When the app to check in/pay your ticket doesn't work, YOU get fined!!!

I received a DKK 750 fine from the Copenhagen Metro despite making every effort to pay for my journey.

I am a regular public transport user and have never travelled without a valid ticket or check-in before. On the day in question, the DSB app -which I have been using exclusively for the past years to travel with all types of public transports in Denmark, including the metro - experienced technical issues. I spent a long time trying to check in and later buy a ticket through the DSB app, but neither function worked. I continued my journey to the airport while repeatedly trying to resolve the problem on my phone.

When a ticket Metro inspector checked my ticket, I explained the situation and showed that I had been attempting to use the DSB app, but I was still issued a fine. My appeal was subsequently rejected.

I fully understand the need for ticket inspections, but it is disappointing that no consideration was given to the fact that this was caused by a technical failure rather than an attempt to avoid paying. A more reasonable and customer-friendly approach would have been appreciated.

I just gave one star because I had to…

I just gave one star because I had to give one to write this review. This company is the worst, their information for transiting on the metro is useless. If you are not from Denmark or a crossborder worker BE CAREFUL!!!!! DON'T RELY ON THEIR STAFF AS THEY HAVE GIVEN ME WRONG INFORMATION SEVERAL TIMES!!!! They are unfortunately not well trained and the company don't take accountability for it. Meanwhile the information on the website is often difficult to navigate and might mislead you to faulty tickets. As many public services in Denmark, the staff is often not helpful and arrogant. And honestly, if you can avoid these services it will save you a lot of stress. I belive this is an effective service to drive away people from the country, and they are succeeding. Looking forward to never use it again.

If I could give you less than 1 star, I would! There is an issue with metro in regular basis, it takes forever for them to fix it, often you get stuck in random stops, or inside of metro. I am regularly late for work because some issue with metro, it’s overpriced and service is terrible! If you can, use a bike, for sure it will be more pleasant experience than using a metro!

Worst interview process experienced so far

I was applying for an interview, and they called me twice to it. They cancelled on the very day of the interview saying that they already had another candidate, and gave no reasons more than I had requested reschedules of the call because I had compromises in my current job. If they wanted to hire a danish employee from the start they should have said so and not have called a non danish just to seem more inclusive. An incredible waste of time.

A Disgusting Tourist Trap: Arrogant Staff and Zero Empathy

Copenhagen Metro is the most hostile public transport system I have ever encountered. As a visitor, I purchased a ticket in good faith, but due to the confusing zone and timing system, I miscalculated the expiry by a short window.

The ticket inspectors were incredibly rude and aggressive. Instead of offering assistance or understanding to a tourist who clearly had a physical ticket, they treated me like a criminal and showed no respect. It was a humiliating experience.

When I contacted Customer Service, it only got worse. Their response was a cold, robotic 'copy-paste' email. They completely ignored my explanation and the fact that I was a first-time visitor. They don't care about honesty or human error; they only care about their 750 DKK fine.

This system is a pure tourist trap. They make the rules confusing and then use arrogant staff to extort money from visitors. It has completely ruined my impression of Copenhagen. If you’re visiting, STAY AWAY from the Metro—rent a bike or walk. Don’t give your money to a company that treats its passengers with such contempt.

Shocking treatment of me and my…

Shocking treatment of me and my disabled friend by the ticket inspector.
We were apprehended by one of their inspectors just after midnight for activating the Rejsekort app on the train after we had boarded. I had just checked in (on the stationary train) and my friend was in the process of doing so.
My friend has Cerebral Palsy with poor mobility and partial blindness and foreign metro systems present significant challenges. I was struggling with him and some shopping I had done for breakfast and was relieved to see a train waiting. I thought it would be ok to find my disabled friend a seat and then activate the app. I was surprised when one of their inspectors zoomed in on us to demand to see the ticket before we had even left the station. I was even more surprised when he showed no understanding of the situation we were in and issued 750 DKK fines. A simple explanation of how to use the app would have been sufficient. We are not fare evaders and in fact we have been paying more than we should as we didn’t appreciate that there is a disability available. This episode has soured our trip to Denmark and I'll never return.
The ticket inspectors are ruthless. They seek out tourists as they know they struggle to understand their system.
The system is discriminatory to people with disabilities as the strict enforcement of the rules, takes no account of the difficulties people with disabilities face in high traffic areas. I am disgusted by the behaviour of the ticket inspector who carried on with enthusiasm, even when it was obvious my friend with a disability was struggling.
The appeals system is a joke and the reply didn't take on board anything we said. The reply got both the boarding time and even the station we boarded at wrong. The only way you can take it further is by paying an additional amount and they make it quite clear, that your chances of succeeding are remote.

