NEVER rent from Acarent/Sigma car rentals Corfu

I rented a car from Acarent near Corfu Airport, who also trade as Sigma Car rentals. They are not based at the airport nor were they even there to meet us with a car. Worse than that Sigma/Acarent are a bunch of cheating scammers and tried to nick 550 euros from me for a spurious damage claim as we went to drop it off. They know you are in a hurry to catch a flight so you have no time to argue

SCAM!!! DEATH THREATS. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I trusted Aca Rent as an international brand, but after my terrible experience with their Tirana Airport branch and the way the head office in Italy handled my complaint, I must strongly warn others: do not rent with this company.

At Tirana airport we were scammed into paying €300 for a fake insurance, forced to drive with an expired car insurance (I have photos as proof), and threatened with violence when we returned the car. The employee even tore up our signed contract and shouted “I will kill you.” Luckily we recorded the discussion, so we still have evidence.

But what is even more shocking is the response from Aca Rent Italy. Instead of investigating, they simply forwarded me the version of the very same people who scammed and threatened us, ignoring completely the most serious parts of my complaint: the expired insurance, the missing Green Card, the fake extra charges, the intimidation and the death threats. This shows that the parent company is not willing to take responsibility for the behavior of its franchisees, leaving customers completely unprotected.

Renting with Aca Rent means taking a huge risk, not only because of the abusive practices of their branches, but also because the head office refuses to stand behind the customer. If you care about your safety and your rights, avoid Aca Rent everywhere.

ACARENT SCAM

They scammed us from Corfu Airport branch and looking at other reviews , many others have had the same happen. They refused to help although i think it is one of their franchises but assume still have some responsibilities from their Italy HQ. DO NOT USE - FIRST TIME SCAMMED FOR FAKE DAMAGE EVER WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. BLACKMAILED TO SIGN FOR DAMAGE OTHERWISE WOULD HOLD 1200 EURO DEPOSIT. THEY HAVE EVEN DISPUTED THE REVIEW BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THEY HAVE VERY POOR REVIEWS WHETHER ITS A FRANCHISE OR NOT

Helpful staff in Chania

We hired a car for a good price from Chania acarent. After a few days we had a concern about small issues with the car (it was still driving and was still safe) So we contacted the office in Chania and the lady was very helpful and went as far as providing us with a new car with a quick and convenient turn around.

Don't. Just don't.

Don't. Just don't. If you find this company is your car rental company after booking through booking sites, cancel and re-book. They operate a shady business under various names (including Premium Rental), often fail to pick up at airport, will not refund customer taxi costs, won't reply to emails, are constantly hiring new, different counter-staff because even their own employees (who are not family) can't stick with them.
Just find someone, anyone else. And beware! They have more than one business name operating from the same office counter. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

To add an edit: despite already previously emailing them three times before this review, TrustPilot advised 'more information' was required so that they could respond. Naturally, I supplied the required information..for the FOURTH time. Did they respond? No! Is anyone surprised? No! Are they to be avoided at all costs because of their fraudulent practices? Yes!

Absolute horrible experience at acarent…

Absolute horrible experience at acarent in catania. We waited 1.20 hours with 2! people in front of us in line. When it was our turn the guy at the desk checked one paper and then went away, we had to go to another desk. Very chaotic and weird. Do not recommend!!!

CATANIA AIRPORT AGECY

I am referring to the agency at Catania airport. Upon collection they offer you additional insurance which only leaves theft uncovered. they tell you that with this coverage they add a second driver and give you a higher level car. Be careful because upon delivery the check for defects already present on the car is very hasty and superficial. Upon return, they complain about damage to the windshield (which was probably already there) and which you didn't have time to detect upon collection (they are naturally not covered by insurance). They will charge you €500. I recommend doing a deep check upon collection and if car is dirty and cannot be seen clearly, do not sign the form. Book with the insurance first and not the one offered at the time of delivery. also had to top up the oil during the trip because the service error appeared. Very bad experience

Unacceptable

When I arrived at the desk, the only receptionist left, saying he'd be back in 10 minutes! Once returned he then tried to charge for an extra driver, (which was included in my voucher) and then over age drivers, which we were not! All the time he was messaging on his mobile. Eventually he printed off the paperwork, only to find all the extra charges were still on it! We took possession after about an hour - in the dark!

