Shipping cost scam
Was ordering two items for $108.00.
Decided to apply for Acaedmy Sports CC because it said free shipping and $15 savings ($12.99 shipping). Was approved, and $15 taken off and $26 shipping fee added! Asked lady on chat. She said items not eligible for free shipping. Shocker, and OK. But then why does the shipping cost double? No answer.

This place customer service sucks
This place customer service sucks! Twice not once but twice!
First experience go there to buy 2 kayaks 2 paddles the dolly for the kayaks and some other fishing gear.
First associate Brandon asked me if I was sure I wanted two I asked if they weren’t a good brand and he shrugged and said he didn’t know. I set my other purchases by the kayaks we wanted and let him know we would like to have this upfront since they are getting the kayaks and it will be a minute. Nope 15 minutes later and still had to carry my own stuff which won’t fit in a cart.
Then I go to load my purchases and thank GOD AUSTIN ALEXANDER! Hassina struggling to load our purchases on top of the Pathfinder. No he help us load it, but he helped us with a couple of tiedowns that we also bought after our first purchase. We go a couple days later because guess what I forgot to get my purchases to the front register they’re trying to charge me double what was marked as Sat there and take a picture so she rang it up. It was on. I asked for manager and they still couldn’t help me other than Alexander the crew here sucks customer service with the amount of money that was spent at this place in the last week alone by me, I will not be returning to the store
Failure in Management
Alexandria, LA location: I visited yesterday to buy some shoes and was appalled by the employees in the shoe department. Apart from their non-professional, yellow hair and sloppy appearance, they were both talking out loud about how their schedule sucks and other negative comments about their employment situation. Who hires these people? Where are the managers? Is Academy that hard up to where they are hiring people basically off the street? This is a failure in leadership. This is the beginning of the end for this location. Needless to say, I left without buying anything.

I ordered three identical pair of 505 Levi's. They shipped me three different jeans, one 505 and two 514s of different colors. Pathetic.
Very poor policy and customer service
First time customer setting up my account with credit card, then decided to use PayPal and in between all this I forgot to add my 10% off coupon. Immediately after hitting the button, I tried to contact them through their Chat which got me nowhere, so I called. I waited on hold 12 minutes and the lady told me I can't apply the coupon because my order is being filled. Wow, within 10 minutes you're filling my order! I doubt it. I asked if they could just credit my account or give me a gift card, after all I spent $270 there. Nope, not willing to help at all! Last time I will ever order from them.
Worst customer service and return…
Worst customer service and return policy ever. Bought shoes for my son right before Christmas at $69.99. They were too big so I said no big deal, we will trade them. We took them back and found the same shoe just one size smaller. When I get to the register to exchange, they tell me that I owe $42. FOR WHAT? The same exact shoes I just paid full price for. Cashier says it’s because when you return, you get the lowest price in last 3 months. I’m not trying to return anything. I’m trying to exchange for exact same thing, just different size. Also at no point have I ever seen a pair of Niki in Academy sports for $27, so that was just BS. Also huge problem when the cashier is just down right rude. Managements attitude wasn’t much better but at least wasn’t degrading. It could have been a simple exchange. We shop here often but we will not be shopping here ever again!
Terrible customer service.
Visited local store today to purchase ammo. At the check out I used a gift card towards the amount. Card was refused as not in there system even though I had the card in my hand with a card number and PIN number on the back. Local mgr. said there was nothing he could do but gave me the number for customer service and said they would make it good. I got a very nice lady in customer service when I called and I got the same answer. Nothing I can do since this card is not in the system. Unbelievable customer service. No accountability!!!!!!!!
Lousy service for the military
Academy Sports only gives military discount part-time Sportsman's Warehouse Cabela's Bass Pro Shop Smoky Mountain guns give discounts 100% of the time I'll never do business at Academy Sports And if you're in the military I'd advise you not to either look up the rating they're poor at best and their customer service is lousy.

Poor customer service. Never received item ordered. Called customer support. I was told it would be investigated and that I would receive a call the next day. 4 days later still no call.
No communication, Employees who don't care
Ordered online 12/9/23, a Moultrie Graviity Deer feeder and 40 lb bag Deer Protein Pellets for pickup. Called 12/11/23 to ensure order ready and was told it was ready. Had to go into the order online to change pickup person as hubby was going to pick up. Hubby gets there and was told "you received Email that the Moultrie Feeder order was cancelled". NO, we did not receive any Email stating feeder is cancelled. Bag of
feed was ready, but the pickup person for the order was NOT changed and there was some questioning about that. Order had been paid for with newly applied for and received Academy credit card. I have no receipt, no knowledge of what was charged, no knowledge of this "credit card"and what charges have been applied to it. All I have is a 40 lb bag of deer pellets :(
I ordered a NEW item
I ordered a NEW item. I received a display item that had finger prints all over it and a huge red display sticker on the box. This was a gift which is now a joke. I contacted customer support and the solution was to go to a post office and return the item out of pocket and hope to order a new one without it being a display. Or go to the local store and see if they have it in stock which they did not. Needless to say I got a measly 10% discount with no confirmation. This was a total scam.

Total fraud!! I ordered a fleece jacket for my son for Christmas, I ordered it on November 22 & today is December 8th and they still haven’t even sent me a tracking number, and it just says pending. total fraud do not order from them. They said guaranteed delivery was November 30th!!
Sent Used Shoes
Ordered a pair of running shoes for a Christmas present. I was sent used shoes. Soles were dirty, box was bashed in, obviously I received someone else's return. Just gross. Shop elsewhere!
Shipping is faster without Packing material
I have read all the bad reviews - but I have to say besides not packing the stuff really good - they have been able to fill my orders for the last three times with the fastest delivery of anyone I have ordered from in the past month. And that makes me so giddy with happiness - I just have to give them five stars because as you all know - fast shipping is not something that happens all that often -- even though they suck the money out of your bank account in microseconds - and then usually sit on their backsides, waiting a week before they even get a label created = so that is why I am giving 5 stars - perhaps I just got lucky - for a change - so the rest of you are on your own when you order.. Good luck and maybe all your products ordered will arrive fast. Maybe even packed with a little more attention to detail.
“Hide out of stock” Toggle NEVER works!
Searching couple specific brands so decided to toggle “hide out of stock” items in order to make the list more manageable (& they’re OUT OF STOCK anyway!). Even after sorting various ways, out of stock items are STILL being shown. INCLUDES OUT OF STOCK — ONLINE, SET +NEARBY STORES, ALL OF THE SIZES + ALL OF THE COLORS. ❌
Also tried on the website, same thing. Even more inconvenient than the list of thousands of items that came up—that also include items by OTHER brands than your selection BUT apparently Academy thinks you won’t notice (?)—is that you decide you want to purchase so click that item only to discover it’s out of stock when the item comes up. INCLUDES OUT OF STOCK — ONLINE, IN STORE, ALL OF THE SIZES (even the seldom ordered XXXS or XXXXL are out of stock & some items only have 1 size listed AT ALL-that’s out of stock) and yep, ALL OF THE COLORS. No all of the items didn’t JUST miraculously sell out when I began the search, as that would be HUNDREDS of items over 10 + searches within the Academy app AND main website, over a course of several weeks. So no. **The conclusion—too little time for this nonsense when alternate stores do not have this same issue.**