save your money and bike instead

Can’t believe that we pay this much for the metro and there’s no damn ventilation!! In summer, we are literally fried like chicken in here!!
Not to mention that sometimes it’s late or out of order but doesn’t really update on the Rejseplanen app!

poor app

even though its not said anywhere do not deactivate the location service when you use the metro phone ticket. the app will stop working and you will get finned. I would expect this to be mentioned the moment you activate the app. Poor designing of the app. when I mentioned that to them they told me to read the terms and conditions. They are ridiculous!

Immoral

I have used the Metro hundreds of times and never cheated. The other day, I jumped on the train with my app open and as I sat on the seat to press pay, the ticket inspector pounced. I received a 750 kroner fine for not paying before I boarded. I wrote a complaint, which of course didn't help. This feels like a set-up, taking 750kr out of people's pockets for nothing. The ticket inspectors should be ashamed of themselves for doing such a low-life, immoral and evil job. And whoever made the rules should also be ashamed. It should be made illegal. Let's say that we have to accept these ridiculous rules; well, a slap on the wrist with a fine of 200kr would be more than enough as a deterrent. But, oh no, that's not enough for the greedy Metro. People who use the Metro are mostly workers or young people with little money or tourists on a budget. Same old story isn't it?
I just read that the Metro is owned by the City of Copenhagen (50%), the Danish Government (41.7%), and the City of Frederiksberg (8.3%).
So the government approve of treating people like this? Is there no one left with morals anymore?
The Metro is accusing thousands of people of cheating, and I bet you a good 90% just make an innocent mistake. I've been using my friend's car since the incident - polluting the environment (great eh?) until I get over this nasty, accusatorial, inhuman treatment.

They look forward to make you pay fees

They look forward to make you pay fees for mistakes you make because of lack of knowledge. No matters if you are unaware, no matters if the negligence was done just in one stop. So before taking the metro, try to find any of the parasites with the M in the clothes and ask them if you have any questions, because any public transportation is different.

The worst metro I’ve ever been on

The worst metro I’ve ever been on, I travel all over the world and use these systems and this experience was the worst I’ve ever experienced. Copenhagen is a lovely place but receiving a fine after I asked to show me where the ticket machine was and to show me how to use it has made me think never visit again

Constantly broken during rush hour

Constantly broken during rush hour. Never add extra metros, when it's a holiday or event. They force you to buy 2 zones even if you travel only in 1. Worst functioning metro I've ever used. But hey they made it look nice. Greedy losers.

Paying passengers treated awfully

I purchased my monthly ticket. My usual journey includes zones 1 and 2. I selected the start and ending point. Why do I get as an option zones 1 and 3?? I did not realise it in that moment, I bought it and eventually I got a fine from a Metro guy that obviously couldn't care less about the reason why I missed a zone. I sent a complaint to the Metro service but the answer was so not customised, like the productof artificial intelligence. I paid the fine. Awful experience really.
A service? No, a customer trap, where rude people who "do their jobs " think it's okay to treat customers so poorly. Unfortunately customers service in Dk is often below the threshold of decency. I learned now at my own expenses that Metroen is not an exception but rather a mirror of the whole thing.

The fines in the Danish metro system…

The fines in the Danish metro system are absolutely unreasonable, especially considering how the system is designed to trick passengers. There are no turnstiles or barriers at the entrance, making it easy to accidentally enter without realizing you need a ticket immediately.

It feels like the system is intentionally set up to profit from honest mistakes, penalizing even those who simply forgot to buy a ticket and had no intention of fare evasion. This approach seems unfair and deceptive, targeting people who made genuine errors rather than those trying to cheat the system.

I have never seen a metro system or fines like this in any other country.
