going through bag of high quality sports and smart clothing. The truth is that she couldn’t be arsed. It’s only when I said to her “give me it all back and I’ll go somewhere else “ that she decided to take an interest.
I will never donate to Bernardo’s again. A disgrace of a shop and staff have awful attitude
Danestone Barnardo's Shop
Barnardo's charity shop, Danestone, Aberdeen.
I popped in yesterday for a browse, as I do when in that area.
I purchased some lovely items at reasonable prices, the two ladies on duty were very friendly and helpful.
Won a lovely tombola prize too !
I admire the work that Barnardo's do.
Every child deserves to be heard, respected and supported. Children are the adults of tomorrow !
Awful customer service
Awful customer service from the female members of staff at the Monks Cross Store. Overheard one of them (I think Warehouse Manager from the badge) insulting their own volunteers. Pretty sure she pulled out a vape on the shopfloor too. The only saving grace was the very helpful man at the till.
The other Barnardos Shop in York has much better customer service. friendly, helpful, and polite. Maybe management of the Monks Cross store should take note!
Killamarsh branch sheffield polite young man working hard…
Big shout to young man working hard giving up his time very polite keep up the good work 👏
Appalling staff are rude and unhelpful was told they'd accept items then when turned up they refused them. Unhelpful, rude, just a few words to describe them
Phoned earlier in week to ask if certain items accepted before wasting a trip only then to turn up at store to have items refused and told its down to person on door to make decision. Rude, unhelpful a few words to describe. They need training in customer service and also be a bit more tactful when bad mouthing about ppl donating when they are within hearing distance of what is being said!!!!
Rude and kills all the good feelings about helping each other!
The purpose of this charity suits my philanthropic aims, and therefore I prefer to donate to Barnardo's.
I have donated a wide range of quality and expensive items, including a brand-new printer, brand-new clothing, kitchen items, and items collected from all around the world.
To date, I have always been responded to very rudely and even combatively. Even today, when I was dropping items at their back door, a female staff member literally told me off because I was donating before 9AM and using the back door.
The back door acceptance was not originally my idea. They had asked me to use that door if I drive.
So, let alone being given a nice and polite thank you, to date I have always faced a very rude attitude.
I donate to Cancer Research UK in Southport too, and they warmly thank me, which makes my heart warm and makes me feel more connected and useful to them.
Sadly, from this point forward, I will never donate to Barnardo’s.
They have taken all the good feelings, sense of community, and sense of being a good citizen away from me. I do not deserve that.
Zero star If there was a choice
The staff in this particular shop Edgeley are rude nasty and negative. I was particularly disturbed by their apparent lack of compassion, empathy, and respect. I witnessed them making degrading remarks towards the homeless on our streets. And this was heard by all in the store pacing back and too like they owned the store and had the right to act in such. respect is free and should be a fundamental value no matter who you maybe. i will never set one foot in any of these shops nor donate id sooner burn it. Barnardo's your a disgrace. O and as for caring like hell you do, all you do is take take..
Take on Harpurhey barnardos
Harpurhey shop is a great place to shop , the people who work there are a friendly lot. nice people . would recommend anyone to go. i always get a smile and friendly chat and sometimes purchase something just what i need.
very rude staff
leave:
“I visited this charity shop today with my young daughter, hoping to donate two medium-sized bags of kids’ clothing (mostly unworn) and a small bag of kids’ shoes. The staff member I spoke to was dismissive from the start, telling me he couldn’t accept them because ‘there was too much.’ When I asked why, he couldn’t give a proper reason and instead became increasingly rude. After calmly explaining that there was no stated policy on donation limits, he raised his voice and shouted at me in front of my daughter, telling me to leave. This was incredibly upsetting, especially as we were just trying to contribute to a good cause. I expected kindness and gratitude, but instead we were met with rudeness and humiliation. This behavior is unacceptable, especially from a charity shop. I will not be returning, and I hope the management takes this seriously.”

I always have a great experience at this shop. The manager, Sharon, and all the staff are so helpful and kind. It’s clear they care about the community. Highly recommend visiting! Thanks, Anne-Marie
Denton Manchester store - shoes from a garbage bin and resold
Very poor products. I purchased a pair of winter boots for £6 from the Denton store at Stockport Rd, Denton, Manchester M34 6DB
A week later my feet was absolutely soaked due to the treacherous rain . Unfortunately, i had lost my receipt and was not able to return it and given the poor product, i did not wish to purchase another item from them.
I made the manager aware of it today and met with little sympathy other than advice where to contact the headoffice.
I would never purchase any boots /shoes from this store. It appears they pulled it out of a garbage bin and resold it. For the money i paid , i could get a fairly new one from nearby store

A positive experience overall helpful and cheerful staff, easy access and good range of items for sale.. will recommend to others and visit regularly.
Avoid.
I would avoid buying anything from this website, as much as it pains me to post this.
Communications from Barnado's 'customer support' has been abysmal:
- no delivery information has been shared
- 2 false despatch emails sent to me (possibly in error, who knows)
- it took a week for the bed to reach the courier's warehouse
- when I asked for the courier's phone number, Barnado's sent me a phone number that's not manned (well done, team!)
- over 25 emails and 5 phone calls later, I'm still waiting for my bed to be delivered.
NO ONE has been forthcoming with delivery information. It's been a shambles, and it's hard to believe that this is an organisation that wants to raise money.
Yes, the website says that larger pieces of furniture 'may take longer than 2-3 days to be delivered' but 10+ days with NO INFORMATION?? This is definitely the Ryanair of charities.
Dishonest organisation with a history of scandal
Like many charities, Barnardo's sell items on online marketplaces, such as eBay UK.
After buying an item which was sent for collection to a local Argos, I was unable to pick it up in time. I asked for a refund, but the returned item was lost in transit. Barnardo's refused to contact Royal Mail, as the sender, let alone assist me in any way whatsoever, even though the managed returns process is their responsibility, and that of the postal carrier. eBay simply looked at the incorrect tracking, and would not refund me.
Don't buy from Barnardo's online, or donate to this dishonest, borderline criminal organisation who pose as a charity in the UK. Lest we forget, a more compelling reason not to donate to Barnardo's is because of their widespread failings to look after children, leading to government action in the form of national inquiries, in both the UK and Australia, that uncovered widespread physical, emotional, and sexual abuse of children in their care over many decades.
Opening Times
Always use the Leven store. Checked on the website for opening times. Says open on Sunday until 4. Came down to donate clothes at 11.45 and it was closed. Update website maybe.
Had an experience with a really…
Had an experience with a really entitled and rude Barnardos street fundraiser in Holborn yesterday afternoon. I was CLEARLY in a hurry and I had already been accosted by them a couple of hours before. The guy who tried to stop me when I was running late for something should have used discernment and initiative to see that I was in a hurry before trying to approach me.
I briskly told him "no no" because A. I'd already told them no that day and B. Again... I was in a hurry.
He responded with "so unfriendly!!"
YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO OUR TIME. If you can't use your good sense to see that people are in a hurry and probably don't have time to talk (knowing that we're just going to be asked to spend money we probably don't have to spare) is your own problem.
I already donate to charity of my own volition, and to be quite honest... I find Barnardos questionable. I'm not willing to give money to this particular organisation, especially with people like THAT representing them.
Very irritating. My feelings have definitely been confirmed by other people's reviews.
