Extremely disappointing service with the sole aim of increasing the bill
I’ve been a client of this clinic for four years. However, my last visit made me finally find a new vet because I got fed up with the clinic’s seeming sole goal of increasing my bill instead of prioritising my dog’s health.
The prices in this clinic have always been noticeably higher, sometimes two or three times more than other clinics. At times, I was pushed services which were rather redundant, and there was always a strong notion that vets were trying to make me come back with the dog as often as possible instead of providing all the needed care at a single appointment. Yet I overlooked this because of the convenience and my loyalty to the clinic: online appointments, low waiting times, English-speaking vets. For a while, that felt worth paying more.
My last appointment changed that. I brought my dog in for a booster vaccination. Before the appointment, I informed the vet that my dog is anxious and won’t allow a physical examination, and that the calming medication the vet herself had prescribed last time had no effect. The vet acknowledged this and agreed to proceed without an examination.
The entire appointment took a few minutes at most. When I received the bill (more than 90 euros), 42 euros (which is 1.8 times the base rate) was charged as an examination fee. When I questioned this, since no examination had taken place, I was told that “the doctor examined the dog visually.” I find it outrageous to be billed at the 1.8 rate for a clinical examination that did not occur at all. When I reached out for further explanation, the clinic manager doubled down on the righteousness of the bill. While it may be lawful to bill for something called a “visual examination”, I maintain that nothing during the appointment constituted any sort of examination, especially one that warrants paying almost DOUBLE THE REGULAR RATE. This experience has cemented my lasting impression that the personnel in this clinic prioritise increasing the bill over animal needs and the treatment they actually require.
I won’t be coming back and I discourage anyone from using the services of this chain.
