I hold a non resident account, still I can manage my account safely and easily.

I bank in different jurisdictions, Ameria bank is my favorite. I hold a non resident account, still I can manage my account safely and easily. Support team is responsive, my renewed debit card was shipped to my country without any delay.

Behind the Branding: The Real Ameriabank Experience

Based on direct experience, there are several serious concerns that potential clients—particularly foreigners, dual citizens, or those seeking full-service accessibility—should consider before banking with them.

Customer service is inconsistent. While some employees are courteous and knowledgeable, others seem undertrained or unwilling to assist with non-routine matters. This creates inefficiencies and delays that are especially problematic for clients needing quick or clear solutions.

Although Ameriabank has developed some digital tools, there is a lack of synchronization between online platforms and in-branch services. Many simple requests still require physical visits or duplicated steps, which diminishes the efficiency expected from a modern bank.

A key limitation is that the bank does not serve clients with social package or pension accounts, excluding a significant portion of the population from accessing basic banking services. Additionally, express money transfers are restricted to MoneyGram only, limiting flexibility for clients who may prefer more widely used systems like Western Union or Ria.

The account opening process is overly invasive, with clients being asked excessive personal questions—such as marital status and other unrelated details—that go beyond standard banking requirements and are not clearly explained from a compliance standpoint.

More concerning is that foreign citizens and dual nationals often face discriminatory treatment, including additional documentation, unjustified scrutiny, and longer processing times. This creates a sense of exclusion and makes Ameriabank feel unwelcoming to those who are not Armenian citizens.

Lastly, Ameriabank’s fee structure includes an unreasonable charge of 5,000 AMD per year for printed account statements for each account after the first year. This applies even to basic requests and adds a considerable financial burden, especially for clients who manage multiple accounts or need multi-year documentation.

While Ameriabank certainly has some potential, these ongoing issues—including lack of inclusivity, high service fees, privacy concerns, and inefficient service delivery—make it difficult to recommend to those seeking truly modern, transparent, and customer-friendly banking.

Dear Edgar Avagyan, we would like to thank you for your comprehensive feedback regarding the services of Ameriabank CJSC (hereinafter referred to as the Bank). We assure you that the Bank is continuously working towards improving its services and enhancing employee knowledge and the feedback provided by our clients greatly supports us in the process.

In response to the issues raised in your comment, please be informed as follows:

• The services offered by the Bank are selected based on the segmentation of our customer base, customers’ needs, and various characteristics identified through market analysis.
• For money transfers, the Bank offers not only the MoneyGram system but also the possibility of transfers through the SWIFT system. Thanks to the Bank’s wide network of correspondent accounts, transfer execution time is minimized as much as possible.
• During the account opening and maintenance process, questions are asked within the framework of the Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure, which is a mandatory requirement under both international standards and the Armenian financial legislation. This information helps the Bank ensure the security of clients’ accounts, prevent potential fraud or financial abuse, and comply with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations. We understand that some questions may appear personal, but we assure you that they are strictly regulatory requirements and all data thus collected is maintained in accordance with the provisions of the Law․
• Regarding the account opening process for customers who do not hold Armenian citizenship or have dual citizenship, please be informed that this approach reflects the Bank’s responsible policy. It is also common international practice to conduct enhanced due diligence on customers who do not hold citizenship of the given country or have dual citizenship before establishing a business relationship. Therefore, this cannot be considered discriminatory.
• In accordance with the requirements of the Armenian legislation, the Bank provides clients with monthly account statements free of charge. Additionally, clients can export their statements at no cost via MyAmeria mobile application.

Once again, thank you for your feedback.

Disgrace

I had a very disappointing experience with this bank. The customer service was extremely lacking — the staff were unhelpful and seemed uninterested in assisting clients. On top of that, the queues were incredibly long and disorganized, with no clear system or effort to manage the waiting time efficiently.

Ameriabank's Discriminatory Policies Against Dual Citizens

I am a dual citizen of Iran and Armenia, holding an Iranian passport, an Armenian passport and ID card, and a registered address in Armenia. I have been living in Armenia for many years, during which I have worked for Armenian companies and paid taxes.

I now need to open a foreign currency bank account to receive my salary for remote work. I have provided all the necessary documents for opening an account, including my work contract and source of income, to the bank. Unfortunately, due to the bank's internal policies, Ameriabank refused to open an account for me. This is despite the fact that I have no negative financial history and have provided all the necessary documents. It is worth noting that I opened a bank account in Denmark without any problems with my Iranian passport. This shows the discrimination and inappropriate behavior of Ameriabank.

I am very disappointed and dissatisfied with this experience and expect to enjoy all the rights and benefits of an ordinary citizen of Armenia.

I’ve been trying to receive a simple…

I’ve been trying to receive a simple international transfer that was sent to me five months ago, and to this day, the issue remains unresolved — not due to lack of documentation, but due to poor handling and unacceptable delays from Ameriabank’s side.

I submitted the requested document on April 15. I followed up on April 19 and again later with no response. Only after my third follow-up was I told that the document was “invalid” because the address didn’t match their internal records — something that was never mentioned in their original request. All they needed was proof that I live in Yerevan.

At this point, I can’t help but feel that the delay is no longer due to the intermediary bank, but due to a lack of attention and care on Ameriabank’s part. I receive my salary through this bank, I hold two loans with them, and I conduct all of my transactions through them — so it’s not like they lack information about me.

This entire experience has been beyond frustrating, and it’s clear to me now that I can’t rely on Ameriabank for any international services. I will not be using them again, and I would strongly urge others to consider a more professional and client-focused alternative.

Horrible experience with this bank

Horrible experience with this bank! They charged me fees for everything under the sun and their customer service is a joke. No one picks up the phone, and when they finally do, they have no clue what's going on.

To make matters worse, legitimate transfers from Tier 1 countries are arbitrarily blocked, whether they're going into the account or to other accounts. Funds are inexplicably held without explanation or recourse.

This unpredictable behavior poses very high risks for anyone banking with them. Avoid this bank at all costs!

Customer support specialists of the bank are very friendly and patient. There were times when I called tham in a bad mood but they were kind to listen to complaints/problems and find solutions.Great support is the main reason I'm a Ameria customer.

Not great..

The onboarding is cumbersome, the app is clunky, the transfers and exchanges are costly. I tried them as an offshore account but was of little use. I could only receive from my own private accounts and they did not issue any card for me. The customer support is slow and inadequate. A failed experiment. Alas!

The worst banking system, the worst customer service

I had so many problems with them over the time, I did a card to card transaction of 450$ and it got lost for 3 months and barely one of the employees in the head office found it after I was shouting that I won't go out of here without having it, then the same thing happened with 500$ and I called them to explain how to do it since I had the same inconvenience before.
Yesterday I deposited 700$ through the ATM cash-in, but I couldn't use the money online.
I tried to call the bank for 2 whole business days, day & evening time but there's no answer.
In the end, I called them and went to one of the branches showing the employee a live example that they never answer the calls.
My last decision was to close my account with them, but the surprise they say I have to wait 2 more days until they find my 700$ and withdraw it!! "and maybe you will change your mind" I said Never!! but anyway they said I must wait 2 days!!
The worst experience, never think of dealing with them, especially the branch of Rio mall.
