I began my solar research project about a year ago in March 2025.
Installation began in December 2025 and grants have been successfully paid in March 2026 to the total of 2100 euro.
I have purposely left this review for 4 months to be able to give an honest report on the installation and aftercare.
Not just on the technology used and installation days but on the follow up communication and support and aftercare side from the company in question.
Lots of companies will promise the moon and the stars but what if an issue occurs down the road. With over 500 solar companies in Ireland, my main concern was to use a trustworthy company with a strong background team with industry experience.

I started with analysing my bills and working out how much I spend on electricity each month and yearly. This can be done by downloading your bills and adding them up to get annual total.
I change electricity and Gas companies each year or call existing company to match current offers.
While my bills where about 1500 euro a year not too high as I have gas and a combi gas boiler that heats my water (3 showers and 4 kids) I wanted an electric car charger.
I don’t have an electric car yet but wanted to reduce any bills and future proof my house.
I was going from a B2 (I actually believed my rating was better then B2 but another story) and our house is wrapped. After solar install you get a free BER inspection and I was extremely satisfied to go to a A2 rating after my Solar was installed.

Before contacting solar companies, I educated myself and knew I wanted Battery’s to store energy during the day when produced to use later in the day when everybody was at home .
I had an external separate utility building at the rear of the house that I wanted panels on the roof as well as the main house (semi D). I had panel envy and wanted as many panels as possible.

I researched panels and their technology to check what companies were offering the best and most current technology ie 470 panels.
I researched batteries and watched Utube videos on what the best inverters were.
I read google and trust pilot reviews on irish solar companies and contacted my residents association whats app group to see who had a solar company to recommended.

I settled on 4 solar companies to come out to the house and discuss options and pricing.
Only one offered to put the panels on the external building.
Only one said they would install the batteries and inverter indoors rather than outdoors.
Some companies noticed that some upgrading work needed completing in my external meter box (upgrading tails to correct size) and only one said this was no problem a small extra charge but no need to worry. This was brilliant because I did not want the hassle of trying to get an electrician to do a small job in my external meter.
Only one company was offering the most up to date panel technology.
This company was AK Solar!
1 solar company tried the fast sell of offering me all sorts of discounts if I sign before a certain date.
I settled on AK Solar, their price was a little less then the others but they matched every installation requirement that I had and their panel technology was far superior then the others been used

Due to the complexity of my installation a large electrical cable had to be run around my garden from the meter box to the external outhouse doubling the installation time to 2 days rather then the 1 day that it normally takes.
This was not a problem, and a tidy job was done by friendly installers who where very clean and tidy and professional.
I could not get all 13 panels originally quoted but I knew this depended on the installation day when a roofer was on the roof to see what fitted where. 12 panels of 470 was still more than enough for my house with the ability to sell back to the grid and power any future electric car that I might have.
The ability to take 8c units from the grid at 4 -6 in the am was also a huge benefit to me.
I have dealt extensively with the admin team in AK solar and they were brilliant I was worried that the follow up support or receiving the grant might be troublesome.

Am I happy with AK Solar? 100%
Would I recommend AK Solar? 100% (already have to my neighbours and family)
Does the owner of the company come out and oversee each install ? Yes
As I was handing over 10K I did my research into the background of the company and the directors (you hear lots of terrible stories of companies going bust these days and people losing their deposits and more) so lets say I did my due diligent and I was very happy to see a 25 year experience in the industry and this helped settle my mind when handing over my raining day fund.
Do I think the company will be in business in 10 years time to fix any issues that may arise ? Yes
Are their aftercare support any good? Yes tested already and 100% satisfied.

From my first enquiry to AK Solar administration and sales, I was dealt with nothing but utmost efficiency, attention and professionalism from Clare and Rose.
I can now say the exact same of the AK Solar Installation Team.
On the day of install the full team arrived at 8-30am fully equipped and organised. At 4-00pm in the afternoon the install was completed, and I was generating electricity with enough to power my house in full and, with excess exporting to the Grid and making money for us.
Alan and Ciaran the electricians, were amazingly efficient and competent but also patient and crystal clear in answering questions and explaining how everything operates.
Paul, the roofer and PV install supervisor, and his team, were exactly the same.
Three weeks from initial enquiry to full install ……….. Amazing !
As a very experienced commercial architect for over 40 years, I am not easily impressed…….

