Disputed damage claim after return

Disputed damage claim after return
Rented a car from Avis in Antwerp and was later presented with a disputed damage claim after return.
Despite providing context and requesting clear evidence, communication was slow and non-substantive, with no meaningful engagement on the facts.
Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend documenting everything meticulously or choosing a different rental company in Belgium.

Be very careful when renting from Avis…

Be very careful when renting from Avis in Belgium. They would LIE to you before doing the rental regarding the rental conditions, then when you claim and provide proof the manager would lie to you regarding doing a refund (which they will NOT do), and then customer service would simply not reply to your complaints, no matter if you have upfront WRITTEN confirmation about the rental conditions. So, Avis Belgium is NOT A COMPANY TO TRUST when doing car rentals and handing in your credit card details.

rented a car for 6 days

rented a car for 6 days.
I filled up the tank myself upon a delivery and provided proof with a ticket and a photo of the dashboard. Now Avis says it wasn't full because i filled up 28 km from the drop-off location, and it should have been within 10 km. so extra charge off 46 euro!
This isn't state anywhere,and when i asked ,they couldn't /won't send it.
I haven't received my deposit back either. This is what i'm eading many time's in review from Avis: deposits are NOT refunded
SCAM!

Beware of thieves working for Avis at Brussels Airport!

The employee who inspects Avis car rentals at Brussels Airport and his manager are dangerous and will trick you into paying extra fees. They use lies and fraud to get you to accept damage to a car when it's not your fault. The process is simple: when you pick up the car, it's impossible to see all the damage due to the dim lighting and because many damages aren't reported or mentioned in the report. When you return it, the same employee will point out a nearly invisible scratch on a wheel cap or a small part and accuse you of being responsible. If you dispute this, his manager will gang up on him and try to intimidate you by asking, "What do you mean, you're not responsible for this damage? Are you trying to tell us that we're liars and trying to scam you?". He'll then reply, "No problem, sir," and ask you to sign on his mobile device, displaying a blank screen for you to sign. He'll say, "This is to confirm that you have returned the car". As you leave the rental car for the airport, you'll be surprised to receive an email with an additional charge of a few hundred Euros, signed by you, proving that you agree to pay for the damage.
This is a well-established mafia tactic, now practised at Avis at Brussels Airport. One advice: avoid them completely and never sign anything Avis asks you to sign, as they could use it to scam you and make you pay extra fees!

We rented a car lived big problem

We rented a car through the Booking website to pick up from Charleroi airport at 17:30 local time on May 31, 2025. When we went to the office at 17:50 due to the flight delay (can be checked on airline flights), the office was closed and we were not informed about the closing time of the office. When we called Booking customer service, they told us to cancel the reservation and make it online again. However, when we asked how to make a reservation again from an office that was closed, they did not give any information about this and kept telling us to cancel it and make a new reservation. We did not cancel the reservation on purpose so that it would appear in the records that the vehicle was not picked up. Since we were going to go to the Netherlands from the airport, we were even more victimized by the elapsed time and had to rent from another rental company, as it is generally known that flights at the airport are not always on time. Since the difference in the payment we made to the other company is due to Avis or Booking not informing us in advance about the closing time, I demand that the difference be paid to me in accordance with my legal consumer rights.

4 weeks to get a deposit back

Wow definitely wouldn't use, took £200 deposit on pick up and no mention of it takes 4 weeks to get your deposit back
After a week of no refund I contacted the station and the email I got back states that the refunds take 4 weeks
Don't think that's mentioned in there terms and conditions

rental February 27 2025 …

Subject: claim against Avus Belgiume

It looks that the management of Avis Belgium is really creative in finding ways to cheat customers.
I did rent a car from Avis on February 27 2025, starting from the Brussels airport and returning the car at the same location. The contract number was: 437830982
Before returning the car, I did refuel up to full at less than 7km from the airport.
After receiving the invoice by mail, I did discover that I had been charged an amount of € 27.75 for refueling. I did immediately introduce a claim and asked for refund.
No answer. After repeating the claim twice and still not receiving an answer, I look for another mail address from which I quickly received an answer denying the refund.
The manager answering did show creativity at the best way: he pretends and the general conditions he sent me confirm that creativity: the cars from Avis are connected and automatically report on the fuel level.
Wonderful hoax!! The manager did pretend that I had to pay for the refueling of 4.8 litres.
Pretty accurate pretension. I did show evidence of the refueling I made, but the manager informed me that the refueling had been done. So I did ask for evidence of that refueling at a pretended level of 4.8 liters.
No evidence received, no refund received.
Regards
G Braas

