Terrible Claims Process and Unfair Policy Termination – Avoid Balunos!
I had Balunos insurance for about 3 years, with minimal claims during the first year. Two years ago, my dog developed an ear infection, which led to significant medical expenses, including multiple surgeries, over 1.5 years. Balunos took more than a year to assess the claims and then arbitrarily grouped all related treatments into one case (which I do not agree with), citing internal guidelines. This decision severely limited the coverage under their "per-case" policy, resulting in a refund that barely covered 30% of the total costs I incurred during those 2 years.
They even tried to avoid paying entirely by using a vague comment from a vet about a potential relation to allergies—an irrelevant excuse. Only after months of fighting did they finally reimburse me, but far below the actual expenses.
To make matters worse, Balunos used the situation as an excuse to cancel my policy entirely, leaving me without protection for future expenses. Now, every condition they partially covered will be excluded by other insurers, making it nearly impossible to find suitable coverage.
Their handling of claims was slow, frustrating, and unfair. They failed to provide meaningful support when it was most needed and abandoned me and my dog when the situation became inconvenient for them. I strongly advise against trusting Balunos for your pet insurance.
