Customer Service Frustration

At one time, Ally had an excellent customer service department. Unfortunately, that time has passed. It is apparent that Ally now outsources their customer service representatives. In trying to solve a problem, the representatives become confused if I vary off the script that they follow. I have moved several accounts away from Ally and will probably move other CDs when their renewal dates occur. Outsourcing customer service does not save organizations money if their customers become frustrated and move their business elsewhere.

Buckets suck, Service unhelpful, Outages

I've been an Ally customer for a while and initially loved the idea of spending "buckets" - allocate money for rent, groceries, etc. and stay organized without a spreadsheet. In practice it's the opposite. Even when a bucket holds the exact amount of a specific bill, Ally still pulls from other buckets or unbucketed funds instead of using the one I designated, and there's no way to lock a bucket to only its intended charge. I end up manually rebalancing constantly, which defeats the point.

Today (September 1) made it worse: I couldn't log in online or in the app, and a phone rep couldn't even find my account, with no timeline given - on the exact day my mortgage and child support payments are due. My deposits are FDIC insured, so the money itself is safe, but an online-only bank is only as good as its uptime, and today it failed at the one job it has. I'm moving my accounts elsewhere.

Avoid Ally for auto loans

Avoid Ally for auto loans. They have issues with their online banking and processing payments. They are not helpful on resolutions and just put you on hold multiple times and transfer you to other people that put you on hold multiple times to just end up where you started, with absolutely nothing solved. Not a good banking company and definitely not trustworthy with handling your money.

MY PAYOUT AMOUNT WAS 2,290 AFTER MY INSURANCE MADE THEIR PAYMENT, ALLY RECIEVED A PAYMENT FROM MY GAP CLAIM FOR AROUND 2,700, ALLY INFORMED MYSELF THAT I'D HAVE TO WAIT 60 DAYS TO RECIEVE MY OVERPAYMENT ON A VEHICLE THAT'S ALL READY BEEN CLEARED AND COMPLETED 100 PERCENT PATOFF. Shady Hard Pull On Credit Bureaus

I was told by a Ford dealership that the dealership would do a soft pull on my credit to see what my score was in case I co-signed for my girlfriend. Not only did Ford do a hard pull, this Ally Financial did a hard pull as well! I didn't attempt to apply for any auto loan, and I don't know how this bank got involved. Just out of the blue they did a hard pull on my credit. I tried to dispute it through the credit bureaus, but it was denied. I even went researching who this Ally Financial was, and their own website says they soft-pull for any pre-approvals (which I didn't even do in the first place!). I would never trust this bank!

Horrible customer service

Horrible customer service. I spent several hours trying to open a savings account. When it didn't work, I called and spoke with a foreign person who was hard to understand and unable to offer any assistance. I finally found an email address for Ally Bank and sent an email request for help. No one ever replied. I ran from Ally bank. The next day, I opened an account with American Express that paid the same dividend and took 30 minutes to set up. My advice? STAY AWAY FROM ALLY BANK.
8/26/2026 - Update: 1 MONTH LATER I received a reply from them saying they did nothing wrong and indicating that they had no interest in customer service.

Extremely frustrating experience with…

Extremely frustrating experience with Ally Auto. I’ve repeatedly tried to pay extra on my car loan, but instead of applying the additional money as intended, Ally keeps reallocating it toward future payments. I even scheduled an additional $500 payment to be made immediately, and they pushed it out to the following month.

It should not be this difficult to PAY EXTRA on a loan. The payment system is confusing, and getting this resolved has been incredibly frustrating. This has been an unbelievable awful experience and every-time I contact them about it, they give me different answers. Wild! Don’t recommend Ally Auto.

Dishonest Company with Dishonest Customer Service Reps

This is for the auto leasing department - customers are treated as fools and idiots. Customer Service reps will not hesitate to place the caller on hold for over 25 minutes, and finally, when they realize the customer is not giving up, the supervisor answers and has the audacity to tell the customer to drink water and calm down, WHEN THEIR OWN rep was the one who created the situation, not the customer. It appears Ally Auto Finance sees customers as idiots with low IQs and EQs, and a sick customer on that. Customers don't call to waste time, or just because they feel like calling. Contacting customer service of any business has become the worst nightmare of every customer. Returned the leased car with 8,500 fewer miles, and Ally is still so cheap as to charge me the disposition fee. In that case, Ally needs to refund the customer for the 8,500 miles. Since the customer has paid for it but did not use it. I believe that is fair.

Dishonest and disreputable. Avoid!

Do not finance your auto loan through this untrustworthy, fraudulent company. When I refinanced my loan through another bank (at half the interest rate), Ally did everything in their power to refuse the payment and never alerted me. Then they started calling me to say that my payment was late. Clearly, they were obfuscating the matter to avoid my departure. Fortunately, my reputable bank was able to sort out the mess that Ally created. I seriously urge everyone to avoid Ally Financial like the plague. It teeters on the edge of criminal activity.

