On reflection
I initially posted a review expressing a measure of disappointment at an order having been placed with a view to possibly being satisfied later in the day, within the limits specified. That disappointment was caused by having had deals in the stock settled immediately just a minute or two later via another broker.
However a phone call from Mike Cafferty earlier this evening went a long way to explaining the issues involved, not least that the order placed was for a multiple of the normal market size in a stock that had been the subject of minimal activity today. A detailed explanation of the workings of market makers added to my understanding of the issues involved. In short, I believe that I was was too hasty in expressing my initial view. Thank you Mike for your very detailed explanation.

They suck at placing deals.
They suck at placing deals.
Rather than place a deal or honour the price at the time you request the deal to be made, you're waiting 48 hours or more before they get around to doing it. By which time, the price has risen giving you no benefit at all to judging an investment at the right time. Whether they're doing this on purpose to give themselves the best advantage within a 48/36 hour window once you're already locked in I can't be certain. I'm skeptical.
