This program is perfect for anybody wanting to complete the theory part of their day skipper course.
The classes are delivered by experienced sailors who are both engaging and easy to understand. The lessons are broken down into manageable chunks with small tests at the end of each topic.
The live chat feature is excellent if you need to contact any one about your learning. If you are struggling to get something right you can reach out and they will answer you back within a couple of minutes (during manned hours).
In all dealings with them, I found them to be professional, helpful and friendly.
Thanks to them I passed the theory exam, and should I want to further my sailing training, I would not hesitate to use them again.

This was a well put together course that was just about the right pace and the use of video meant it felt personal and directed.

I had originally wanted to do a class based course but in the end I think this was a much better format, and with a little bit of discipline it beat the classroom hands down as I was able to go back again and again to check things out. The training with the instructors on board a yacht gave it a real feeling as did the experience of the trainers. The feel was quite informal while still very educational with good examples and easy to understand presentations of the principles. The material provided was excellent, with additional key information and memory aids provided in a "library" of additional material. There was a general understanding that there was a lot of information to take on for a new student, and the instructors did sympathise with the students not to worry that they would get there. The material was really well presented and well laid out with the appropriate emphasis on passing the test. The trainers were on hand quickly if I had an issue, which was only once and on a Saturday to boot, but they were there to support me. Highly recommended course.

A fantastic course with knowledgeable and engaging instructors and fantastic learning resources in a variety of formats. Whenever I was uncertain of any points the instructors (not chatbots) were incredibly swift in responding (literally within 10 minutes on each occasion).

Ardent was outstanding throughout my course and I would highly recommend them. Their online materials were excellent compared to other providers but what really made tham excel was the responsiveness and accessibility of their tutors who seemed to be available whenever I was studying to answer questions and provide feedback.

I have not done a lot of sailing apart from some competent crew trips. I really wanted to do a Day Skipper theory course that fitted into my work schedule and this course was perfect for that. I found the course informative and interesting, even on some of the drier subjects. Access to the instructors is easy and they respond almost immediately; they are extremely knowledgeable and there is no such thing as a stupid question. I couldn't recommend the course enough, the Ardent Training team were awesome, thanks for your time and flexibility.

Completed the day skipper theory course and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything is there for you to learn all you need to know at your own pace. I always got very prompt and helpful responses when ever I had a question. The live on-line presentations were very good and varied, always giving a new perspective, and offering an interactive opportunity. Thank you and all the best to the Ardent team.

Seriously, this is 100% the way to go if you're looking to achieve your certification. The videos are engaging and to the point. The immediate access to the instructors via chat is wonderful, and all of the exercises were really well done. I'm in the US, and didn't really have any trouble at all with the time offset - they work late enough into the evening and on weekends that I never waited to get answers. The classroom application works exactly as it needs to.

This is easily one of the best educational experiences I've had.

I can't compare Ardent's training to others - but I don't need to. This rang the bell for me, and I've got my cert. Congrats on a job well done, guys!

The best on line sailing course I have used by far.

Just completed my day skipper course. Everything was really clear and well presented. Although it’s on line the instructors respond really quickly to any questions and there’s lot of opportunities to practise what you’ve learned. Everything is broken down into topics so it’s easy to go back and revise. Ardent was recommended to me and I’m glad I chose them.

I recently completed the RYA Day Skipper Theory online course with Ardent Training and had an excellent experience.

I have been around boats for many years and wanted to formalize some of my knowledge while filling in a few gaps—particularly around regulations, safety, and chartwork. The course is extremely well structured and clearly explained, progressing logically from simpler concepts to more advanced topics.

One of the aspects I appreciated most was the flexibility. You can study entirely at your own pace, which makes it ideal if you have work or family commitments. Whenever I had questions, I could email the instructors and receive feedback or clarification. I live in the United States, in a different time zone, yet their response time was consistently within 10–20 minutes—truly impressive.

Because work forced me to pause the course for a few months, I had the opportunity to see a major update to the course material when I resumed. The new version was even better: clearer explanations, improved graphics, and excellent zoom features that make chartwork much easier to follow.

I also appreciated the balanced approach to navigation. The course gives increasing attention to modern digital navigation tools and apps, which are becoming standard in boating, while still teaching traditional navigation methods so that you’re not left helpless if technology fails.

Another pleasant surprise was the environmental section, which I have rarely seen covered so thoughtfully in navigation or seamanship courses.

If I had to suggest one improvement, I would love to see even more practice tests and chart exercises to allow for additional practice before the final exam.

Overall, I warmly recommend this course to anyone who wants a solid refresher or is starting from scratch—especially if you need the flexibility to learn at your own pace. I’m already looking at my next course… perhaps the RYA Marine Radio SRC course.

Just passed Day Skipper Theory. Excellent material with videos and text slides. Response to questions within a minute or two and the instructors are so patient and will work through anything you don't understand first time. The flexibility of online suited my study and I could go back and re-do knowledge checks and module assessments as often as needed which is something a classroom course wouldn't give you. The weekly online meetings on various sailing topics are a real bonus. I am looking forward to doing Coastal with Ardent!
