Complaint Regarding Unauthorized Credit Card Charge Attempt

Dear 4 Seasons Car rental South Africa Customer Service,

I am writing to express my concern and dissatisfaction regarding an attempted charge on my credit card by your company, more than four months after my rental period ended.

On Date 28th of february I returned the car at your branch. The rental was concluded, and all associated charges were settled promptly. To my surprise, I recently noticed an attempted charge on my credit card from your company, dated 17th of july 2024. Attempted Charge of 21,98€, was more than four months after the rental was completed.

I am deeply concerned about this unauthorized charge attempt. I can confirm that there were no additional services or damages that would justify any further charges, and I have not been contacted by your company regarding any outstanding issues since the rental was completed.

This situation has caused me significant inconvenience and stress. I respectfully request an immediate explanation for this attempted charge, as well as assurance that my credit card information will be handled securely and ethically moving forward. Additionally, I request confirmation that no further attempts will be made to charge my card without prior authorization.

I hope that this matter can be resolved promptly and that steps will be taken to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future to other customers.

Please respond to this complaint at your earliest convenience.

In the meantime we received an answer from Europcar about the amount charged on your credit card recently.

Europcar admin department did send an invoice via e-mail, maybe it went into your spam box.

A speeding ticket has been received during your rental period and an admin fee has been charged, according the rental terms and conditions.

I will e-mail the copy of the speeding ticket and Europcar's invoice.

Our sincerely apologies about this. We have to investigate this matter with Europcar South Africa, the rental company were you rented the car from.

We at 4 Seasons Car Rental will never deduct any amounts without authorization from the credit card holder. We always send a written reason like an invoice for any payment done, so the credit card holder will be informed about any related charges.

I will investigate this matter with the accounts department of Europcar, Johannesburg and send you further details as soon as possible.

i was satisfied about your service during my stay.
I was less satisfied with the handling of a number of fines. I was charged an administration fee of R400 per fine, I think it's a lot, especially when it comes to 3 fines.

We used 4 seasons several times and we had been happy with the services. Last 2 times we had problems when the car was picked up at our residence. Damage to a wheel rim was claimed on both occasions but I did not had to worry because it was covered by the insurance. I strongly doubted that the damage on both occasions were done during our rental period.

toelichting; beide keren werd direct naar een velg gewezen, zonder de hele auto na te lopen en te controleren. Beide keren werd ik verzocht voor de schade te tekenen. Zou een verzekeringszaak zijn!

Was verbaasd en heb niet getekend omdat ik zeker weet de krassen aan de velg niet te hebben veroorzaakt. Deze extra verzekeringsinkomsten lijken onderdeel van het verdienmodel.

Beste heer van der Zouw. Dank voor uw bericht. Ik begrijp niet helemaal wat u precies bedoelt met de schade aan de velgen en dat het een "part of Business model" zou zijn?

Wat is naar u mening het verdien model? Zou u dat ons kunnen uitleggen zodat we een misverstand in de toekomst kunnen uitsluiten.

Dank wederom voor uw toelichting. Normaal gesproken wordt tijdens het ophalen van de huurauto, door de verhuurmaatschappij en de huurder, de auto geheel gecontroleerd op de eventuele aanwezige schade. Dit wordt allemaal genoteerd op een speciaal schadeformulier die u na controle moet ondertekenen. Als u de huurauto weer gaat inleveren moet u dit schadeformulier weer laten zien en wordt de eventuele nieuwe schade vermeld om het schade formulier en moet u dit weer ondertekenen.

Dit is een standaard procedure, ongeacht wat voor verzekering dekking er is afgesloten.

Als u de all-inclusive dekking bij ons heeft afgesloten , dan zijn schade aan velgen, banden en ruit gedekt. Mocht de standaard dekking zijn afgesloten, dan is er een eigen risico bedrag van toepassing als er nieuwe schade wordt geconstateerd wat niet op het schadeformulier is vermeld.
