They insist on a passport copy
Abc-Airsea was used to do Customs clearance for a package, sent to me in the EU from the US. They demanded I email them a scan of my passport, just for them to submit the paperwork so I could pay the taxes.
This is a gross violation of GDPR. They refused to provide an encrypted means to do so, they refused to explain who would have access and for what legal reason, they refused to explain what safeguards were taken to prevent unauthorized access and when my data would be deleted.
This came from the highest level - after their Czech branch took that position, I called the CEO of the European branch of the company in Vienna, whom I talked to on the phone. He refused to even let me speak. Kept talking right over my words. As soon as I said something, he would also speak in a hostile manner, so that neither he could hear what I said, nor I what he said.
My shipment will now be sent back. Their communication in English is incomprehensible and they stopped responding, after I suggested/asked about alternative clearance solutions.
