My dog used to love Barking Heads Hair…
My dog used to love Barking Heads Hair Necessities. We recently got our usual BH Hair Necessities and the colour and consistency was very different from previous bags. My dog wouldn't go anywhere near it, even with peanut butter, and she is a piggy with food normally. We had to keep adding yoghurt, tuna, gravy, cheese topper but even then she licked the gravy off and spat out the kibble on the floor.
I emailed BH and CS team and they said the recipe had not changed, it was the storage by retailers that affects it. The seller listed was Amazon on behalf of BH, no other sellers involved. If Amazon are not storing it correctly and it's exposed to heat that dies it out, then shouldn't Barking Heads, as a supplier, be looking into it?
So I bought another bag today from a reputable pet food superstore, and that too was a different colour/consistency identical to the bag we got from Amazon and that store has cool storage so looks like it's nothing to do with heat. Looks like I'm going to have to find a new brand.
Curiously, another pet food store locally, said they no longer had any stock in storage because it was being phased out. Which has coincided with me finding lots of reviews online complaining that the food looked different and their dogs no longer liked it. As an independent small brand, it was bought out by a larger company not so long ago. Maybe that's what our local pet food superstore meant by phasing out? Who knows?
I'm disappointed as I was one of Barking Heads original customers when it first launched but it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. If a piece of kibble falls on the floor, my greedy girl can't even be bothered to eat it. She sees it as low value. Doesn't dmell even vaguely fishy anymore like it used to. I have hyperosmia and my sense of dmell is extraordinary but the last 3 bags of BH I can't detect the oils that used to be in the kibble.

While there haven’t been any changes to the Hair Necessities recipe beyond packaging updates, we fully appreciate your concerns about the differences in appearance, texture and aroma, especially across multiple retailers.
Products sold via Amazon may be fulfilled through their own warehouse network and handled by different marketplace sellers, meaning storage conditions can vary and are outside of our direct control. However, as you’ve also experienced the same issue with a specialist pet retailer, we’d really like to investigate this further with our Quality team.
If you still have the bags, the batch details would be very helpful in helping us look into this properly. We can also confirm there are no plans to discontinue the range; any changes in availability would be down to individual retailers.

As previously, my order was processed easily, delivered very promptly on the next day, was well packed in sturdy packaging and of course the. 'Seniors' dry cat food I was buying was to the same high quality as always.
When service is to this standard, it stands out from the lacklustre norm we are forced to accept nowadays.

We have a Frenchie and a Pug.
We have a Frenchie and a pug we have used the biscuits Salmon Hair Necessities for about a year made a difference to allergies and fur so decided to try the wet food been using it now about a month. Both dogs love it the pug even dances and barks while I’m preparing she is 9 years old and a long time since that’s happened.