The team was exceptionally friendly and professional. The panels installed works exactly as sold/ promoted by AK and also their hard work from early morning to late evening is genuinely appreciated. Would highly recommend for anyone wishing to explore Solar.

We spent a few months researching which company to go with for our solar panel installation and had several companies come out to the house to provide quotes. In the end, we chose AK Solar as my sister and her mother-in-law had both used them and were delighted with the service, so their recommendation gave us great peace of mind.

They were very easy to deal with and responded to all our queries quickly. Once we paid the deposit, they booked us in for a date two weeks later. Any issues that came up were handled promptly and with no hassle at all. We would highly recommend them!

TL;DR: I could not rate AK Solar higher, a fantastic company, great value, incredibly efficient, highest standard of work.

I contacted many solar PV companies over the course of 1 day to enquire about a quote and then waited for responses.

AK Solar were the first company to respond and I think I spent at least an hour talking with Eric in regards to my requirements. As has been noted in previous reviews, Eric does not drive a hard sales line, he is a sales person but he gives all of his time and attention to the customer and ensures that they understand everything and can ask as many questions as they need to. He also lets the customer know that he appreciates that everyone should do their due diligence and get further quotes.

I received my proposal within minutes of my call with Eric. It detailed all the hardware, the cost, the benefits, the approx payback time etc, it was very comprehensive.

3 other solar companies quoted me in the timeframe I had given myself to research companies for this job. 2 came in with similar but slightly higher quotes, and one was wildly more expensive! None gave me as much time and peace of mind as AK Solar and I reverted to them instantly.

On the 13th of Feb I accepted the proposal from AK Solar and promptly ran away on holidays for a week.

Now it is the 27th of Feb and my Solar PV & Battery system is fully installed and up and running. I can't believe how efficient every part of the process was.

Clare and Rose took care of the required admin/accounts/regulatory requirements etc while keeping me informed all the time. Whether you are a highly organised person or someone with barely enough time to keep your own head together, it doesn't matter, Clare and Rose have it all handled before you even think about it.

A big shout out to Alan and Ben who had a really really tough job making the batteries/inverter fit in the space I wanted and also running all the cabling in my new build home where the consumer board location made it all very difficult. They were fantastic and the system is exactly where I wanted it and installed incredibly neatly. They have utmost respect for peoples' property. They took off footwear going on carpet (even though they could see clearly that I didn't do that) they vacuumed and swept up continuously, they cleaned down walls where plaster dust accumulated etc etc, all while installing in a very awkward space and being exceptionally agreeable at all times. When finished there wasn't the hint that they were in the house, apart from the Solar PV hardware being up and running.

Vlad and Paul were fantastic on the outdoor/attic and roof works. The panels are aligned perfectly with one another and centred where possible with the house and each connection was checked thoroughly to ensure it was perfect. They even fixed 1 roof tile that had dislodged in a recent storm, thats what I call service!

Quick note: My install was due to be completed over 1 day(as are most installs), but due to high winds in my area, it was necessary to extend to 2 days. When you see the size of the solar panels you will understand why it is dangerous to work in windy conditions; it is great to see a company respecting the safety of the people doing this work! Knowing how eveything had gone up to this point, there wasnt a doubt in my mind that they would be back as soon as weather permitted. They arrived the next day to glorious sunshine and had the remainder of the panels fitted in around an hour.

I got 3 quotes, AK weren't the cheapest, but when they talked through the quote, i was satisfied the equipment was of a higher spec. I went with AK based on the equipment, & feedback from the 'Irish Solar Owners' Group on FB, and I wasn't disappointed. The customer service is excellent. They were happy to fix a separate issue with my roof, when on site, & even repaired broken roof tiles at no extra cost.