Save yourself money and time

Save yourself money and time. I rented here and they forced me to buy insurance at 35 Euros a day because 45 lines in to the conditions I don't have an international license. The insurance doesn't even cover windscreens and tires. My car even has the maintenance light on, I could hear them in Italian talking about changing my car when I was mad about being charged insurance when even they had a hard time finding the International license clause. They are not based at the airport so I couldn't walk away and get another car. Do yourself a favor and walk on by to another shop.

Be aware that you may receive a bill…

Be aware that you may receive a bill for additional charge for no reason after you return your car. It just happened to me in Milano-Linate. After I returned the car I rented I received an Euro 480+ bill and debit to my credit card on file for damage to windshield, damage to bumper and cleaning fee (Euro 50), without further explanation or demonstration of the “supposed problems”. But there was no problem whatsoever to the car, so this is a scam!!! I got a car that was not washed, I deliver it back in the same condition I received and now this!!! You should not trust this company!!!

CACARENT THIEVES!

THIEVES!! DO NOT USE THIS CORRUPT COMPANY! They deserve 0 stars. We booked a car at the CATANIA AIRPORT office and upon arrival were informed by a woman at the desk that we must pay a €10 fee for cleaning or return the car in the “immaculate condition it is in now”. She told us “it’s a new car”. Never have we ever had to pay a cleaning fee before and I believe all other rental companies include this within the rental charge. When we arrived at the car, it had 22,000 km on the clock (so not “new” at all), had several scratches, some dents, the wheels were damaged and it was covered in drops of dried water and also had a splat of bird poo, so also not “immaculate” at all! The woman was rude when we told her we shouldn’t have been charged the €10 as the car was not clean and she said “well, I can’t tell the birds not to poo”. Inside, the car was quite dirty and stank of stale cigarette smoke. Two days later we needed to use the windscreen wipers, but guess what? No water!! So we then had to go to a petrol station to top it up ourselves.
Upon returning the car, the same woman with a bad attitude inspected the car and charged us €122 for a very light, practically invisible hairline scratch which was likely already there upon collection!
I will NEVER USE ACARENT (cacare nt) AGAIN. The staff are rude and they will charge you fees that no other rental company does. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! This company will be reported to Discover Cars, the broker who uses them.

Too bad I can't give them 0 Stars

Too bad I can't give them 0 Stars.
You get what you pay for, and in the case of this extremely affordable deal, the service was disappointingly subpar. The shuttle drivers exhibited reckless driving, and upon arriving at the ACARENT office (at 12:15 pm), I found it closed. After a call and 15-minute wait, they finally arrived without offering an apology.
Then they handed me a brand new Fiat Panda, but guess what? The front indicator bulb was blown, and it didn't even have a USB charger – something you'd expect as a basic feature. If you're considering using this service, just be sure to factor in extra time for picking up and returning the car because efficiency and professionalism don't seem to be their strong points. All in all, definitely won't be dealing with them again.

Avoid

On arrival you have to wait for a shuttle to pick you up.We didn't wait for long, but the actual rental place was a good 20 minutes driving. The lady that "welcome"us was taking a personal phone call that she carried on with for the first 5 minutes as if we weren't even there. The car was new and they charge you €15 if you return it dirty (interiors), but we were informed beforehand. Before leaving I asked her if the office would be manned at the time I was going to return the car (6PM),and she reassured me the office was always open at that time. When we arrived the office was not only closed, but no one was ansewring our calls/email/WhatsApp messages. Due to the office being very far away from the airport we had to wait for the shuttle to take us back. Only thanks to the shuttle people that understood our frustration we made on time to the airport. No further communication or apology was given to us on the following days.Worst car rental and customer service- Avoid

Don't trust them

I always rent from the big hire companies. I regret not using one of them in Puglia because they were much more expensive. In the end, I paid more with Acarent, directed by Vipcars. Paid more than double the quote, they took nearly all my €500 deposit, charging €250 for a tiny scratch, didn't even notice, maybe caused by rain or small stones from the road.

Awful awful awful scammers

Awful awful awful scammers. They cancelled our booking in Puglia as our flight was delayed by 1 hour and there were no more cars left. We were unable to tell them our flight was delayed before take off. We ended up having to spend over 1100 euro's from another car hire company when it should have cost £260. They were extremely unhelpful and another couple were told their booking had been cancelled when they were 3. minutes late.
It states clearly that even if you are past the 59 minute grace period (which in itself is utterly ridiculous at an airport) they give you another car if yours has gone. How can a car go within 3 minutes? It would take longer than that to process it.
They blamed VIP cars for cancelling the booking. VIP cars blamed Acarent. Total scammers.