I really wish I would've looked at this…

I really wish I would've looked at this page before I opened an account. Can't say I'm surprised at their one star rating, honestly if there was a lower rating or no stars I would've went with that. Day two of my account being open and I spent over two hrs on the phone with this Busch league finance fly by night gang of gypsies, no offense to any gypsies. Day two and they've suspended my zelle already after one attempt at sending money. Guess it's unreasonable to send money to a friend so he can send it back some other way so I can access it, ya know, since basic ass ally doesn't even have virtual cards. So I linked my account directly to a few apps, Uber worked once and now these ass clowns won't allow any transaction to fly. Did I mention they suspended my access to my account three times by this second day? Awful awful stupid company please please please stay away from these idiots. I wish I would've stayed with frost...and they're horrible

Ally customer since 2012

I've been using Ally since 2012 and have never had a single issue. The times I've had my debit card number taken and used, I was able to clear up the problem quickly and painlessly and get a replacement card right away. I plan to stick with them unless something changes.

2 months ago had just a horrible…

2 months ago had just a horrible experience with Ally just because I lost my title too my car so l can sell it. Last time I dealt with them was seven years ago and had another lender to refinance. Mailed me the title and years later still didn’t release the lien. Went to DMV and they gave me their fax number. Ally said would fax them saying they released the lien. Nobody at Ally knows how to fax and tried 3 friggin times. DMV never got it. A week went by and asked if they mail it to me and try the fax again. Carvana offered expired. Letter would take 7 business days. Got the letter a week later and took care of it.Not surprising that the fax didn’t go through. Resubmitted to sell to Carvana and offered me 400$ less and made me more angry. They should pay me 400$ . Whoever is responsible for this should be fired!

I would give zero if I could

I would give zero if I could.

I submitted a wire and the system mucked it up and added the wrong info in places. I called the rep to stop explaining the situation the transaction was still in review and he put in a request but they still sent it through even the account number had a name and not a number. DUCKING HELL

One of the worst customer service experiences I have had with a financial institution.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Ally’s customer service regarding the payoff of my Tesla lease.

After speaking with Ally and receiving the official payoff amount, I mailed the **full payoff amount by cashier’s check through USPS Certified Mail**. I have **USPS Certified Mail tracking and proof showing that the mail was delivered**, yet the representative I spoke with, **Subastian, was still refusing to acknowledge or accept that the payment had been received**.

This is extremely frustrating. When a customer has documented proof from USPS showing delivery of a large cashier’s check, the response should not simply be to disregard that evidence or leave the customer uncertain about where their money is.

Instead of receiving a clear confirmation that my payment had been received and instructions regarding the title-release process, I was given vague responses and told that I needed to call because it was a “sensitive matter.”

My experience with Subastian was particularly disappointing because I did not receive clear answers, reassurance, or what I consider appropriate assistance despite having **certified-mail proof of delivery available**.

When a customer sends a large cashier’s check to completely pay off a vehicle, Ally should be able to clearly confirm:

* Whether the payment has been received and posted
* Why USPS shows delivery if Ally claims it has not been received
* Whether the account is fully paid off
* Whether any additional amount or documentation is required
* The exact status of the title transfer
* What the customer should expect next

Instead, I have been left uncomfortable and uncertain about both my payment and my vehicle title.

My biggest complaint is the **lack of clear communication, accountability, and customer care**, especially when documented proof of delivery exists.

For a major financial institution handling auto loans and leases, I expected much better. Ally seriously needs to improve how it handles payoff payments, investigates certified-mail delivery issues, and communicates with customers.

Aci 3rd party is only communication…

Aci 3rd party is only communication anyone can access. Impossible to reach Ally direct by phone. 3rd party is only option to making payments or attempting to receive short term flexibility for unforseen financial issues to be resolved. Aci 3rd party offers solutions over phone you are satisfied with to correct issues; however, these adjustments do not hold water and never are implemented as agreed.
You are then hit with penalty fees on top of regular payment, totally unexpected. Can't reach Ally direct and Aci will not provide a correct phone number to reach Ally direct.
Refinancing is only option to end frustration.

I’ve read quite a few reviews regarding Ally. Initially I was almost in the class of the other consumers. I had an issue which in my opinion was very important. It seemed as though I was being treated unfairly.

However, once I got into the hands of the right person all of that changed. Not only did they correct my situation, they completed it expeditiously.

I was so surprised to see how they took care of me once management got involved.

Kudos to the representative that took care of my urgent concerns!

Thank you

very bad experience with Ally auto loan…

very bad experience with Ally auto loan finance. 1. Lack of Financial Clarity: The system is vague and does not provide a year-to-date (YTD) breakdown for principal and interest payments.
2. Payment Allocation Restrictions: When auto-pay is enabled, the system fails to recognize extra payments intended for the principal balance. Instead, I am forced to make a separate, manual transaction after the auto-pay payment has processed.

These limitations make managing my loan difficult and frustrating.

Stay away from Ally

Got a loan for a vehicle using dealer financing (worst mistake). Dealer chose Ally. Ally's customer service is made up of overseas individuals that read off a script and give wrong information. Unlike regular banks, Ally does not provide payoff statements via online so I had to call. I called and was told it would be sent through secure messaging on the app in 1 hr. Over an hr passed and no message. So now I call a second time only to be told that was wrong info and that it actually takes 2 business days to receive. WHAT! So being that I called on Thursday, I now have to wait until the following Monday to receive a piece of paper that I could have gotten online with any other real reputable bank in seconds. I'll be so glad when I can transfer this loan to another bank and be done with Ally. They are the worst!