All the company staff were very helpful and extremely efficient both in the office and installation sides. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to my friends and acquaintances.
Everything was left impeccably clean and tidy at the end of the job.

The team at AK Solar were incredibly clear and helpful right from the beginning. Communication was excellent, letting us know what we should expect on the day, when they would arrive etc, answering any queries we had in a timely manner.
The team onsite on the day were professional and got the job done very quickly!

Just doing a follow up review of my solar system which was installed in February 2023 by AK Solar, house is a 2 bed terrace, 2 adults living in the property. system consists of 10 panels complete with eddy , no storage battery. My account is with SSE on a duel fuel budget ( gas and electricity) at a cost of of €85.00 per month . Taking into account of the government energy credit this year and credit for exporting energy back into the grid, ie. CEG payments , my total cost from January to end of December 2025 works out at €224.59 , yes that’s what I’m paying the entire year. The decision to trust and employ AK Solar back in 2023 for my system was the best investment I ever made made , it’s a no brainier to install a solar system, but I’d would highly recommend taking to Ak Solar as I could only endorse this company in the highest regard. The AK team were great to deal with from Eric, Clare and Rose in the office the experience was very good. Alan and the team were on site on the day of the install but heavy rain prevented them finishing. They quickly re-scheduled and got the system up and running. I would have no problem recommending AK for solar installations.

Our solar panels were installed on October 13. The crew were efficient and very amenable. The job was executed quickly and professionally. We enjoy our daily check of how much solar gain we get every day. Many thanks for your efficiency and kindness.

This was a first class service carried out in an efficient manner. I very much appreciated that all of the administration, which was online was carried out by AK Solar including the BER assessment. My dealings with AK Solar are way above expectations. I’d highly recommend them. They agreed to deal with a warranty problem on a system installed by someone else. AK Solar’s care and attention has been outstanding. They handled the warranty claim on my behalf, Clare kept me informed during the process, the lads arrived when they said they would, even confirming when they were leaving their previous job and their expected arrival time, and they did the job well; knowledgeable, tidy and friendly. They also continued to monitor my system to see that it is functioning correctly.

Avoid like the plague. Cowboys!

Amazing experience from start to finish. We got a number of quotes from various companies and decided to go with AK Solar as their knowledge and customer care was second to none. No question was too big, small or silly. The lads arrived on time on day of installation, got stuck in and everything sorted in a matter of hours. Very clean and tidy, app explained really well. Cant recommend this company high enough

I deliberately held off writing this review until a couple of years had passed (our installation was in May 2023) so I could include any issues that might arise and report on how they were handled. But, in all honesty, there haven’t been any. Not one. The system has just sat there, happily doing its job for the past three summers, reducing our summer electricity bill to practically zero. We’ve had storms - strong enough to snap tree branches - but the panels have been absolutely fine.

After contacting a number of different installers, AK Solar made the decision easy. From competitive pricing to their availability to answer all my questions, and then providing a convenient installation date, the entire experience was excellent. The admin and installation teams were friendly, helpful and knowledgable, and the post-installation service was top class. They even finalized the grant application process. I would strongly recommend AK Solar.

Avoid like the plague.
3 years later and we're still finding errors, and still having admin with ESB that AK Solar caused.

They lied about the inverter model they installed. They lied about the battery brand they installed.
They never filed the correct paperwork with ESB (or if they did, the dog ate their homework...)

They avoid answering calls or emails, leaving us stranded with an illegal installation.

Update: In their reply to this review AK Solar are now denying everything. No even slightly curious about the equipment sitting in my roof which doesn't match the model numbers they stated in the (signed!) SEAI Grant Inspection Report, nor does it match the different model they put in the (signed!) Declaration of Works, nor does it match what they filled in on the NC6 and gave to SEAI. And yes, you refuse to answer my calls which is why I'm left with no option but to write a review here. Keep doubling down on your lies. I'll keep updating this review with the truth.
