Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 28 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently mentioned that the hot drink tastes extremely weak and watery, completely losing the rich flavor it once offered to loyal buyers over many long decades. People pointed out that the actual amount of loose tea inside each individual teabag has noticeably decreased over the past year. Some reviewers were not happy with the strange chemical or plastic smell affecting fresh boxes right upon opening the package. Customers also noticed that teabags frequently split during brewing, leaving annoying dust and an unpleasant thick scum residue in the mug.

As a change from my normal supermarket…

As a change from my normal supermarket tea bags which are fine ,I decide to buy a 240 pack(what on earth was I thinking!) of tetleys.
These must be the worst tea bags I've ever tasted.
Like others thought poss the water, but no.
They taste of some awful chemical that I really don't think I should be drinking. My mouth feels sore afterwards. What on earth are they putting in to the bags??

Be warned

Be warned. This company has been bought out and the tea has completely changed and not for the better. The new perfumed flavour started slipping through around last Christmas, and I have finally stopped playing lotto with what I’m going to get after binning box upon box of ghastly undrinkable tea. A spectacular fall from grace from a product I have bought for 40+ years, but sadly never again

Tea bags have become so weak that they are a waste of time, moving to another brand.
They take an age to brew, or lots of colour floods out quickly and then the bags exhausted.
Bags left damp for an hour seem better, but generally they have gotten so bad, but any alternative.

We've always liked Tettley Tea bags but noticed over the past year or so that the bags split leaving us drinking loose tea.
Please sort out the issues that people have complained about as Tettly should be one of the best brands.

Bought some extra strong tetley…

Bought some extra strong tetley teabags. Absolutely rubbish. Extra weak more like.
Even after brewing for 5to6 minutes the tea is weak with no flavour and tasteless.
Asda,s cheapest teabags taste better than this rubbish.
Tetley should be ashemed.
Threw the whole box in the bin.

Fred must be spinning in his grave!!!

OMG, the taste of Tetley is completely different to what it used to tasted like!
It is now bland, harsh & bitter & it doesn't even smell the same - today it tastes like Tesco's CHEAPEST tea bags?!?
I grew up on Tetley & loved it back in the 70's, 80's & 90's - then I quit drinking tea & coffee completely in 1999--- fast forward to now: (June 2026)..just had my first cuppa in all that time - I was so looking forward to the old familiar flavour that made it stand out from the rest in the UK.
I used to make a bangin' cuppa - all my mates would agree.
But the taste & flavour of it nowadays is awful - I've just thrown out 199 Tetley teabags..I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy - it is vile!!!
I asked AI about who now owns Tetley & it immediately started to defend the company- so I told AI straight, to stop defending the company & it immediately agreed with me & apologised for sounding like a corporate sales rep..(that surprised me)..it then told me the truth. Tetley was bought out by the global Indian industrialist company known as Tata (they own half the worlds food companies & have their claws in so many different things inc steel) Now all of their tea comes from the cheapest possible global tea auctions* And it isn't chopped or dried like it used to be either?? Now it's chopped down so fine that there's no point letting the teabag stew a while, cuz it only makes it worse (I don't think that's possible)..at least I hope not.
So I asked AI which tea today is closest to the proper tea taste, that I can remember & only two brands stood out - one of them is in Yorkshire & the other sounds like the ships that first brought tea to the UK in the 1800's..I can't say more than that or Trustpilots algorithm won't allow me to publish this truthful review.
YUUUUCK!
Shame on you Tata, shame on you!
And it's one of the most expensive??
Fred, must be spinning in his grave!

I had the great misfortune of having to endure several cups of this monstrosity of a tea. Why anyone would choose to drink let alone spend good money on it I have no idea. If all you have ever known is dishwasher tea then you really need to stop assaulting your taste buds and opt for an everyday brew by teapigs. You will thank yourself and so will your taste buds

Tetley is finished

Tetley is finished. Used to be Number One, but now not even worth rating to be honest. A spectacular fall from grace. And the current advert with the old codger asking his wife “Are you still here?” is absolutely disgraceful.

LESS TEA PER BAG.

LESS TEA PER BAG.

They have at some point in the last year or so reduced the amount of tea per teabag. My experience is only with Tetley original one cup (440 pack).

Simply, the newer teabags I have bought taste weak and feel light. Thankfully I had some old teabags in the back of the cupboard and was able to compare. The new bags are weighing just over 2g with the old ones weighing just over 3g.

Old pack = 1320g
New pack = 880g

STILL THE SAME PRICE.

Half the weight but same price & no acknowledgment of it….

I have recently (within the past 2 weeks) bought a bag of 440 one cup teabags.
Initially when I took one out it felt light & thin, I poured them all out and they all felt & looked the same and tasted EXTREMELY weak like literally milky water.
I still had some left from a bag of 440 I had from 2025 that I forgot about, found them & immediately felt the difference.
I weighed multiple from both bags and the new bag per teabag was 1-1.5g less.
That’s 440g less per 440 bag of tea bags.
I paid the same amount as I did in 2025 and the previous few years.

Literal robbery and I won’t ever be buying Tetley teabags again.