From bad to worse

Where do I start. Pick up in Zaventem Airport went great, the people at the desk were really super nice. Unfortunately it goes downhill from there. I was renting the car for about 1 month, and after one week I went to pick up my other family members (we are 5 total) only to realise one security belt was missing on the back seat. Obviously the car had been rented to me as a 5 seat car, except it had only 4 belts. I went back to the airport where I was told this must be a factory issue and received another car, same white bmw but with 5 belts this time. Not very clean (perhaps it just was returned, I don't know, however, I didn't pay much attention and was happy to drive my family to our vacation destination). Fast forward to the return of the car: the Avis person looks at the car, SAYS NOTHING (also kept answering in English while I adressed him in both French and dutch), and gives me his phone to sign for return, which I do (I rent cars at least once a month and till here nothing out of the ordinary). 30 minutes later, while I'm about to board the plane, I receive an Avis receipt stating I owe 75 euros for smoking in the car (I DON'T SMOKE and no one in my family - me, husband and 3 small kids - does AND 125 euro cleaning because the car's floor carpets were not spotless clean (never heard of having to return a spotless clean car and however on a long term rent how can you expect a perfectly clean car and either way I should have been told this at pickup. However, most likely, the replacement car had not been cleaned before it was given to me. The whole thing is just incredibly bad, never ever will I rent from Avis again.

I don't recommend this company.

I had a 8-day car rental with CarJet but at Charleroi airport in Belgium , Avis Budget was supposed to hand over the car keys after deposit payment and presenting documents ( ID or passport , driving license ). Their agent R. charged me - without informing me - with extra Eur 330, he took advantage of my limited English language knowledge and my bank card. Extremely disappointed and deeply regret my first car rental in Belgium and definitely will be the last one. I am going to take my case further.

DISHONEST AND UNRELIABLE ORGANISATION

I rented a car, 02/07/2022, for a week with the possibility to extend it every week, so i did it. They pre-authorized around 250 euros average per week. In the 4th week they put the wrong code and they took by mistake 2.233. In total around 3.000. I spoke with the shop agent and inform me they have made a mistake. Ok, no problem, solve it. He answer that it is me who need to deal with the central in Brussels. I could not believe. They are aware in the entire organization of this issue, sent me apologizes emails and what do i find now? After having return the car 10 days ago, and the mistake made 3 weeks ago, not only they did not return the money but also i get a payment from them of 850 euros. I am starting legal actions against them for fraudulent use of client's cards though the ECC here in Belgium and also in my country in Spain. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS ORGANIZATION!!! THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE!!!!

Did not return deposit yet, customer service not responding

Rented a car in July in Gent. Took out extra insurance, still was asked to pay 90 euro as extra deposit, which was written off my bank account. Would be returned soon they said. Now, 4 months later, still nothing. Wrote to their customer service 3 times now. Phone number no available for customer service from outside Belgium. Wonder how many more people are affected and just never noticed this.

Disgusting Service at BRUSSELS ZUID STATION

I made a reservation 6 months before 15th June 2021 with AVIS ZUID STATION . Everything was ok, i even changed my reservation hour and day with the avis zuid station. I get into the agency speaking with my basic french with Mr. Vadine or Vadime, Vadiue, the face, the agent of Avis Car Rental Service Belgium at the ZUIDSTATION

He started to control my passport as a police man (checking each page), he asked me for my Mexican drivers licence. He takes 45 minutes to finally told me that my licence was not "valid" in Europe even if already made rentals in France and Spain. When I Complaint, Mr. Police Man Vadine was even ironic and sarcastic.

Very bad service with Avis

Problems with the location of the car. The problems were fortunately without consequences (help of another rental car desk who take the car). No miles in my Flying Blue account. Airport supplement not indicated in the price. No rental agreement received. Etc.
No answer after 20 days from their customer service (the Belgium one).
In short the service is a joke!
