Super fast shipping

I've been ordering from Kaizen for over 15 years, and I'm still amazed at how fast they ship. I ordered late Weds evening, and the pot (very well packaged) had arrived by Friday morning. And that's not a one off - they're faster than amzon and ebay. Thanks Graham and team!

Have recently purchased some bonsai tools

Have recently purchased some bonsai tools and fertiliser from Kaizen bonsai. All items were dispatched, sent and received within 3 days of ordering. I had some concerns over the root scissors as they appeared to be a little loose. I phoned up Kaizen and got to speak with Grahame who talked me through why they should be loose and how to care for and adjust if neccasery.
On the whole very impressed with both products and service received. Will use them again in the future.

I've bought a couple of yamadori over…

I've bought a couple of yamadori over the past year. Both were received well packaged and in A1 condition. Both trees exceeded my expectations, and take pride of place in my collection. I have no quarms about being a returning customer.

Happy with pumice and bark.

I bought some pumice and bark from Kaizen recently. Both seem good quality, good size chunks of pumice and not a lot of dust, and the bark seems fresh. All items were sent very quickly.

I have never bought trees from Kaizen so can’t vouch for their quality.

Infested and fairly poor.

I bought a bundle of “discounted” small bonsai which included 3 indoor trees. This was about 3 weeks ago.

The bonsai were very well packed, they were glued in place to stop them sliding around during transit, in all the packing was very good.

I inspected the bonsai as soon as I managed to get them free from the packaging. I quickly noticed that one had mealy bugs. I searched thoroughly and found 4 tucked in crevices, I then treated it with a mixture of neem oil and soapy water. Over the next couple of days I found a further 2 and I treated it again. Obliviously the plants are still in quarantine. This particular plant is suffering at the moment, it has very similar growing conditions to other plants of the same species. I’m not sure what is causing the leaf loss, I’m hoping its just because its getting used to its new growing conditions. I'm keeping my eye open for more mealy’s.
A second one has the worst infestation of spring tails I have ever seen on a plant. I initially noticed it when I watered it on the first evening. The soil began to move in a glistening moving mass. They covered the pot as they tried to escape the water. I dunked the whole pot in water and there must have been tens of thousands of the critters floating on the surface. I don’t know the cause of this yet, I suspect some rotting organic matter in the pot, possibly roots. I have to keep doing this periodically to remove the worst of them, as they are reproducing quickly. The plant seems okay but hasn’t really put out any new growth yet.
The third plant seemed in okay condition. However, I re-potted it as it was in a plastic pot. The root structure was very minimal, so I’m not sure what this plant was before, it seemed like a pretty poor cutting perhaps, with some very odd bends in the trunk below the soil surface, which makes me think its just been hidden to make the sale.

All plants show evidence of being top watered by very hard water. The leaves had quite severe deposits of calcium carbonate on them. I painstakingly washed each leaf with de-ionised water.

Also, all trees had an incredibly bad smell to them on arrival. I'm mostly sure that it was a solid fertiliser that was applied, so I also had to remove that as it was smelling out the room.

These were clearance items, so I wasn't expecting perfect trees, They certainly need work. I would, though, expect the trees to have been kept in slightly better condition than what I got. One tree perhaps wont make it, which is a real shame, but I’ll continue to hope.
